Winchester and Browning both release a new 6.8mm round.Yippy! Like they did last year, and the year before that and the year before that. What is the point of making new niche calibers that cost 40 bucks a box(20) when we can’t even find common calibers. You have hundreds of thousands if not a million or so of new customers in the gun world that can even practice with using common calibers.

Mosin Rant

The Mosin's reputation as a “garbage rifle” almost entirely comes from them being poorly kept and maintained by firearms owners.

People really grab these 70+ year-old rifles out from the Bass Pro pile, hose off the cosmoline, run through a bunch of corrosive ammo without cleaning, and act like that's enough maintenance for an antique, worn gun because "lol it's cheap Russian shit, it's made to be janky and tough."

No one would treat a Springfield, Kar98, Enfield, etc like that because unlike the Moins these former workhorse rifles carry a hefty collector’s tag. If you actually do the maintenance and really clean, polish, and oil the damn things instead of blaming the sticky bolts and peeling wood on design alone you'd realize the Mosin is a much better running gun than you thought. Yeah it's still an awkward action and not the fastest, and the gun itself is not super accurate, but neither are the majority of surplus bolt actions. 

The only reason why Finnish Mosins and other specialty runs of the gun have better reputations (aside from the “Muh White Death!!” Finnboos) is because they are by and large well maintained and treated as the collectors items they are. I guarantee you as the Mosin becomes rarer and people stop finding crates of them in Babushka’s shed you’re going to see people treating them very differently. It happened to the Enfield, it’ll happen to the Mosin.

Bear with this little spiel that seems to go off topic in five seconds and jump from one idea to another related idea but I feel it will help people better view the topic.

People kill people. It is just the method one goes about it that makes guns so hated. A gun can be used to end hundreds of lives in minutes but so can bombs, fires, gas attacks, and more. Different animals species developed ways to hunt and defend themselves, and this is true for humans. Our opposable thumbs and hand physiology allows us to manipulate our environment to our liking. Which includes the creation of tools. But, what is a tool? A tool is object that is/can be used for the express purpose of making a task easier or possible. The first tool mankind used was most likely either a rock or branch that was carved/chipped, and we have come a long way since then. Think of an object that you use often in your life. Now think of a logical way to deny it not being a tool. Humans crafted tools for the sake of making life easier or because they wanted to see what an idea would do once conceptualized. That however doesn't mean all tools were crafted with pure intentions or to be later used for impure intentions. The problem does not lie within the tool but within the person because a tool can not complete a function on it's own without human involvement. The human is the one who uses a tool. And, they decide whether or not to carry out the negative action. It is the person who pulls the trigger and it is the person to blame for the lives they reap with their chosen tool. A tool designed to kill is called a weapon and for good reason. Weapons are a subset within the tool category with the origin of only being created to bring harm to another organism. But, we owe it to weapons especially for our species survival in harder more challenging times. Nowadays they are not necessarily needed to help defend from nonhuman threats. The most negatively viewed and easily accessible weapon in today's world is the gun, which is defined as weapon consisting of a metal tube that expels a bullet, shell, missile, or other projectile. People hate them because they are prevalent and can be extremely deadly in the hands of person with no restraint. But, they are not the only option for harming someone. There are rocks, hammers, cars, gasoline, chemicals, hands, long pieces of wood, and so many more things that could be used to bring harm to an organism. Yet not all objects are treated equally as being possibly dangerous because they are not viewed in the same light. The greatest and worst trait of humanity is: if a person has the drive to set a task and work towards completing it, they can do it; even more so if they let nothing hold them back. The sad truth at the end of the day is that if a person wants to end a life and they can/want do it, they'll do it and with any tool they can use as a weapon to achieve their goal.

Gun Control

I THINK THE GUN CONTROL THING IS WAY OUT OF HAND NOW. Honestly I feel like the way they are approaching it is just a huge waste of time and effort we could use else where in our government. I believe there are so many different ways we could do this gun control thing and get the best of both sides. At the end of the day all we want is our guns and safety. Everything else is just extra problems that have been put on top. I think my idea would be the smart start to controlling this gun “problem” we are having. I mean we could just get rid of guns completely and innocent people would still die from guns so that obviously isn’t a solution and the other end we can’t just let Joe down the street have some RPG and minigun just cause he wants it. I personally don’t own a gun, but I am all for ownership and defending ourselves if need be. 

As a start I wanna say these couple of things should be implemented to the system of ownership for guns. 

1. Psychological Evals/Questionnaire- I feel like people who want to own a gun should go through this because owning something that could take life just as easy as it could defend it shouldn’t be taken lightly. Many of the shootings we see in the media usually mention someone being “mental unstable” or “showing shows of distress”. We could prevent that by having a psychological evaluation or some sort of questionnaire screening when buying a weapon. Not only will this possibly prevent anyone that isn’t suited to own a weapon from ever having a legal weapon, but it would increase demand for psychologists in turn this would create a new job for the field. I mean worst case we just add a little more wait time till you can get a weapon.

2. Inspector of Safety- When we get a firearm we should have someone come to your household and inspect where and how you plan on storing the weapon. I mean it seems mundane, but think of how people literally buy at weapon and don’t have a secure place they have it stored and thus make in home accidents happen. Not only should this happen when you initially buy the weapon, but it should be a yearly inspection that someone knows you are properly storing the weapon. Once again this would create a job and adds another layer or safety.

3.Proper Education-This seems like common sense too, but there should be a certification we should receive that shows we have practiced with the weapon we plan to own and have the experience to maintain and use it without trouble. I mean I wouldn’t want to sell a pistol to a person who just happens to have a license to own and says, “Yeah I just want that one.”  I have personally heard this while at establishments that sell firearms and the owners always kicked that person out. 

Now I understand these aren’t going to be perfect in preventing all deaths sadly, but I feel it would reduce that number drastically. Now I haven’t addressed the bullet button or what weapons “should” get banned because they are considered “assault” weapons, but isn’t what I was getting to. I simply think we should implement some more well grounded regulations and not some half measure that literally does nothing (cough cough).

How is it such a commonplace thing now to read a headline about yet another shooting in America and no one, including myself, is surprised by it? We've become numb to weekly shootings. What the hell is wrong with our country? My thoughts and prayers are with the newest victims in Louisiana. There seems to be no end in sight with this epidemic.

I don't get it. All these angry soccer moms campaigning for gun control, saying "kinder surprise eggs are banned in America to protect our kids, but anyone can buy a gun" First of all, kinder surprise eggs aren't banned. I've seen them in stores. it's not that hard to get one. Secondly, I don't know what state you're living in, but from what I've heard, your 6-year-old son can't just pick out a Mossberg 500 from Walmart and take it home. People are acting like it's easier for a child to get something like an AR-15 or a Kalashnikov than it is for them to get a chocolate egg. I've gone to get myself a gun and i'm nearly ready to get it, after 5 months of paperwork, background checks and waiting for it all to check out. Compare that to the 3 minutes it took me to walk into a grocery store, find a kinder surprise, go to the checkout and buy it and I think you've got something wrong with your argument
