The Fight for the Tokens: Juliet vs Gunnar vs Alexandria
As she went towards the water tower, she heard the sound of footsteps behind her, or in front of her. She didn’t know. Up ahead was a small tree, not the best at concealing her, but she gave it a go and climbed it anyway until she was a few feet in the air and too high for the voice to see. Seconds later she saw a bruised, battered but heavily ladened with weapons Gunnar walk past her. Of all people to kill - she didn’t expect it to be Gunnar. But then again, he was wearing the bright orange which stuck out like a sore thumb in the darkness so he obviously has shown his true colours to the Gamemakers.
Alex didn’t have time to feel slightly betrayed by her classmates reducing to the violence but more focused on finding the coin from a higher level. She looked down at the ground and squinted for a little while, and then, almost as if it’d just appeared for her, she spotted the glint of the coin on the floor but as she went to climb down from the tower she heard his voice again.
“Ah ha!” Gunnar exclaimed as he picked up the coin that was meant to be Alex’s. Alex froze where she was sitting. She had two real choices. She could try and find a new coin, even though the coin Gunnar just picked up could be the last one or kill him for it. And despite her reluctance to do so, the latter seemed like the more sensible answer. Gunnar looked around before heading back in the direction he came in, which was directly in Alex’s path. She had a few seconds to decided whether she was actually going to go through with it and at the last second made a hasty decision which she felt like she was going to regret. Alex jumped down from the tree and hid behind it as Gunnar turned around.
“Who’s there?!” she heard Gunnar say. She didn’t say anything, of course, but instead watched him as he warily looked around, not really being able to see anything. Alex walked out from behind the tree and slowly crept up behind Gunnar. Alex was strong, agile, fast and trained in the art of defending herself, and with the prospect of dying before her - it was kill or be killed in her mind. She jumped on top of the boy, and wrapped the chain of the nunchuku round his neck and pulled him to the ground. As Gunnar fell to the ground, she tightened the grasp of the nunchuku that was wrapped around his neck and watched as he spluttered for her air but never give up. Alex sat on his back and pressed her whole entire body weight on the boy, just like her father had taught her, but the glint of metal in Gunnar’s hand alarmed her for a second so she rolled off of him and narrowly avoided getting her neck cut with a throwing star.
“So you have some of those as well?” Alex dug her hand into her pocket pulling three of her own out and threw two at the boy, one narrowly missed but cut his cheek, and the other hit him but in the shoulder. Gunnar fell back again but with a pickaxe in his hand, he started to swing it at Alex and as she got closer to him, the weapon dug into her leg, just as she punched the boy in the throat winding him. Blood pours out of a vertical slit in her thigh and she screams again. Alex, overwrought and in pain, attempts to stop the bleeding by holding it with her free hand. Blood starts to flow between the cracks of her fingers, trickling down to the ground. Alex refers to her training and high kicks Gunnar, landing her heel to the tip of his nose, causing blood to gush out. She kicks again, this time hitting his stomach, and then another kick to his groin. Gunnar holds his groin with his left hand as he howls in pain.
Gunnars eyes seem to be having trouble focusing on his target, the hits to his head must be messing with his motor functions, he can’t afford another to take another blow like that. Although the pain in her leg was horrific, she still managed to kick the boy’s chest and knock him to the ground again. She pressed down his chest and stood on it with her full body and heard the sound of bones crushing before bringing his head up in her hands and snapping it. The sound of his cannon echoed through the arena.
Suddenly, not far from her, a fire had been started. She could smell the burning flesh. Having no idea that it was Icarus, she went to pick up Gunnar’s things when she heard another person approach, and it was the girl, Juliet. She remembered seeing Juliet in class. She was the pretty, popular girl with the boyfriend that adored her. But not here, here she was like everyone else and with the Victor’s crown within reach Alex wasn’t prepared to let it go so easily. Alex advanced on the girl with one thing on her mind, and that was to make sure her life was ended. Icarus was right, in this arena she was going to have to kill people to survive. For all she knew Juliet could follow her, and when she’s not expecting it, kill her for her coin. Alex couldn’t afford to let that happen.
Juliet stood her ground, which surprised Alex, she almost expected her to cower away. She clutched onto what she assumed to be some sort of sharp weapon which she’d never seen before and a war club. Alex held the wrench in her hand and charged towards Juliet swinging the wrench wilding towards the girls head. Juliet knocked it out of her hand and dug the kama into Alex’s side before pushing her to the ground. Blending heavily, Alex clutched onto her stomach but didn’t give up. She crawled towards Juliet and took her throwing stars out of her pocket and sliced the girls Achilles’ tendon. Juliet fell to the ground in agony and Alex took this as her chance to finish her off. She struggled for power as Juliet scratched at Alex’s face but Alex kept on punching and kneeing the girl and felt her knuckles break under the punches but kept going until Juliet crumpled underneath her.
Alex stood up and grabbed onto Juliet’s hair, now matted with a mixture of her and Alex’s blood and smashed it against the metal holding the water tower up. She only stopped when she realised that there wasn’t really anything left to smash against the tower. She let go of Juliet’s mangled body and took a step back to look at what she had just done. Her cannon must have fired during her vicious assault but her body laid dead and lifeless. By now there were no coins left to be had... Alex would have to fight for another one later. Alex wiped her blood-soaked hands on her prison suit - staining them red and picked up hers, Juliet’s and Gunnar’s belongings before heading to the lighthouse where she promised Icarus she would be... not aware that he would never come.
A parachute floats down to Gunnar once he's settled amongst the trees and as he tries to catch his breath. Inside the parachute is 5 bandages, rubbing alcohol, 2 morphling tablets, and antibiotic cream. There is also a note:
More and more blood! My boy, you keep impressing me! Here's something to take care of your wounds. - Persephone
Gunnar vs. Cardallens:
The trio stopped at the foot of the trees when they spotted Gunnar. He lay on the sand using his bag as a pillow, a pickaxe lay across his chest. Elijah slowly making his way over to them, with Amley and Carr following close behind. As they approached they were as quiet as possible, Elijah’s voice startling everyone when they were within 10 feet of Gunnar.
As Gunnar lies on the beach, listening the howling wind, and the waves crashing against the floor, A soft but stern voice interrupts his peace, “Good evening Gunnar” Elijah says with his katana at the ready. Gunnars eyes shoot open as he realizes, not one, but three tributes are standing above him.
“I suppose you aren’t here to build sand castles?” Gunnar says as he quickly brings his pickaxe and pack closer to him. As he slowly stands up, with his head cocked, he turns to Cardell, “I’m disappointed in you Cardell..”
“I didn’t want t—” Cardell begins to say as Elijah jabs him in the side.
“It doesn’t matter Gunnar, It would have had to happen sooner or later,” Amely speaks up.
“Alright.” Gunnar says, getting up on his feet. The trio get their weapons ready as they thought he was going for an attack. “Whoa guys, You’ll know when I attack, I’m not that fas—” Before he finishes, Gunnar bashes Cardell in his head with the metal curve of the pickaxe. A soft thud is heard as Cardell falls to the ground, unconscious.
Amley sticks her spear out, aiming at Gunnar’s stomach. He luckily dodges by bringing his pack out in front of him. The spear goes through the pack, ripping right through the thin fabric, spilling all of the contents into the sand. Seeing the two sticks of dynamite, Amley dashes to retrieve it. As she bends down, Gunnar kicks a pile of sand right into her wide brown eyes, causing her to be temporarily blind. Gunnar watches as she frantically, drops her spear and rushes into water to wash out the sand.
Elijah, seeing this opportunity, charges Gunnar with his katana, swiping at his head. Gunnar ducks and gets low to the floor. In a swift, solid, horizontal motion, Gunnar brings the pickaxe to Elijahs knee. The metal spike pierces through his left knee, going out through other side. Elijah then punches Gunnar square in the nose, followed by kicking him in the ribs with his right leg, knocking him over to his back, coughing up blood.
“You son of a bitch!! AHHHHHHHH!!” Elijah saying screaming in pain as he attempts to remove the pickaxe still sticking out of his knee, firmly in place.
After several tugs it finally comes free, followed by a gush of blood. He throws the pickaxe past Gunnar’s head, landing just a few feet in the water. “Come here you little shit. Ya know I use to feel sorry for you whenever people use to pick at you. But now, I understand why.” Elijah limps closer to Gunnar, holding his throbbing knee. As each step he takes, more blood comes pouring out. Gunnar quickly hops back on his feet backing away slowly, inching towards his lost weapon. With the katana in his right hand, Elijah swipes at Gunnar, cutting his right arm, from the shoulder to the elbow. Blood pours out like a fine Capitol wine. Gunnar puts his left arm in the air as a last act of defense. Elijah strikes again, this time cutting Gunnar’s inner forearm. As Elijah brings the katana high up in the air for a final strike down on to Gunnar’s head, Gunnar somehow manages to pummel Elijah, causing him to land in the seawater and his sword to go flying in different direction. Gunnar spots his weapon just a few inches away. He then quickly thrust a couple of fingers in the hole in Elijahs left knee, left by the pickaxe. An outcry of pain and suffering comes from Elijah as he reaches for his knee. Gunnar sits on top, pinning him to the ground, pounding his face.
Meanwhile Amley has finally washed most of the sand out of her eyes. She sees the scuffle between Elijah and Gunnar and decides to help. She rushes over and hops on Gunnars back, covering his eyes with her hands, while biting into his neck. Blood oozes out as she chomps down onto his flesh. Gunnar tries to knock her off as he winces in pain. He thrusts his head upwards, busting her nose wide open. She finally stops biting him to cover her nose but not without pushing the boy off her older brother. Watching this, Elijah reaches into his bag, bringing out his shot put. Anger in his eyes, he rushes towards Gunnar and tackles him to the sand, pinning him underneath his weight. He brings the shot put down on his head. “Don’t hurt” Again. “My sister.” Gunnar lets out a groan, his face practically unrecognizable. Amley looks up and watches her brother smash in the head of a nerd. Just as we think that the battle would be done, Gunnar as a adrenaline trust that pushes him to fight back, hitting Elijah right in the groin.
After stumbling to the ground, Elijah gets back up, this time returning the favor to Gunnar. He wraps his hands tightly around Gunnar’s neck, pressing down onto his windpipe. Gunnar chokes as he struggles for air. He notices something shiny and round next to him. The shot put, it must have fallen out of Elijahs pocket in the struggle. He doesn’t care what it is, he knows it’s heavy and can do severe damage. He stretches his fingers out and manages to get the ball rolling closer to him. After several attempts he can finally wrap his palm around it. Gunnar’s face is blood red, he has seconds until he passes out. With one smooth motion he bashes it against Elijahs temple, causing him to let go of the thunder grip around Gunnar’s neck. Seeing it worked, Gunnar smashes it again repeatedly at the same spot, causing his eyes to roll backwards. Elijah falls over, face first, twitching around in the water. Gunnar rolls him over and ferociously clobbers his cranium with the bloody shot put. Pieces of brain matter begin appearing and the seawater turns a bright red.
A faint cannon booms in the distance.
Amely, who is now hysterical, shouts out, “MY BROTHER, YOU KILLED MY BROTHER!!”
Gunnar faces her, panting heavily to catch his breath. He drops the shot put in the water, and advances towards her.
“Get up!! Come on get up!! We have to kill him! Wake up!! We have to kill Gunnar!!You can’t just leave me here… I can’t do this without you!” She says screaming into Elijahs lifeless body.
Panic strikes, the frazzled brunnette runs back to her pack, with every intention on annihilating Gunnar. She pulls out the her throwing stars, causing Gunnar to stop dead in his tracks, forcing him to go into some kind of self defense mode. He holds his sword up like a baseball bat as she launches a star, cutting through Gunnar’s flesh on his left thigh. Another star comes flying, sticking in his right shoulder. Gunnar roars in pain as he wildly attempts to hit the stars mid air with the sword, but misses. As she readies to toss another throwing star he charges at her, forcing her to drop all but one star. As she falls to the ground she manages to plunge the star, into his side. Out of mass irritation Gunnar immediately slaps her in the face, “Like you said.. It has to happen sooner or later…” He pushes her down to the ground and without even thinking twice he thrusts the katana deep into her stomach, penetrating through the back. She manages to push the throwing star, lodged in Gunnars thigh, deeper into his flesh, he winces in agony. Out of rage he twists the blade of the katana sideways in her body, causing a large pool of blood to form from beneath her as she wails and sobs.
Without hesitation, Gunnar quickly removes the lodged throwing stars from his thigh and shoulder, causing him to hemorrhage a bit. Seeing as if shes had enough he removes the sword from the stomach and scoops her off the ground. A trail of blood makes shape behind them as he walks closer to the water. She slowly begins to nod off, dribbling blood out of her mouth, signalling her demise. Her cannon still hasn’t gone off, he carries her into the water, dumping her body face down. Gunnar places his hand over her head and holds it down firmly. She squirms around as she fights desperately for air. Soon the struggle ends and her body goes limp. Her long brown hair fanned out like a mermaid as her corpse begins to drift out to sea.
The second cannon booms.
As he is walking back to land he sees his pickaxe has already washed back up. He bends down and picks it up, returning it to it’s rightful owner.
Gunnar goes over to her pack, rummaging through it a bit. Liking what she has, he zip’s it up and straps it on to his back. When he reaches over to grab her spear, a hand grabs Gunnar’s wrist. Cardell. Completely disoriented he seem he has woken up out of his coma and grabbed Gunnar’s wrist. He picks him up by the collar and brings his axe close to his head.
“What have you done?!” He shrieks, trying to shake off the drunken like stupor.
“Look. You can kill me, but if you do, you won’t have time to save her.” Gunnar says pointing out to Amely. Cardells head snaps to the water and his eyes widen as he spots her, floating on her stomach, drifting out. At this point Cardell has no clue if anyone is still alive and Gunnar exploits the fact that Cardell will do absolutely anything to save his friends. Cardell drops the collar of his jumpsuit and takes off full sprint into the water.
Gunnar seeing this worked, he rapidly dashes away from the beach.
Sponsor Persephone Quinn has made the decision to sponsor Gunnar Hemlock. May the odds be ever in his favour.
Lura, Gunnar, Blair, Amely, & Levi:
After seeing two other fellow tributes shot dead right in front of him, the Gunnar we once knew was dead. Instead a person, born out of fear, has emerged and he was dangerously desperate to stay alive.
Gunnar wakes up in a cell with a thin jumpsuit on and paper like shoes. He rests his hands through the bars, feeling the cold, unforgiving metal. He spots Arabella next to him, glaring deep into her soul, hears several others are shouting for their allies. Several cannons are already booming and it hasn’t even begun. Gunnar hears the announcement about how the highest PT training scores will be released first. Gunnar smiles as he is forever thankful he received a nine. He hears the metal clink of a cell door opening. Seeing Shamus is released, followed by Cardell and Sereh. All scores above nine. Gunnar spots the pack on his cot and quickly rummages through it as he knows he the next to be released. He finds two sticks of dynamite, a lighter, and a pickaxe followed by several pieces of food and water. Gunnar then removes the pickaxe and holds it firmly in his right hand, just in case what he might encounter. He straps his pack tight to his back and stands directly in front of the door.
It slowly opens and Gunnar darts out like a bat out of hell. He spots Lura and accidently bumps into her knocking them both off their feet. Gunnar looks as if he is thinking about meeting his pickaxe to her brain, but it seems he has changed his mind. He quickly stands up, regaining his balance, and proceeds running towards the exit on the right. He doesn’t look back, just furiously running for his life.

Blair’s eyes popped open and her body flew up. She sat there a moment, letting her eyes adjust to what was around her. She racked through her brain, trying to remember the events leading up to her being here. She was in the arena. There’s a tracker in her arm. Some were already dead. She scrambled to her feet, examining her location. It was some kind of holding cell. She looked down at her clothes, blue prison uniforms. Her thoughts are interrupted by the sound of a cannon boom. She ran to the bars, trying to get a view of what was outside. She was definitely in a prison. More cells ran across from her and she assumed there was someone on either side of her as well.
“Ara!” She called out sharply. There was crying in the distance, so much shouting, people shaking their bars, people calling for their friends and allies.
“Blair!” Someone shouted back, and Blair knew it was Ara. She breathed a sigh of relief. Another cannon went off, and soon, three more.
“Seventeen.” Blair whispered to herself. An announcement rang through the speakers. They would be released in order of Training Scores. Five minutes between each. Blair closed her eyes, trying to remember all the scores. Shamus had a twelve, Cardell and Serah a ten…who else had a nine? Lura. Lura and Gunnar. They would be released at the same time. She had ten minutes to think of a plan. She walked back into her cell, noticing a pack lying on a small cot. She ran to open it, briefly rummaging through it’s contents. She pulled out a shotgun and her eyes widened. Guns had never been in the games before. She was lucky to have one, but that likely meant there were others with them too. For all she knew, everyone could have had one. She stuffed it back in, looking at her other supplies. She grinned as she pulled out a dagger. She must have proved something to the gamemakers, they wanted to see her use this. She put it near the side for easy access and took a tiny sip from the water bottle. She pulled the pack over her shoulders and stood in front of the bars. She had already heard Shamus’ door open, as well as the next set. Where they had gone, she wasn’t sure. Shamus could be waiting outside, killing everyone as they came out. The way their obstacle course meeting went, he would likely go for her, though she hoped that wasn’t the case. She could take a risk and go for Lura, who she had never gotten along with, though she didn’t want to leave Ara behind if it ended badly for her. She decided she would find Ara, and get out as fast as possible. Ara had received a six, which meant it would take her fifteen minutes after Blair got out to be released. Blair hoped they would be able to find each other on the outside. Finally, the door opened. Blair rushed out, not waiting for her fellow inmates to leave their sell.
“Blair!” She heard again. Blair didn’t have time to find which cell Ara was in. There were exits on either side, and she chose the closest one.
“Left!” Was all she screamed, hoping Ara got the message. She ran out the left doors as fast as she could, not daring to look back.

Lura does not waste any time. Once she sees the pack in her cell she opens it and grabs the first thing she feels. With the Waddy in hand she zips up her pack and slips it onto her back.
She grabs onto the bars and watches as the first tribute is released. Shamus…
Five minutes later she spots Cardell and Serah with opened cells. It quickly clicks in her mind that this is not random. Her score is next. As soon as her door is open she jets to the closest exit. When she’s out she meets Serah. It’s an unspoken agreement for them to wait for Juliet to come out.

This was fucking crazy. Amely knew something was wrong when the game maker enter the room. She was petrified when she saw them shooting at Alexander and let’s not say what her state was when she woke up in a cell with a backpack that is everything she got to survive. Well at least she got something. If it was a normal bloodbath she probably would have gone nothing or got killed. Maybe her luck was turning… ahah what a joke.
She manage to relax herself by taking a deep breath and then she find herself looking at Alpha who was in a cell in front of her. Both girl look at eachother with such unspoken words that broke Amely’s heart. They both jump at the first cannon. Then Amely saw a light in Alpha’s eyes that she didn’t like. And what she fear happen. It’s not without screaming and crying that she saw her best friend take her own life in a pool of blood and scream. With her zero she had no chance and Alpha was too logical to know that it was the only way she could choose not to suffer: by killing herself the way she wanted. And even if things didn’t want the best between the two of them since they were in the capitol, even if Alpha became a bitch that didn’t talk to her or comfort her, Amely couldn’t help to cry and scream to see that horrifying scene.
She heard the echo of her brother’s voice that calmed her or at least give her the mental slap she needed to wipe her tear, stop shaking and grab her pack. Let’s stay logical: if Alpha is gone, its just one person less for an Allen to go home. Yes. She needed to calm and go back to her rational self. She took a deep breath. And another. And another.
The first door open and she wonder why hers wasn’t. We she saw Shamus run, she frown. Weird. Then two other open: Cardell and Serah. It took her a few second to understand that they were the second best next to Shamus. So they are releasing the stronger first so they can wait for the weakest at the door and kill them…. Nice. When Cardell run in front of her he looked at her and Amely knew he would wait for Elijah and her as promise. So she try to look where he turn: right. Okay, now she had a plan, she knew where to go.
Lura, Gunnar and Blair were next so she knew she was near her moment. She mentaly slap herself to stop shaking, took a deep breath and a determine look on her face. Clunching at her bag she look at her door open and Levis didn’t have the time to leave the room that Amely already flee to the right and quickly met Cardell. Amley runs out of the building and Carr jumped to his feet, calling out to her. She rushes over jumping in his arms with a smile. He pulls her back hiding them away again. He hushes her, pointing toward the door. They watch more of their classmates emerge from the building. Silently counting, remembering who’s going where, and if he can see the weapons they hold in their hand. They hug and hide as good as they could, holding eachother as they look people passing in front of them.

Levi had never remembered a time in his life when he was so terrified. Even being abducted and brought here wasn’t as bad as watching Peacekeepers gun down his classmates. While the countdown echoed, he stepped forward to the edge of the bars, looking out at Starling in the cell directly across from him. He tried to smile, to encourage her silently that it was okay, but they both knew that this was an utter disaster. He walked back to his cot and picked his bag up, opening it and nearly jumping out of his skin at the clown mask that sat on top. A small vial with a skull and crossbones, some food, and a baseball bat. This was his weapon? It wasn’t the worst. It could pack a punch and let’s face it, who didn’t know how to swing a bat?
He slipped the poison back into his bag and silently watched as tributes were released bit by bit. But when the door to Levi’s own cell opened, he stayed put, waiting for Starling. He shrunk down into the back, gripping the bat tight for the 10 minutes, waiting till she was freed.
Sponsor Persephone Quinn has set her sights on Serah Moretti and Gunnar Hemlock. Which one of these blood thirsty tributes will be able to prove their worth to her and earn her support?
