𝙾𝙿𝙸𝙽𝙸𝙾𝙽 𝙾𝙽 𝙼𝚄𝚁𝙳𝙴𝚁.
No matter how it’s painted, MURDER IS WRONG. Killing innocent people whose worst crimes were BEING KIDS ( besides the minor stuff they did ) is never okay, no matter what. If accidental, that’s one thing. But intentional is another thing. JD made her believe that what she did was what she wanted, at least for a while. Though she thought better of it, she continues to question herself and her choices.
𝚆𝙷𝙴𝙽 𝙸𝚂 𝙸𝚃 𝙹𝚄𝚂𝚃𝙸𝙵𝙸𝙴𝙳?
If it’s accidental, it COULD be justified. Other than that, she sees really no reason to take someone else’s life.
𝙳𝙾𝙴𝚂 𝚂𝙷𝙴 𝙵𝙴𝙴𝙻 𝚃𝙷𝙰𝚃 𝚂𝙷𝙴 𝙲𝙰𝙽 𝙻𝙸𝚅𝙴 𝚆𝙸𝚃𝙷 𝙷𝙴𝚁𝚂𝙴𝙻𝙵 𝙿𝙾𝚂𝚃-𝙼𝚄𝚁𝙳𝙴𝚁?
The short answer? She feels like she HAS TO live with herself. The LONG answer, she feels like she has to because of what JD said before he died. “Clean up the mess down here”, like it’s her responsibility to make something of her life, as it was JD’s dying wish. There are many days where she can’t even look at herself because she feels like what she’s done is vile, but there are days where she forgets for a while. With the ghosts lingering around her with their unfinished business, she feels like she could be a ghost too, just alive. But she still pushes on, and some days she’s not even sure why she bothers to at all.
𝙳𝙾𝙴𝚂 𝚂𝙷𝙴 𝙱𝙻𝙰𝙼𝙴 𝙷𝙴𝚁𝚂𝙴𝙻𝙵?
Oh, absolutely. Even with JD saying he was the one who did it, Veronica still assumes some of the guilt. Especially with being the only one alive, she feels like she hasn’t made up for it and can’t make up for it. She finds herself as irredeemable, no matter how she pushes. As she gets older, it gets a little more bearable, but there are dreams that creep into her mind’s eye in the middle of the night that leave her screaming and drenched in sweat, and she knows that feeling was fleeting and the blame coats her like grease. Sticky, unbearable. The blame lingers like the ghosts and attacks only when she feels at her most calm, but it’s still there.
