Getting caught had been the last thing she had wanted. They had snagged her while she was shifting back from her run, the sun barely lighting the horizon. There were burn marks littering her skin, her clothes torn and frayed. They wanted to know about her family and were content to hurt her until she told.
“I didn’t do anything! I never hurt anyone! Please!” she begged, screaming through her sobs. She just wanted this to be over.
