The Dust is Settling
I’m home. I have a nice little place in Divinity’s Reach, Salma District. There’s a very small area for herbs, but I will work with what I have. For... Some of them, I am sure I can get away with planting them in pots and keeping them near the door. How many herbologists live in Divinity’s Reach, anyway? ...Maybe I should just keep them indoors. I don’t know... Ugh. Anyway. I celebrated my twenty-sixth birthday last week! I made myself a small cake, and enjoyed sitting back and doing some reading - fictional reading for once!
I’m excited that Tyria is growing cold once again. I wonder when we will start seeing snow? I wonder if Divinity’s Reach will once again decorate for Wintersday? I hope so. I will be, and probably earlier than most! I already spotted a small fir tree that I may buy next time I am out.
Mm. Now it’s time for a cup of matcha tea and a bit of reading, before I go to bed. Dula is already waiting for me! She does so well with moving, and has already accepted this new place as her home. Cercia is also here more often than she is at her own place, and I am hoping that she will move in. But I don’t want to scare her away! I’ll move slow, and maybe my Wintersday wish of having her living her with us will be granted.
Goodnight, dear journal.

When I first joined Shh, I didn't realize what I was getting into. <Merribeth paused here, flipping back over a month ago, reading her journal entries during her first week with The Moonlight Lantern.>
Now, I feel like an important part of the organization. Am I? I don't know for sure. But I will continue to do my best. <Merribeth reaches up, rubbing the angry red raw streak on her neck, already coated in a thick salve.>
We collected the ingredients last night, and I have them sitting here beside me, the vials empty and ready to be filled. I planned on doing all of the work myself, but I think I will see who is willing to help me fill them.
The ingredients themselves are -so- much fun. That statement is sarcastic, because they're really quite dangerous. Hm. I lie. They -are- a bit fun to use, because I have never used them before and doesn't every bit of knowledge help in the long run?
I think the absolute hardest part will be working with the steel, and continuing to keep Dula away from my bedroom as I work. She's already tried to sneak in twice and I've had to make sure that the door is securely shut. Sneaky little thing.
This is just a quick update, and I am sure I will be writing more soon. ~ Merribeth
My first cup of black tea this morning, a little on the minty side, which I love. I am still in Claypool, and I'll probably be here for the rest of the month. I've asked Cercia to bring me some extra clothing and such, however I am not letting her get involved.
Yes, she's worried... But I'd be so much more worried about her if she knew what is going on.
Dula is doing well, she's adjusting.
I'm putting together my potion list. I've contacted some people. This trek will be later in the month.
That's all for now, at least until I have a second cup of coffee - yawn.

From Angel!
The Hierophant (Something you believe in):
Merribeth shifted her weight as she talked. “So, you don’t believe in them?” she asked a young woman who she was speaking with, as she was interrupted with a question while cleaning up the cemetery in Divinity’s. “How can I?” she asked. Merribeth smiled. “I believe in the Six. I believe that they’re there, and here,” she gestured all around her “and I believe that they help guide me. That is why I worship Melandru and,” she nodded her head in the direction of Grenth’s statue “am a Priestess of his.”
Death (Someone you really miss):
Merribeth hummed as she cleaned her small home, Dula off playing with a toy somewhere upstairs (she could tell by the TH-WUPA sound every true seconds.) Without realizing, she picked up the picture frame so she could dust off the table underneath, before frowning - but then she smiled. She looked down, the miniature painting small in her hand, however the details were perfect: her great-grandmother Solanum, when she was Merribeth’s age of 25.
Her hair was also raven colored, and was in a Canthan style that she learned from her mother. She didn’t have green eyes, though. Hers were warm chocolate-y brown with a little speck of amber here and there. She was smiling and looked beautiful. This woman helped Merribeth grow into the woman she is today.
The Sun (Your happiest memory):
She was in her home in Queensdale, where she was raised. She had a small, brown leather journal that was worn and nearly falling apart. She carefully flipped a page, studying the words that her family had written about Cantha. There weren’t many, but they were important, a small piece of “home.”
She flipped another page, this one on old Canthan herbs. One was drawn. Merribeth touched the drawing, imagining the scent and the feel of the herb.
She decided she should stop wasting time and work on her own herbs. She drank the last of her tea, and stepped outside, her skirt brushing the ground, swirling around leaves as she walked. The garden was small, held within a little brown fence. Herbs were everywhere, beautiful and green and some flowers, so colorful and bright. Merribeth picked some sage, rosemary, verbena and feverfew.
What's Done is Done
Merribeth sunk into her favorite green chair in her little... shitty... living room. She curled up, her journal and quill in her hands. She sighed. She had that feeling in the pit of your stomach, that feeling like you're doing something immoral, whether you are or aren't. It's still there.
What's done is done. I had my... Interview? I don't even know what I had.
I was accepted... I am being sent some reading matieral about Necromancy. I feel like visting grandfather and grandmother's graves and apologizing. "Never, ever, work with the dark arts." That's what they told me, and I never have and now... I will be. I will preserver.
I have a two week trial in The Crescent Moon Company. I can walk away (...I think. I was told so, not that I am sure that I believe that) if I want after that trial. We'll see where the Gods lead me, especially Grenth.
I feel... a little relived that I'll finally be learning about something so connected with Him. I am actually surprised I've gone for 25 years without learning about them.
To be fair, I don't know why grandfather and grandmother told me to stay away from Necromancy. I asked, and they never answered. I was told not to ask about Necromancy, not to talk about Necromancy, and never ever to learn about Necromancy.
Maybe something happened with my grandparents, or parents, that they didn't want to tell me about. There are no death records.
I am thinking way too much about this. It's almost time for bed. Dula is licking me, I think she can tell that I am stressed and I think she is my familiar.
If I do do this, I will be able to afford a new, better home for both of us. I am NOT telling my trainee, because I do not want to worry her or get her mixed into something that I myself am unsure of. Right. It's time for tea.
Such an interesting evening... I feel so clouded by confusion. Maybe writing down what happened will help? I can only hope. I was contacted by a woman who was suffering from pain and needed a healing salve. Well, some of the best salves require herbs that I can't acquire on my own. Grow nightshade in Fort Salma? PLEASE. I have no interest in getting kicked from my home and possibly arrested.
So, I contacted a company... The Crescent Moon Company. They definitely came through, were discreet and very professional. I received my herbs and started working on a salve. I met with the buyer this evening (she was very kind, and because this was her first salve, I didn't charge her. I could have used the gold.) I obviously told her that the salve was topical only. We started talking about herbs, and what I do. I told her that outside of spending time with my trainee, I am very solitary, and our conversation somehow ended up about living in Fort Salma and how much I would like to leave. I do love Fort Salma, because I can help so many wounded people who come - or are dragged - in. I can also give and sell my wares to those in need of them, etc. I feel guilty... But I said what I said, including that I don't have the gold to live somewhere else. Long story short... I may have a job in The Crescent Moon Company! Hence my confusion. Is this really a company I even want to be involved in? DO I even WANT to be involved in a company? She said that they're open-minded towards Priestesses, no matter which God(s) they follow. That's definitely a plus. Plus, this is a good chance to not only acquire herbs and other items but also a chance to work larger batch of salves, ointments and the like. WHAT am I doing? First, that... lovely little adventure with mystery girl and her damn exploding... I don't even know what. Now this. Grenth help me. It's time for bed, thankfully. I hope I can sleep.
