Potion Preparation

When I first joined Shh, I didn't realize what I was getting into. <Merribeth paused here, flipping back over a month ago, reading her journal entries during her first week with The Moonlight Lantern.>
Now, I feel like an important part of the organization. Am I? I don't know for sure. But I will continue to do my best. <Merribeth reaches up, rubbing the angry red raw streak on her neck, already coated in a thick salve.>
We collected the ingredients last night, and I have them sitting here beside me, the vials empty and ready to be filled. I planned on doing all of the work myself, but I think I will see who is willing to help me fill them.
The ingredients themselves are -so- much fun. That statement is sarcastic, because they're really quite dangerous. Hm. I lie. They -are- a bit fun to use, because I have never used them before and doesn't every bit of knowledge help in the long run?
I think the absolute hardest part will be working with the steel, and continuing to keep Dula away from my bedroom as I work. She's already tried to sneak in twice and I've had to make sure that the door is securely shut. Sneaky little thing.
This is just a quick update, and I am sure I will be writing more soon. ~ Merribeth
My first cup of black tea this morning, a little on the minty side, which I love. I am still in Claypool, and I'll probably be here for the rest of the month. I've asked Cercia to bring me some extra clothing and such, however I am not letting her get involved.
Yes, she's worried... But I'd be so much more worried about her if she knew what is going on.
Dula is doing well, she's adjusting.
I'm putting together my potion list. I've contacted some people. This trek will be later in the month.
That's all for now, at least until I have a second cup of coffee - yawn.
luxelen asked: For Merribeth! 8 and 18 !
(Since Luxie asked Merri, I'll answer as Merri. ♥ Most of these I answer OOC, unless they're character specific! Thank you for both q's Luxie! ♥)
8. Describe your favourite texture: Merribeth was asked this as she strolled through a little open market in Claypool, attempting to take her mind off of the issues going on while she waited for a letter. She turned to the man in the stall, he was small and Elonian, smiling as he showed off various fabrics and behind him were all sorts of products.
Merribeth touched a soft silky brocade swatch of fabric, smiling. That pretty much answered his question, and he stooped down and picked up a beautiful brocade pillow from a bottom shelf, olive green in color. Merribeth grinned, her favorite color!
She paid... Probably more gold than she should have, however once she returned to her room in the Claypool Inn, she felt like she had a little part of home with her in the drab place.
18. What was something you used to enjoy, but was ruined for you? What’s the story behind that? Merribeth thought for a moment, while sipping her absinthe as she sat with some girlfriends around a little table. "My ignorance of centaurs." She took another sip of her absinthe. "I knew they were evil, however I'm not exactly a fighter and where I lived in Queensdale, we didn't really deal with them."
"I had heard that mainly the guards, and farmers, protected that area."
Merribeth frowned, something deeply upsetting her. "The older I became, the more I wanted to help, however I mainly stayed in my great-grandparents' home after they passed, so I could continue the upkeep and study."
"Last year, I was traveling and was ambushed by two centaurs while trying to reach someone who needed a few relaxation satchels." Merribeth set down her glass. "I... Wounded one, however the other dragged me back to their camp. That's when I saw the slaves, and... M-My stomach dropped. I was tossed in with one woman, a little younger than me."
"Long story short, we came up with a plan, we escaped and we tried to help others escape as well. She had no real place to go, and was interested in the same subjects as I... as well as Necromancy, which is a different subject for another time and... Now she's my trainee." Merribeth grinned before turning somber again.
"I will never forget how they were treating those people. I understand, centaurs fight for what they think is their land and we fight for what is ours. But this wasn't fighting, and this wasn't arresting or anything of the sort. This was keeping people... in horrible places. I will never forgive them for what they did, and will continue to do what I can to help those still enslaved around Tyria."
"Let's change the subject now, hm?" Merribeth said, smiling to lighten the mood, and reached for a roll to butter.
Holed Up in Claypool
Gods, when I asked for a sign, I didn't mean throwing me into every weird situation that Crescent Moon Company is involved in... However. I know quite a few fellow members now, and they aren't what I expected, in a good way. I think I can help. I think I can be a valuable asset. I was in Claypool making a delivery this evening, I was in bed, Dula was curled up with me. I heard commotion outside and so I decided I would see what was going on. What if someone was being kidnapped? What if someone was hurt?
So, I go down the cliff and see a beautiful stalker fighting someone behind a tree, one person with a dart in their arm and another with an arrow in her ass. There were elementals... My boots were scorched, and I am lucky that I wasn't seriously injured. Not that I am NOT in pain, I am already hurting.
One man named Sid had a leather hood on... Which was on fire. I took that hood, shoved a salve in his hand and told him to take care of himself while I checked on a woman named Tanith.
There was a woman and... I use that word because I've no idea what else I should call her. I called her non-lovely hostess during our "chat". I won't even get into the rest, I don't even know if it's safe to do so. What I do know is that something is seriously wrong with Tanith and Sid. They each have a mark on them, dark in color and something is very... off.
I contacted Count Nightenveil, as I plan on helping both of them as best as I can, but this is something I have never seen. When I entered my room here, Dula hissed and dived under the bed, so I assume she could sense the energy or... a smell? from non-lovely hostess.
Time for a shower.
What's Done is Done
Merribeth sunk into her favorite green chair in her little... shitty... living room. She curled up, her journal and quill in her hands. She sighed. She had that feeling in the pit of your stomach, that feeling like you're doing something immoral, whether you are or aren't. It's still there.
What's done is done. I had my... Interview? I don't even know what I had.
I was accepted... I am being sent some reading matieral about Necromancy. I feel like visting grandfather and grandmother's graves and apologizing. "Never, ever, work with the dark arts." That's what they told me, and I never have and now... I will be. I will preserver.
I have a two week trial in The Crescent Moon Company. I can walk away (...I think. I was told so, not that I am sure that I believe that) if I want after that trial. We'll see where the Gods lead me, especially Grenth.
I feel... a little relived that I'll finally be learning about something so connected with Him. I am actually surprised I've gone for 25 years without learning about them.
To be fair, I don't know why grandfather and grandmother told me to stay away from Necromancy. I asked, and they never answered. I was told not to ask about Necromancy, not to talk about Necromancy, and never ever to learn about Necromancy.
Maybe something happened with my grandparents, or parents, that they didn't want to tell me about. There are no death records.
I am thinking way too much about this. It's almost time for bed. Dula is licking me, I think she can tell that I am stressed and I think she is my familiar.
If I do do this, I will be able to afford a new, better home for both of us. I am NOT telling my trainee, because I do not want to worry her or get her mixed into something that I myself am unsure of. Right. It's time for tea.
Such an interesting evening... I feel so clouded by confusion. Maybe writing down what happened will help? I can only hope. I was contacted by a woman who was suffering from pain and needed a healing salve. Well, some of the best salves require herbs that I can't acquire on my own. Grow nightshade in Fort Salma? PLEASE. I have no interest in getting kicked from my home and possibly arrested.
So, I contacted a company... The Crescent Moon Company. They definitely came through, were discreet and very professional. I received my herbs and started working on a salve. I met with the buyer this evening (she was very kind, and because this was her first salve, I didn't charge her. I could have used the gold.) I obviously told her that the salve was topical only. We started talking about herbs, and what I do. I told her that outside of spending time with my trainee, I am very solitary, and our conversation somehow ended up about living in Fort Salma and how much I would like to leave. I do love Fort Salma, because I can help so many wounded people who come - or are dragged - in. I can also give and sell my wares to those in need of them, etc. I feel guilty... But I said what I said, including that I don't have the gold to live somewhere else. Long story short... I may have a job in The Crescent Moon Company! Hence my confusion. Is this really a company I even want to be involved in? DO I even WANT to be involved in a company? She said that they're open-minded towards Priestesses, no matter which God(s) they follow. That's definitely a plus. Plus, this is a good chance to not only acquire herbs and other items but also a chance to work larger batch of salves, ointments and the like. WHAT am I doing? First, that... lovely little adventure with mystery girl and her damn exploding... I don't even know what. Now this. Grenth help me. It's time for bed, thankfully. I hope I can sleep.
