golly what a spirit (you can only hear it down on whickber street) (E, 1/2 chapters posted) - a good omens christmas fic by ineffabildaddy
Crowley burst out of the bathroom and flew down the spiral staircase. What the fuck was happening to her? Maybe Aziraphale would know. Maybe it would make total sense to him that she had woken up with the pointed ears, enlarged eyes, tinted cheeks and delicate hands of a Christmas elf. It's December, a year and a half after the Armageddon that wasn't, and Crowley and Aziraphale share a life of romantic domesticity. Christmas is almost upon them and Crowley notices that Aziraphale is completely lacking his usual sense of Christmas Spirit. In hopes of rectifying this, Crowley buys a potion from Anathema that allegedly guarantees to get the drinker feeling Christmassy. She and Aziraphale both drink the potion before going to bed, and when Crowley wakes up the next morning, she has undergone an unwelcome transformation. Aziraphale has experienced some changes, too, and suddenly he's desperate to make up for lost time delivering presents and making festive preparations. Crowley didn't exactly sign up to be Sexy Santa's Little Helper this Christmas Eve, but if it makes Aziraphale happy, then she'll gladly play along.
this fic is a gift for @omens-for-ophelia! it is a very loose continuation of the creature of mine story, though any relevance is summarised in the chapter notes so you don't need to read it before reading this one!
chapter 2/2 will be up sometime in january - untimely, i know, but life happens!

GWAS South Africa – Understanding Your DNA for Better Health
What is GWAS?
GWAS stands for Genome Wide Association Studies. It is a scientific method used to study human DNA and find out how certain genes are linked to specific health conditions or traits.
In simple words, GWAS looks at the DNA of many people to find genetic patterns. These patterns help scientists and doctors understand why some people get certain diseases and others do not.
In South Africa, GWAS is especially important because of the country’s wide genetic diversity. With people from many different backgrounds, this research helps create better healthcare solutions for everyone.
Why GWAS is Important in South Africa
South Africa is known for its diverse population, which means a wide range of unique genetic information. This makes the country a valuable location for carrying out GWAS.
GWAS (Genome Wide Association Studies) South Africa offers many important benefits:
Better Healthcare: Doctors can offer treatments based on each person’s unique genetic makeup.
Disease Prevention: People can find out their risk for certain diseases before symptoms appear.
Improved Medicines: Drug companies can create better medicines that work for more people.
Stronger Health Policies: The government can plan better public health strategies using genetic data.
CPGR – Leading the Way in Genetic Research
The Centre for Proteomic and Genomic Research (CPGR) is a leading genetic research center in South Africa. It supports many advanced DNA research projects, including GWAS.
CPGR provides high-quality labs, expert scientists, and modern technology to make GWAS (Genome Wide Association Studies) South Africa successful for medical, academic, and commercial projects.
Where GWAS is Used in South Africa
1. Chronic Disease Research
GWAS helps identify genetic links to common long-term diseases such as:
High blood pressure
Diabetes
Asthma
Depression
These conditions are becoming more common in South Africa. With GWAS, individuals and healthcare providers can take action earlier.
2. Infectious Diseases
South Africa faces several infectious diseases like HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and COVID-19. GWAS helps researchers understand why some people are more affected than others and how treatments can be improved.
3. Cancer Research
GWAS is useful in identifying inherited risks for cancers such as:
Breast cancer
Prostate cancer
Colorectal cancer
This allows doctors to offer better screening and personalized treatment plans.
4. Agriculture and Animal Health
GWAS is not only for human health. It is also used in farming to improve crops and livestock. By studying plant and animal DNA, scientists can create stronger, more disease-resistant breeds.
Responsible Research Practices
Because GWAS uses personal genetic data, it is important to follow strict rules and ethical guidelines.
In South Africa, CPGR ensures that every GWAS (Genome Wide Association Studies) project is done with community involvement, informed consent, and secure data handling. Respect for privacy and local values is always a top priority.
Challenges in South Africa
Even though GWAS has many advantages, there are some challenges to overcome:
Lack of Local Data: Most global studies focus on European populations. African DNA is still underrepresented.
Cost: While prices for genetic testing are falling worldwide, the cost is still a barrier in many parts of South Africa.
Limited Resources: There is a need for more local experts, equipment, and trained scientists in the field of genetics.
CPGR is working to solve these problems through education, partnerships, and investments in research infrastructure.
Why Work with CPGR?
If you are planning a DNA research project, looking to understand health risks, or exploring new drug developments, CPGR is the ideal partner for GWAS (Genome Wide Association Studies) South Africa.
What CPGR Offers:
A decade of experience in genomics and molecular biology
World-class laboratories and advanced technology
Strong connections with universities, hospitals, and healthcare organizations
