conventional weapons fucks so hard and I will never stop saying so
imma keep it a buck w u i will NEVER understand the hate for gun. like i saw a few people talking about how like they think its a weak promotion of like. the freedom that having a gun gives you. no tf it isnt. come on now it is very very obviously anti-war machine and makes the point that propaganda funnels young people into it without giving them a realistic view of what its really like. one of the best tracks off conventional weapons hands down
Idk if it's just me, but Gun. is SO anti-military to me, and this is coming from me, a military child, who is also against the military (it fucked my dad up, yk?)
Just look at these lyrics:
No, I will not elaborate.
Okay, I was going to, but I forgot what I was going to say so I'll edit this when I remember.
I will defend Gun. (the mcr song) to the end i cant believe it has so many haters. The perspective is incredible it immediately starts by establishing how much this kid SHOULD NOT be given a gun, which I think made me laugh out loud the first time I heard it. But seriously it perfectly draws the image of this barely-out-of-high-school guy who's gonna get ground up in the machinery of war ("can I bleed enough to fill up what the engine takes") (that line also calls up oil imagery ooo) because he's bought into the idea that he's valuable to the US military and can't wait to get his big boy gun and uniform. He's bragging about it. He has no idea what he's getting himself into ("they'll put me on vacation underneath the sun" COME ON). Like, I knew kids like this! If you were in American high school and had recruiters set up in the cafeteria for days on end, you're familiar with this kind of propaganda. And Gerard's vocal perfomance really sells it, he is DESPARATE for this gun.
If it just doesn't hit you musically or whatever, fine, but I like it. It's darkly funny but also really sad - "they're teaching me to kill, who's teaching me to love?" Is corny (although, point made) but "If I'm old enough to die for your mistakes, then let's go!" sung with 18-year-old enthusiasm is a punch to the gut
And while we're at it "the government wants your gun" is not about gun control it's saying "the government wants you holding your gun for them overseas" which is really clear from the context lol
my chemical romance - gun. [fan music video]
there's just something so hilarious for gachiakuta, that I absolutely love. of.
Riyo: Gun.
