What I found on my chair office this morning... #loveatfirstsight 😍Someone had these beauties sitting in their basement for xx years... Handmade professional #tabla made in #punjab. . Traditionally derived from the #Jori which means pair✌️. It was used in classical #gurmatsungeet in Northern India by #Sikhs. Known for it's breath-taking strokes and #IntricateRhythm played with the #fingers&hand. In #kirtan the pair symbolize the #RythemOfLife. . History: The jori is said to have come from the time of #GuruArjan (1563-1606) by renowned #Kirtaniyas (Similar to bards: Poets, storytellers & musicians) of the era (Bhai Satta Dum & Bhai Rai Balwand). The Jori was created by splitting the #Pakhawaj a one-barrel #instrument which is from the 6th & 7th century, into 2 pieces of #drums. . Now to make time and find a #TablaTeacher for November/December when it gets rainy here in #BC. Choosing challenges and new experiences #choosatarian #ironmantri #music (at Vancouver, British Columbia)
