Gytheion, a small town and harbor on the southern Peloponnese, Greece. Gytheion has been the name of the region since antiquity. According to the Greek Mythology, Apollo and Hercules once fought there as they were both claiming a Delphic tripod, but they were soon reconciled. As a result, the region was named “Γύη Θεών” (Gýe Theón), meaning “Land of Gods”. The story is first mentioned in Xenophon’s Hellenica, mid-4th century BC.
