absolutely 100% most important rule if you are giving food handouts to wildlife (in my case, the crows) is that you are not the peanut machine that they can yell at to make you spit out food. sometimes you gotta ignore them even if you do have food, and you need to establish this early on in the relationship
#there are two groups of crows that see me and one of them is big and loud and i ignore them a lot because of that#this also helps them understand that people in general are not food machines#and its fine if its hands off feeding that you do consistently ie maintaining bird feeders#but like tossing peanuts out for the crows and they see me do that every time they see me? no i wont build that association thanks#its just asking for trouble#my other most important rule is that if its on the ground do not hand feed anything bigger than a squirrel#and understand that an angry squirrel can still fuck you up#third most important rule is know the body language of the animal you are interacting with#guy drama
