“So how’s things with Y/N-can?” Tendou question, smirking widely as he saw his friend cast his eyes to the floor for a moment.
Ushijima replied, looking back up again, “It’s good.”
Tendou only squinted at him. Ushijima had certain little movements he’d do when he was flustered. It wasn’t that simple to spot, but Tendou knew him well. Little things like gazing at the floor for a second or spinning the ball in his hands had given him away.
“Well, how far have you gone, Wakatoshi-kun?” The red-head asked, nudging Ushijima’s side as he kept his grin on, “What stage are you on with our dear little Y/N-chan?”
Ushijima shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know what stages there are in a romantic relationship.” He informs the Middle Blocker, “Y/N hasn’t said anything either.”
The two of them were on their way to their dinner after practice. Their own training camp was held at their school, other ones coming to theirs and playing matches. Currently, the teams were eating and relaxing for tomorrow day of non-stop games.
Tendou scratches his cheek as he thought. Then, as if a light bulb was turned on, he gasped, “Oh! Have you told her that you love her yet?”
“No.”
“Excuse me?” Tendou stopped, tilting his head as he stared at the Ace in surprise. “You haven’t told Y/N-chan you love her yet? Why not? That’s like Stage Two!” He waved his arms around like a maniac as Ushijima thought to himself.
“I thought it was common knowledge between Y/N and I.” Ushijima spoke to Tendou, continuing on his way as he followed the captain, “I didn’t think it was necessary to say something we both already know.”
Tendou shook his head as he opened the door to the dining room. “Wakatoshi-kun, you have to tell her! She’ll love it, I promise!” He told him.
The two of them saw their table amongst the rest of the schools. Goshiki was ranting off about the Ace position whilst Shirabu glared at him, Leon trying to shush him so the official setter wouldn’t get too mad. All of the team had their trays of food already, saving two seats at the front side by side.
As they made their way over, Ushijima sat down with Tendou beside him, the team greeting them. Just before he could ask, Ushijima watched as Y/N placed trays in front of the Ace and the Middle Blocker.
“Hey, Wakatoshi.” She chimed, leaning over his shoulder and kissing his cheek before making her way towards her seat in front of him, “Ohira said you and Tendou would be a bit late 'cause Coach wanted to talk to you, so I got your food ready early.”
Ushijima thanked her, Tendou waving his arms in the air and calling her the 'Goddess of Happiness’. Y/N giggled back, going to eating as she listened to Shirabu tell off Goshiki.
It was only about 30 minutes when most were finished. Goshiki had ran off to train some more, Shirabu and Ohira excusing themselves to make sure nothing would break.
Y/N shook her head as she laughed at something Tendou said, standing up from the table. “I’m going to go put my things away.” She says, picking up her tray and moving to the kitchen.
Tendou glanced at Ushijima. “Wakatoshi-kun, now is a great time!” He claims.
“Really?” Ushijima asked, finishing his food along with Tendou.
It’s not that he didn’t understand that 'I love you’ can mean so much, but just that he didn’t know when to say it.
“Of course! Look, look, she’s coming back now.” Tendou says, nodding his head towards Y/N’s direction.
She set her hands on her hips. “So, are you two going to go to your dorms or to watch the boys practice?” Y/N asked, helping them by picking up their empty trays.
“I think we’re going back to our rooms. Wanna’ come, Y/N-chan?” Tendou claps his hands together, bright smile to the girl, “I’m sure Coach will be fine with it, he trusts you… to some extent.”
Y/N tilts her head with a smile. “Sure thing, but only for an hour or two.” She says back, standing up with the team’s left empty trays, “I’ve got to head back to my dorm before it gets too dark.”
Ushijima nods his head. “I’ll walk you back to your room when you leave.” He states, standing up in front of her.
Y/N grins as she faces him. “Sure thing, Wakatoshi.” She says, “Let me just put these away and—”
“I love you.” He speaks in a monotone voice.
Y/N’s voice halts as she widens her eyes at her tall boyfriend. She tried to speak back, wanting to return the words she felt.
How could he say it so calmly?
Suddenly, she drops the trays, the sound echoing through the dining room. The commotion shocked the other players, coaches and cooks, but Y/N stood as still as could be.
Tendou failed to hold in his laughter as Ushijima kneeled down to pick up the trays, standing back up and giving Y/N a kiss on her cheek. “Give me a moment, Y/N.” He speaks before walking off to put the trays away.
Semi walked up to his fellow Third Year, waving his hand in front of Y/N’s face. “L/N? You okay?”
The girl simply covered her red face, gushing back, “I—I wasn’t prepared for…”
Ushijima came back, hand on Y/N’s shoulder. “Are you alright?” He asks, as if nothing had happened.
Y/N immediately turned around, engulfing him in a large hug, arms around his waist. “You can be so blunt sometimes.”
Tendou Satori:
“Hey there, Cutie.” Tendou called out from the entrance of the equipment room.
Y/N turned around at the voice of her boyfriend, smiling once her eyes landed on him. “Satori. You should be practicing, right?” She spoke, shaking her head as she turned away.
She was helping with training by collecting the practice jerseys for the boys. The coach had asked Y/N to go, partly because it seemed like she should be assisting him in some way.
Tendou walked towards her, arms stretched out in front of him. “Coach said to come and help you.” He explains, drawing nearer as Y/N picks up the yellow jerseys on the bottom hook, “He also said you were taking too long.”
Y/N deadpanned. “He asked me to grab the jerseys like a minute ago.”
“I know.” Tendou replies, smiling down at her. Y/N rolls her eyes, searching for the blue jerseys.
She finds them on the highest hook. Which was way too high for her to grab. She knew they were tall volleyball players, but that was just mean to have hooks that high.
Trying on her tippy toes, Y/N struggles to grab the jerseys. Just as she was about to give up, Tendou came up from behind her and took the jerseys off the hook.
“Here you go, Cutie.” He said, handing them to her.
Y/N grinned, taking the articles from his palms. “Thank you, Satori.” She spoke, tugging him down to plant a kiss on his lips, “Now get back to practice.”
Tendou towers over her, forehead against hers. “Are you going to watch me?” He asks as if he didn’t know the answer himself.
“Of course I will.” She chuckled, walking towards the door as Tendou followed, “Love you, Satori.”
It was so relaxed and easy that he almost missed it. But he stopped on his tracks, watching her walk away to give the other players coloured jerseys.
“Here you go, Goshiki.” Y/N spoke, handing him a blue jersey.
The first year nodded his head. “Thank you, L/N-senpai!” He called out before tugging the jersey on.
She then turned towards Shirabu to give him a different coloured jersey when she suddenly felt a heavy weight on her shoulders.
Arms wrapped around her shoulders, making her lean forward as Tendou pressed his cheek against hers.
“S—Satori!” She gasped, holding onto his arms.
“Aw! I love you too, Cutie!” He announces loudly, the rest of the team watching his antics. Tendou kissed her cheek, enjoying how flushed she was.
Semi Eita:
“Shirabu, have you seen Eita?” Y/N asked once the rest of the team walked into the dining hall, “I texted him but he’s not answering.”
The setter tilts his head and rubs the back of his neck. “Ah, he’s practicing serves at the gym right now. We asked him to come to lunch, but he said he would take a while.” Shirabu informed her.
Y/N thanked the Second Year, excusing herself and exiting the hall.
It only took her a minute to get to the gym, already hearing the squeaking of volleyball shoes and the grunts of a familiar boy.
“Semi Semi?” She called.
He was already in the air, arm in position to practice his serve. Y/N watched as he made contact with the ball, sending to over the net and in the direct corner of the court. A slight sigh left her lips.
“Working hard, I see.” She spoke, leaning against the entrance of the gym.
Semi turned his head towards her. “Y/N. Sorry, I didn’t hear you come in.” He said back to her, standing up straight as she walked towards him, “I was just about to leave.”
“No you weren’t.” Y/N claimed, raising a brow as she crossed her arms over her chest.
Semi slouched his shoulders with a sigh, “Yeah, I wasn’t. You caught me there…”
She held out her hands, collecting Semi’s ones in her smaller palms. His eyes softened at her gesture, tugging her a bit closer.
“You work really hard, Eita.” She claimed, sliding her arms around his torso, “But dinner is ready. Aren’t you coming to eat?”
He sheepishly shrugged his shoulders, leaning his arms around her neck. Semi hummed back, “Well… I mean I would’ve stopped by for a snack or something…”
Y/N gave him a serious look as she told him, “Eita, everyone else is already at dinner. Why don’t you join your team?”
Semi’s eyes drifted to the other side of the court, where many volleyballs laid out. “I just wanted to practice some serves before heading back.” He claims, knitting his brows, “I need to get better at them.”
Y/N lifts her hands up, placing them on his cheels and making him look down at her. “You’re serves are great, Eita, everyone knows that.” She says, pressing her lips into a thin line, “You can practice more tomorrow, it’s already sunset and the food will get cold soon.”
Semi sighed, nodding his head slowly, “Okay, I’ll come. Help me pack up?”
“Sure thing.”
Shirabu Kenjiro:
“Kenji’!” Y/N shouted happily, hands thrown up in the air.
Shirabu smiled unconsciously, closing his eyes as she walked up to them. It was the end of a match, them winning again. Y/N had been watching the whole time, cheering the loudly for Shiratorizawa.
Shirabu opened his eyes, ready to receive a hug from his loving girlfriend. Only to be met with the sight of a certain First Year stopping Y/N on her tracks.
Goshiki moves his fists up and down with excitement. He was jumping on his spot, making Y/N widen her eyes before giggling at his antics.
“L/N-senpai!” The young volleyball player called out to the girl, energetic aura coming off of him, “Did you see all my cool spikes? I got a lot of points and receives, didn’t I?”
Y/N waved at him to calm down and giggled back, “Of course I did, I was watching the whole game, Goshiki.” She moved her arms in a spiking motion. “I think with some more practice, you’ll become Shiratorizawa’s Ace!”
As the two of them continued their conversation, Goshiki became more lively, which made Y/N more lively. However, she couldn’t look over Goshiki’s shoulder. This made her miss the irritated look on her boyfriend’s face.
“Ooh, is our dear Goshiki making a move on our Setter’s girlfriend?” Tendou says, raising his brows as he looks to Goshiki, “What shall we do?”
Shirabu held his breath for a second before rolling his eyes at the scene before him. Goshiki was still jumping, telling her how happy he was to hear that. Y/N was being polite, Shirabu knew that, but sometimes he wished she would tell Goshiki to go away.
Shirabu grunted, nodding to Tendou and Ushijima, “Please excuse me. I’ll handle this.”
Tendou cheered for him as Shirabu walked towards Goshiki, who was happily chirping Y/N’s ears off as she patiently waited. When she saw a familiar figure come closer, she smiled a little at him, giving a sweet little wave.
But she widened her eyes as soon as he placed his hand on Goshiki’s shoulder.
“How about you leave my girlfriend alone and stop talking so big for someone who’s just Ushijima’s shadow?” Shirabu requested, pulling him away from Y/N.
Goshiki was going to retort when Leon came to save him, telling him to board the bus. Y/N gave him a sorry look, shrugging her shoulders as Shirabu grasped her hand.
“Come on, we should get on the bus too.” Shirabu spoke, already pulling her towards the vehicle.
Y/N followed, sitting beside him and away from Goshiki. “You seem pissed for someone who won the game with a Setter Dump, Kenjiro.” She spoke, grinning as Shirabu glanced out the window.
He squeezed her palm, laying their joined fingers on his lap. “He’s going to infect you with annoyance.” Shirabu stated, staring at her in the eyes.
She leaned her head against his shoulder, wrapping her other arm around his. “Whatever you say, Kenji’.” She sighed, “I love you.”
He froze, gulping as he waited a few seconds. Y/N didn’t mind, she just wanted to tell him so she didn’t need him to say it back. If he didn’t want to, he didn’t want to.
But just as the car started up, Shirabu kisses the top of Y/N’s head and said back, “I love you too.”
Goshiki Tsutomu:
“Y/N!” Goshiki yelled out in horror, seeing his girlfriend being knocked back onto her butt as she held her mouth, “Oh my God, are you okay?”
Shirabu sighed out harshly from the sidelines as Goshiki rushed to his girlfriend, “If you’re becoming Shiratorizawa’s Ace with that aim, then we’re all doomed.”
“Shirabu.” Leon said, giving him a warning look, “Give him a little break. He just spiked the ball into L/N’s face.”
“Exactly.”
Over with Y/N and Goshiki, Y/N’s eyes were brimmed with tears as the volleyball player frantically waved his hands. Y/N wasn’t crying because she was angry or sad, but the pain was just so surprising that it made her begin to tear up.
Tendou was squatting down beside Y/N, patting her head as he said, “Oh Y/N-chan, the dangers of the court. We wish you well on your road to recovery.”
Ushijima spoke, standing behind Tendou, “She looks like she’s bleeding.”
Y/N pulls her hand away, drops of red falling onto the gym wood. She made a little noise before pulling her hand back to cover my cut and bruised lip.
Semi moved to kneel beside her, handing the girl a tissue. Y/N took it, thanking Semi and dabbing her lip with it before just pressing the tissue harder against her cut.
“Y/N, I’m so sorry! Please forgive me!” Goshiki shouted, hands pressed together as he bowed his head, “I promise I’ll never hit you in the face again!”
In return, he got a laugh. Looking up, he saw Y/N wave her hand dismissively and smile a bit, her other hand covering her bottom lip.
“Tsutomu.” She spoke, tilting her head a bit, “It’s fine. It’s not my first time cutting my lip.”
Goshiki pouted at her as she wiled her blood off the floor. The rest of the team went back to their friendly match against each other as Goshiki moved Y/N outside, taking her hand and sitting at the step.
Y/N took the tissue away from her lip, pressing a finger beside the cut before wincing a bit. “Huh, it doesn’t hurt that much.” She informed Goshiki, who looked like he was about to cry.
He held his head in his palms and groaned, “I can’t believe I just spiked the ball into my girlfriend’s face. I’m terrible.”
“No, you’re not, Tsutomu.” Y/N said, facing him fully as she brushed her hair away from her cheek, “You didn’t do it on purpose. You didn’t mean to hurt me. So an apology is fine. I’ve already accepted it anyway.”
Goshiki kept pouting at her. Y/N then brought her hands to cup his face, squishing his cheeks a little. She said, serious tone, “Listen. It’s fine. As long as you realise that it was a mistake, then you’ll be fine. This isn’t permanent, I’ll heal.”
She leaned forward, forehead against his. “I love you, Tsutomu.”
“Love you too, Y/N.” He hummed back, dipping his head to press a kiss to her lips.
After a second, she pulls away, tissue against her cut again. She mumbles, “A—Actually… it just hurts a little, that’s all.”
daichi was having a hard time with the team. specifically, he was having a hard time with the first years. even more specifically, sawamura daichi was having a hard time with kageyama and hinata.
“guys, please listen to daichi! he's gonna’ get super mad!” asahi calls, holding up his hands with a scared look. the captain stood a few feet away, off the court as the two tried out a new training set, completely ignoring the coach who was about to burst with anger.
it was hard for hinata to grasp the main point of it and what he was to get out of it, and kageyama was irritated with him because this was their fourth time going through it.
“geez, the first years are really giving daichi a good headache today, huh?” sugawara sighed out, slumping his shoulders. he looked over to the said man, seeing his figure glow with a dark aura. it scared him a bit, and daichi had tried so many times to get the troublemakers’ attention and it still hadn’t worked.
tanaka placed a hand on his hip. “i'm gonna’ go knock some sense into 'em.” he states, beginning his way over to the bickering duo. As ennoshita grabs tanaka by the collar to stop him and tsukishima groan that they’re all idiots, the gym door opens.
“l/n!” nishinoya gasps, running over to try and engulf her in a hug. she stops, gulping and ducking under his arms before turning back to him.
"'noya, you gotta' stop that." she sighs, holding up a friendly hand instead.
the libero lights up and gives her a high-five before running over to tell tanaka about it.
practice hadn’t officially started yet, so she had about 15 minutes to talk with everyone and do what she could to help.
y/n walks over to sugawara who was on the other side of the net to the fighting boys. “hey, koushi. where's daichi?” she questions, not able to find her boyfriend’s loving gaze her way. the gray-haired setter nervously points to the right sidelines on the other part of the court.
there, daichi stood with clenched fists and a look that said he was going to blow up soon. a few feet away was coach ukai and takeda, both looking exhausted too. kiyoko ran her fingers down the clipboard, blank expression as she wrote down the words 'attempt 9’.
“oh wow…” y/n mumbles before she pats sugawara's shoulder, “Thanks, koushi. i'll be back in just a bit.” as he waves her off, y/n starts on her way over to daichi.
she stands beside him, tilting her head to the side. “daichi?” she murmured, getting no response, “c'mon, daichi, it’s just me.”
she places a hand on his sleeve, pulling it gently. “you should take a break. you haven’t even begun practice yet and you’re about to blow a fuse.” daichi continued to glare at the boys shouting 'dumbass’ and 'idiot’.
“are you listening? babe…” she whispers out to him, seeing that he wouldn’t stop mentally beating up his newest teammates.
“man...” she tugged down the side of his collar until he was leaning her way. in a swift motion, she pressing her lips to his cheek quickly before pulling away.
that catches his attention. “y—y/n!" he gasps, making tanaka, sugawara and nishinoya a few meters away giggle into their hands, “what are you...?”
she rolls her eyes with a small frown on her lips. “y'know i love you and i hate it when you’re angry. i always miss my boyfriend when that happens.” she tells him. daichi swallows the lump in his throat, his heart calming down a bit.
“you said…” he tries to speak but nothing can comprehend how freaking adorable that was. and how he adored the way she said 'i love you’. “i love you too.”
“ooh, daichi and y/n, sitting in a tree!” tanaka and nishinoya sing out, asahi and sugawara trying to shush them, “k - i - s - s - i - n - g!” y/n and daichi turn to those second years, the captains frown coming back for a bit.
“you idiots get back to stretching.”
y/n kisses his jawline, smiling sweetly. “don't worry, you can deal with them, i'll help kageyama and hinata.”
↣ azumane asahi:
to say asahi was a little anxious would be the understatement of the decade.
he had just rejoined the volleyball club and was going to tell his girlfriend today after school. the two usually hung out every monday, tuesday and friday. but asahi had to cancel because of training and practice matches. y/n wasn’t pushy with it, she thought that the final year of high school was taking a toll on him.
but it was just because he joined the volleyball club again. and never told her. his excuse being that he had too much homework and that his parents needed him home.
“ah, y—y/n!” asahi shouts out, hating the stares he got thrown his way. the said girl turned around, nearly at the gate.
she furrowed her brows and titled her head. “asahi? what's wrong?” she questioned.
today was tuesday and practice was in 25 minutes. he needed to tell her. he was surprised to see that she didn’t wait at her classroom for him anymore, as they’d walk together until recent times.
the ace clenches his jaw, staring at her. “i've, um… i've got something i—i have to admit to you!” he says, lifting his shoulders. his bun was kinda’ messy from all the running, but that wasn’t why his cheeks were red. he was very nervous.
y/n faces him fully with a lopsided grin. she lets go of the bag strap over her chest and around her shoulder. “asahi, you sound like you’re going to confess your feelings to me again.” she giggles a bit as she steps closer to him.
asahi widens his eyes. “that's not what i—!” he stops himself, clearing his throat, “i just wanted to tell you why i haven’t been available recently.” y/n’s grin drops a bit as he continues, “and before you think something, i'm not doing anything… scandalous, i promise. i'm... a part of the volleyball team again.”
he presses his lips into a thin line. her face is hard to read.
“i know.”
“what?”
“i always knew you would go back to volleyball, you're passionate about it.” s hetilts her head with a chuckle, “and i ran into kinoshita on friday. he asked if i’d seen you and when i said 'no, what for’, he said you were running volleyball drills soon. so i kinda’ knew.”
asahi immediately bows, bag sliding down his arm. “i apologise, y/n, for not telling you sooner!” he states, closing his eyes, “i just didn’t know how to say it. and i want you to know that i still want to spend all my time with you, it’s just that practice goes on for—”
he feels something on the back of his head, making him open his eyes. y/n is standing directly in front of him, hand on his shoulder and lips pulling away from his head.
“i'ts okay, asahi. i love you nonetheless. if you’re back, then i'm guessing you’re not giving up any time soon.” she sees asahi nod his head up to look her in the eye. she holds up a mighty fist. “just promise to save me a seat when you make it to Nationals!”
asahi grins, the tightening in his chest leaving. “i will, y/n. i love you too.” he says, standing up straight and looking back at her.
↣ tanaka ryunnosuke:
it was a friendly match between all these different schools. coach ukai said that we had a lot of time for the matches. sadly for hinata and kageyama, they’d have to sit a bit of the start out.
it was break for the karasuno boys and the other teams, y/n and kiyoko handing out drink bottles and yachi giving towels to the players. as soon as they were all handed out, y/n walked back to drop off the extra drink bottles when a certain hazel-eyed cat followed her with curiousity.
“you're a manager?” kuroo asks, scaring the girl.
she gasps, nearly dropping the water bottles, “i—i'm sorry, I’m not a manager. i'm more like a… cheerleader? i don’t know, i'm a support system, kinda’.” she smiles nervously for a second.
“oh, right. i was gonna’ say, short-stack didn’t tell me about another new recruit.” kuroo eyes the girl up and down with a smirk.
“you're really cute, ’cheerleader’, y'know that?” he chuckles, rubbing the back of his neck. y/n presses her lips into a thin line. the only other person who has called upon her so casually was—
“ARE YOU TRYING TO STEAL AWAY MY GIRLFRIEND?” tanaka shouts, pointing an accusing finger at the tall middle blocker, “HUH? WHAT DO YOU GOTTA’ SAY FOR YOURSELF?”
kuroo holds his his hands defensively. He smirks at the Second Year Karasuno student. “Sorry, dude. Didn’t think you’d scoop up a girl as attractive as her. But she is cute, don’t you think?”
“OF COURSE I KNOW THAT, YOU BED-HEAD PUSS!” Without another word, Tanaka grabs Y/N’s hand and tugs her off. She bites her lip, trying to get in pace with her boyfriend. When they’re a good distance away, Tanaka grumbles, “Stupid cat, always tryin’ to make me mad. Asshole.”
Y/N smiles a little, squeezing his hand before hearing him say, “Y'know I love you, right Y/N?” He slows his pace at his words. Y/N chuckles back, nodding her head, “I love you too. Some idiot cat isn’t gonna’ sweep me away from you. It’ll take way more than just that, believe me.”
Tanaka feels his face burn brightly as the words leave her mouth. He looks down at the girl and grins widely. He stops walking and leans his forehead against hers.
“Do you really mean it?” He asks, a silly smile. He still has such an adorable reaction to when she admits things like this. Always red-faced and completely calm. Y/N pats his arm and speaks, “Of course I mean it, Hot-Head.”
Ennoshita Chikara (WING SPIKER):
“Chikara!” She calls, running up to him after the match had ended. Enooshita turns around, dropping the bottle from his lips. He raises a brow as he sees Y/N jogging up to him, a spare towel in hand.
The rest of Karasuno was packing up. The usual, Kiyoko being dreamed on by Nishinoy and Tanaka, Tsukishima and Yamaguchi laughing at Hinata and Kageyama’s antics. Daichi was talking with Takeda and Coach Ukai about the game off to the side. Suga and Asahi were watching their Underclassmen play around.
So when Narita and Kinoshita spotted their friend’s attention being thrown off to the side, they could only smile and quickly move away to the others to give him some times alone with her.
“Y/N, hey, I didn’t know you were—oof!” He stops himself as Y/N jumps up and wraps her arms around his neck, a warm smile. She giggles, “I saw you win that last point, Chikara! You were incredible!”
Ennoshita pulls his arms around her and closes his eyes, nose nuzzled into her shoulder. “Heh, thank you. It was Sugawara’s good toss though.” He admits, setting her down onto the floor again.
Y/N holds his her hands and gasps, “But your spike was so good! The other team couldn’t even believe it! Their faces were so funny too, did you see it? The speed of the ball was so fast and you just slammed it into the floor and passed the blockers and—”
“Y/N!” Chikara says, trying to stop her little speech. He holds her wrists, halting her fists from moving up and down in the air. “You’re going to fluster me in front of my team, Y/N…”
She rolls her eyes, throwing the towel around his neck and pulling him down by the ends. Ennoshita’s cheeks blush pink as she leans up, a grin on her face.
“Aw, come on. Are they gonna’ make fun of how much I love watching you play or something?” She asks, feeling Ennoshita’s hands on her shoulders. As he widens his eyes and pulls away slightly, hands gripping her shoulders tighter, Y/N tilts her head. “You… You okay, Chikara?”
He nods his head slowly. “Y—Yeah… It’s just that you, um…” He scratches his cheek nervously before Y/N lifts his other hand off of her shoulder. He mumbles, “I love you.”
Y/N can’t stop the grin on her face. She says, “That’s great to hear, Chikara! Oh, I have to go load bus with Shimizu now, but please save me a seat next to you.”
She blows a kiss his way before turning around and waving over her shoulder. “By the way, I love you too!”
Ennoshita smiles to himself, watching her leave.
Until Tanaka whines, “Aw, why can’t Kiyoko treat me like that?”
Hinata Shoyo (MIDDLE BLOCKER):
“Sho?” Y/N mumbles, walking into his classroom to see him sleeping on his desk. The lunch bell had rung and she wanted to eat with him. But it looked like he wasn’t going to do so at the moment.
She softly smiles, making her way towards him. She kneels down in front of his desk, chin and hands on the wood as she looked at him. “Shoyo? I can’t believe you slept through another class. But you look adorable like this.” She sighed, bringing a hand to brush his locks.
A few moment later, he opened his eyes sleepily, immediately looking up to her. He jumps in his seat, nearly falling off. That results in Y/N shooting up and holding out a hand to grab his collar to balance him. “Hey, hey, it’s just me!”
“Y—Y/N! Oh, thank God…” He sits up straight and rubs his neck sheepishly. “Sorry, I was training pretty late last night. Coach Ukai is running new training blocks and I haven’t gotten used to it just yet.”
“Don’t worry, Sho.” She waves her hand with a smile, “Speaking of volleyball, do you have practice tonight?” As the orange-haired boy nods his head, he widens his eyes at what his girlfriend’s said.
He gasps, standing up from his seat quickly and grabbing his jacket, “Crap! Kageyama wanted to practice some spikes at lunch! Aw, he’s gonna’ kill me!” He rushes passed the girl, her H/C flowing as the wind picks up. She turns around as clutches her lunch bag. She really wanted to eat with him today.
Hinata stops at the door, whizzing around and rushing back to her. She tilts her head before Hinata engulfs her in a big hug. “I’m very sorry about this! I promise to eat lunch with you tomorrow!” He lets her go and moves to the door again.
Y/N giggles, “Okay, Shoyo. See you later, I love you!” She opens her eyes to see Hinata bright red. He stammers, “Wait… r—really? You…” Y/N nods her head, running a hand through her hair.
He jogs back to her with a small smile. When he’s close enough, he plants a kiss on her cheek. “I’ll tell Kageyama that I was busy.” He states, taking her hand, “I love you too. I wanna’ spend lunch with you.”
Tsukishima Kei (MIDDLE BLOCKER):
“Bokuto!” Y/N shouts from the sidelines, uncrossing her arms as she watched Kuroo help Tsukishima up from the floor. She walked across the court as Bokuto shrugged his shoulders. “What, L/N? You can’t expect your boyfriend to learn without getting hurt!”
She rolls her eyes and nudges Tsukishima over to the side. Kuroo reluctantly let Lev take over Tsukki’s spot in their mini game against Bokuto and Akaashi. Y/N takes out the bandage Tsukishima was used to using in games. She holds out her hand to the sitting blonde.
“I’m fine.” He says, stretching his fingers. Bokuto had hit the ball with all his might, his fingers should be broken by now. Tsukki was hard-headed, though. “It’s not like I haven’t blocked anybody before.” He looked away, fixing his glasses with his unhurt hand.
Y/N squinted at him, holding the bandage higher to his face. “Kei… You know you have to use this. Do I have to force you?” She tilts her head to the side, making a face to her boyfriend. He scoffed back, “As if you could, Short-Stuff.”
Y/N frowns, dropping her hands to her lap. She was sitting on her legs beside Tsukishima, who still towered over her in his position. She knew that Tsukishima was stubborn and hard to persuade when his mind was set, but this was just ridiculous.
“Kei, you’re a really good Middle Blocker.” Y/N sighs, rubbing her neck, “You’re incredibly smart and you can read the opponents. Now that you’re training with Kuroo, Akaashi and Bokuto, you’re getting hurt way more often. People would start to think you were the tallest Libero ever with the bruises on her arms and legs.”
She stares at the said bruises on his forearms. Although she loved seeing him work so hard, she hated seeing him get hurt so easily. She holds out her hand again.
“Look, I love you, so don’t be such a hard-ass when I take care of you, okay?” She huffs, lips in a thin line.
Tsukki clenches his jaw. He gazed down at the girl who held a serious face. Slowly, he could feel the warmth moving up his neck and onto his cheeks. Although they’ve been dating for a few weeks and known each other longer, he still couldn’t get over her personality. How flustered it made him.
“You’ve always been so damn straight-forward…” He grumbles, placing his hurt hand in her palm.
Y/N lifts the corner of her mouth before beginning to bandage his fingers. “I think I get it more from you.” She mumbles, giving him a glance.
Tsukki locks eyes with her, again knowing he was probably blushing. He found out because of the silly grin on his girlfriend’s face. “Aw, are you mad at me?” She mumbles, finishing up his tape. He continues to glare at her.
Y/N then stands up, shrugging her shoulders and sighing, “Well in that case, I guess I should take it back. Guess I don’t love—”
As she turned to leave, Tsukishima reached out his hand and grasped hers, not looking back at her but rather at her hand in his.
“I love you too, so why would you take it back?” He grumbles, tightening his grip on her. Y/N chuckles, squatting down in front of him and pressing a kiss to his cheek, “I wouldn’t.”
Yamaguchi Tadashi (MIDDLE BLOCKER):
“Y/N, are you sure about this?” Yamaguchi asks, glancing at their joined hands as they walked. They were on their way to Tsukishima’s house for some studying. He said they were allowed to come only if they didn’t 'act like hormonal teenagers the whole time’.
Y/N stared up at him, grasping her bag. “Hm? Do you want me to let go?” She questions, slowly releasing her grip on his hand. But Yamaguchi quickly squeezes her palm, not enough to hurt her but only tell her that he liked holding her hand.
“N—No, I don’t.” He mutters out, pulling her closer to his side, “It’s just that we’ve never held hands outside of school before… and it’s such an open world outside of school…” Y/N slouches her shoulders, grinning at her boyfriend.
Although they had been together for almost a month and a half, Yamaguchi was still so nervous. He didn’t want to mess up with Y/N, so he had to think over every one of his moves.
Y/N swings their hands in between their bodies. “You know I don’t mind, Tadashi. Everything is perfect.” She chimes, trying to keep up with his fast pace, “You don’t have to be so tense around me still. We’ve friends since First Year Middle School, remember?”
Yamaguchi nods his head, running a hand down his neck to his shoulder. “Of course I remember. Tsukki was the one who talked to you first, though.” He pointed out, looking down the path, “Although, he did insult you and I had to apologise.”
Y/N let out a huff, “Yeah, true. Tsukki was a pain in the ass in Middle School, he’s only gotten a little bit better though. He’s actually helping us study this year.” Yamaguchu chuckled at that.
It was true, Tsukishima used to help when he was begged, but he offered this time.
“But anyway, I was glad you came over to apologise. Now look where we are, Tadashi.” She looks up to Yamaguchi, who kept a smile of his own on his face.
Y/N hummed, “I love you, you know that?” He snuck a glance down at her as she giggled to herself.
“I—I love you too, Y/N…” He could automatically feel the blush overtake his face. Just the smallest things about her made him get jittery and lovestruck. And those words could only make his heart speed up.
“Oh, Tsukki’s house is just up ahead.” Y/N stated, tugging Yamaguchi’s hand further. He followed her down the path with lifted shoulders.
“R—Right! Let’s go!”
NEKOMA:
Kuroo Tetsurou (MIDDLE BLOCKER):
“What?” Kuroo chuckles, leaning over his shorter girlfriend, “What’s with that look? Did I do something wrong?” He raises a brow as Y/N turns her head away, hand covering her mouth as her blush grew.
It’s only been 9 minutes of break from studying at her house, and Kuroo had her heart beating faster than she ever could’ve imagined. He’d been flirting with her non-stop ever since she offered to take a short break. She couldn’t handle it anymore.
She grunts, hoping the beating in her chest would stop for a minute, “Tetsu’, we—we have to get back to studying now… The test is, um, is next week.” She hated how much he made her trip over her words. And the way his smirk meant he caught onto her.
He runs a hand through his messy hair and sighs, “But Babe, we just started our break, we’ll fry our brains if we start up again so soon. And you said 20 minutes, right?” Y/N slowly nods her head, dropping her hands to her lap.
Kuroo let go of her, scooting closer to her spot and slinging an arm around her shoulder. He felt her tense up for a second before relaxing, leaning more into him. “See? It’s good to take a break, huh?”
Y/N slowly wrapped her arms around his torso, head digging into his chest to hide her red face. He chuckles, his other arm around her lower back now, “You look so cute like this, Y/N.”
“Why do you keep complimenting me?” She asks as she looks up to him. Kuroo grins at the expression on her face. Truly adorable. He retorts, “Because I like seeing your red, blushy face.” Y/N inhales sharply before moving her head into his chest again, making him laugh.
“If you want me to stop, all I need to hear are those three words.”
“Hm?”
“You know what I mean, Babe.”
It takes a few second, but all he gets in muffled talking in his shirt as a response. He pulls away and asks, “What did you say, Babe?” Y/N lifts her head off of his chest, now sitting up with her arms loosely around his body.
“I love you.” She says, gazing towards him. The male widens his eyes, breathing stopped as he replayed those words. “Tetsu’?” Y/N called, hand on his cheek. He was blushing, harder than she ever did.
In a swift movement, Kuroo pulls her closer and nuzzles his nose in between her shoulder and neck. “I meant 'I’ll slap you’ but I like those words better.” He can feel Y/N clench the back of his shirt, meaning she was a little embarrassed now.
“I love you too, Y/N.”
Inouka Sou (WING SPIKER):
Y/N smiled as she watched her boyfriend rant about his training camp. He had only been gone for a few days, but he had so much to tell her. And Y/N listened to every word, his voice just so happy and energetic.
“And there was this little kid! Ah, well he wasn’t a kid, he was a First Year like us.” Inouka said, twirling the straw to his drink as Y/N and him sat down at a nearby park after school.
He peered down at her. “And he wasn’t that little, compared to you. Actually, I think you’re around the same height actually, Y/N!”
He chortles, hand on top of Y/N’s head. She grins at him and leans against the back of the bench.
Inouka went on, “Anyway, his name is Hinata Shouyo, and he’s super cool! His spikes were like whoosh, and his blocks were like ping, and his jump was like boing!”
He made movements with his hands to express this further. Y/N sipped her drink, marvelling at how adorable her boyfriend could be.
“And Hinata’s really nice too! We talked after the game and we couldn’t stop complimenting each other. He’s so awesome!” He states, facing her on the seat.
Inouka placed a hand on his chest with with a wide grin. “I’ll make sure to introduce you two the next time we verse Karasuno. I’m certain you and Hinata will be good friends too.”
He sipped his drink, silence overtaking them for the first time. It was only then that he realised he had been the only one talking for the past 15 minutes. He was a little embarrassed.
Inouka looks at Y/N, who was just staring right back with a loving grin. He clears his throat, “Uh, Y/N? Are you okay?” He raises a brow as Y/N doesn’t answer him. “Y/—”
“I love you, Sou.”
He widened his eyes. “Wait, really?” He smiled as Y/N suddenly brought herself back to reality. She waves her hands in the air, utterly embarrassed. “Ah! I—I didn’t know I was thinking out loud, I’m sorry, Sou!” She apologised.
“No, no, no, no—I love you too, Y/N, it’s all good!” Inouka could only assure her that it was okay. Which it was. He didn’t mind at all.
Haiba Lev (MIDDLE BLOCKER):
“Y/N!” A voice shouts, footsteps echoing in the gym loudly. The said girl turns around from helping Kenma with his setting and receives. She tilts her head to the side, seeing Nekoma’s Libero.
“What is it, Yaku?” She asks as Kenma moves off to practice setting to the available spikers in the hall.
Yaku walks up to her, hands on his hips as he groans, “Sorry to interrupt, but Lev wants you. He said he’s dying and he needs an angel to take care of him.” Y/N shakes her head, giving the Third Year a pitiful look. “Is he slacking on receives again?” She asks, getting a nod in return.
Yaku leads Y/N to the other gym, opening the doors and swapping out their shoes befofe entering. Upon doing so, Y/N is greeted with a loud whine.
“Y/N!” Lev shouts, looking up from his spot on the floor. He was laying on his stomach, arms and legs flailed out like a starfish. Y/N lets out another breath, Yaku leaving them alone as she walks over to the dead boy.
“Lev, why are you on the floor?” She asks, sitting cross-legged beside him. Lev moves his body so that his head and on her lap as he looks up to her. He cries out, “I’m dying, Y/N… Your boyfriend’s time has come to an end…”
Y/N closes her eyes for a second, grabbing the towel next to him and wiping away the sweat on his forehead and neck. He hums in appreciation.
“Hey, come on. It’s only training, you do it all the time.” She points out, moving the towel away from his green eyes, “And I thought Yaku was supervising you.”
At that, he groans again and lays an arm over his forehead, “He is. He said I had a 10 minute break before we started up again. So I asked him to get you and, well…” He looks up at her with hope in his eyes. “I was hoping you could ask Yaku to—”
“No.” Y/N says, making Lev lift his arm from his face. He gasps, “But you don’t even know what I was gonna'—”
“I’m not going to ask Yaku to ease up on your training.” She states, crossing her arms, “You know you need this, Lev.” He shakes his head, eyes shut with a pout as he argues, “I do not! I’m a spiker, I can spike! Why aren’t I practicing my spikes, anyway?” He drops his arm back over his eyes.
“Come on, you can do some more receives.” Y/N says, running her fingers up and down the arm on hid head. Lev groans, “No. I can’t. I’m so tired of doing receives.” Y/N rolls her eyes, lifting his arm by his wrist into the air.
Lev glances up at her, still pouting. The girl above him chuckles, “You can do it, Lev. I believe in you.” She runs her fingers through his hair. “And I love you. So please get up.”
Lev holds his breath, not expecting her to say that just yet. In return, Y/N leans down and kisses his forehead just quickly. Her boyfriend’s eyes widen.
In a split second, he bolts up into a sitting position and drags his girlfriend into a big hug. “I love you too! I’ll do all the receives if it means you’ll tell me that more often!”
Yamamoto Taketora (WING SPIKER):
“You’ve gotta’ meet my girlfriend, dude!” Yamamoto states, standing proudly in front of Tanaka. He shows a big smirk on his face, hands on his hips. “She’s the best! Her name is L/N Y/N!”
Tanaka gasps as they set down their drink bottles, “Such a pretty name! But Kiyoko is still amazing!” Yamamoto tilts his head to the side, letting out a sigh as he stared at his girlfriend across the gym. She was now throwing the volleyball towards the net, high enough for it to hit the top of it.
Both Kuroo and Daichi went in for the joust. In the end, Kuroo won, making the crow captain growl with an annoyed smile.
As Y/N was busy chatting with the captain, the dyed-haired Setter next to them and the bouncy orange-haired Middle Blocker, Yamamoto spoke, “Yeah, but Y/N’s just so… oh my God, I can’t even begin to explain it! How do you express how perfect someone is?”
Tanaka patted his shoulder, a knowing smile on his face. “Well, my friend, if she means that much to you…” A devilish smirk starts to replaces the innocent smile. “Why don’t you just tell her you love her?”
Yamamoto widens his eyes, a light gasp drawing out from his mouth. They haven’t even exchanged those words just yet. Yamamoto was waiting for the right time. He didn’t know when that was, but he would know what it came.
Tanaka laughed at the expression on his friend’s face. He leans forward and taunts, “What’s wrong, City Boy? Scared of telling her that? I thought you said she was perfect.” Yamamoto holds up a fist, a determined look on his face.
“Of course she is! And I’m not scared, Tanaka!” He states, glancing over to her again. Now, she was laughing at Lev being kicked in the stomach by an angry Yaku. The way she giggled was absolutely adorable to Yamamoto.
Tanaka rolled his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest. “Yeah right. Go tell her right now if you aren’t scared. I dare you.” He challenges. Yamamoto turns his head away, hands on his hips again. He scoffs, “Now why should I?”
“Then I guess your girlfriend isn’t the best—”
“Y/N!” Yamamoto shouts, facing her fully. When the said girl looks his way, he immediately regrets shouting out. Everybody was staring at him now. Y/N tilts her head and hands the volleyball to Sugawara. “Yeah, Taketora?” She asks, hand on her hip.
Yamamoto gulps, side-glancing at Tanaka who held in his fits of laughter. “I—…” Yamamoto takes in a breath, “I LOVE YOU, Y/N!”
It echoes in the gym, Kuroo, Inouka and Lev giggling quietly at him. Y/N inhales slowly before smiling back at him. She calls, “I love you too, 'Tora!” She gives a thumbs up before Nekoma’s coach calls her over. She waves at Yamamoto before going off.
“See?” Yamamoto cheers, turning back to Tanaka, “She’s the best!” Before anything else, the player on Karasuno points at him and bursts out chortling, “YOUR FACE IS SO RED! YOU CAN’T HANDLE YOUR OWN GIRLFRIEND!”
“SHUT UP!”
AOBA JOHSAI:
Iwaizumi Hajime (WING SPIKER):
“Iwa-chan!” Oikawa shouts across the court, bouncing the volleyball on the floor. He watches as Iwaizumi frustratingly turns to him on the other side of the net. “What is it, Shitty-kawa?”
The captain catches the ball holding it up with one hand. “Aw, come on, Iwa-chan. Don’t be like that.” He says before readying a serve. Aoba Johsai’s volleyball team was doing a three on three match with each other.
It was Oikawa, Kunimi and Matsukawa VS Iwaizumi, Watari and Kindaichi.
As the serve went in, Watari quickly received the ball. Although not being a Setter, Kindaichi set the ball up, Iwaizumi spiking the ball hard towards the opponent. Sadly, it was blocked by Matsukawa and Kunimi.
Y/N watched from the sidelines as Iwaizumi cursed to himself. The ball hit the floor on his side, Watari not being fast enough to save it. She looks over to Oikawa, him with a proud smile.
“Don’t be so pouty, Iwa-chan!” He calls, the ball in his hands again, “That’s the reason why everybody looks at me and not you, isn’t it?” Iwaizumi growls, Kindaichi holding him back as he goes to whack the Setter in the head.
The coach shouts at them to get back to the game, Oikawa poking his tongue out playfully. Y/N shook her head and sighed, “Oikawa’s always been like this. Even if he doesn’t mean what he says, he really likes to annoy Hajime.”
As the Head Coach agrees, Oikawa’s serve goes over and Watari saves it, the ball going over the net again. “Chance Ball!” Matsukawa calls, receiving the ball to Oikawa. The set goes up to Kunimi, who gets blocked by Iwaizumi and Kindaichi.
“Oh, Iwa-chan. You got it!” Oikawa cheers as Matsukawa saves the ball, the captain setting again as Kunimi calls for another spike. This one goes through. Iwaizumi and Kindaichi grunt.
Oikawa tilts his head with a pretty smile. “Huh, I’m wondering how Y/N-chan ended up with you, Iwa-chan.” He says, “You’re always so angry. Has anyone ever seen you smile?”
The play goes on, Iwaizumi getting more and more angry with the Setter. Oikawa would chirp out little insults to him. He was used to it during actual games, but it was practice now. And perhaps, because Oikawa could see Y/N watching Iwaizumi’s every move, he had more reason to tease him.
It was break now, Iwaizumi’s team getting the first set. Oikawa sat beside on the floor, crossed legs with a towel in hand. “Oh, is Iwa-chan really mad now?” He asks, leaning back a bit in case.
Just before Iwaizumi could grab the Setter’s collar and throw him to the wall, another person came to view. Y/N held out a drink bottle to the two of them with a raised brow. “Are you two gonna’ keep going?” She mumbles to them as they take the drinks.
Oikawa scooched over away from his Spiker, making room for the girl. As she sat in between them, he huffed, “I can not believe you chose Iwa-chan out of everybody on our team.” Y/N gave him a look, crossing her arms as she retorts, “What, like you?”
In return, Oikawa runs a hand through his hair. “Well, yes. But what about… maybe, Makki. He’s a good pick for you.” He says, setting his drink bottle down.
Before Iwaizumi can shout at him, Y/N grabs the bottle and squirts some of the water into his face. Oikawa gasps, moving away, “Hey! That’s so rude, Y/N-chan!”
Y/N puts the bottle down, looking away as she states, “I love Hajime, okay? So stop crying over me stealing your Spiker, I’m not breaking up with him for your benefits.”
She leans against Iwaizumi’s shoulders, scooting closer to him as Oikawa wipes his face dry. The Spiker feels his heart beat fasten as she interlaces their fingers. And soon, a tiny grin glows onto his face.
He leans his head against hers and whispers back, “Love you too, Y/N.”
Another whine comes out. “Why don’t you smile like that all the time?”
Kunimi Akira (WING SPIKER):
Y/N heard the bell ring, lifting herself up from her seat and collecting her things. As she said 'goodbye’ to her classmates, she heard a couple of screams and cheers in the hallways outside her classroom. She could already tell who was there.
As she was opening the door, there stood Oikawa getting handed sweet treats from his fangirls. He smiled at them as Iwaizumi rolled his eyes. Then, his gaze landed on Y/N standing in the doorway.
As she closed the door and began walking in the opposite direction, Iwaizumi slapped his captain’s head and grabbed Oikawa by his collar and pulled him along harshly.
“L/N!” Iwaizumi called, making her stop. She turns her head and hums, “Iwaizumi, Oikawa. What brings you down here?” Oikawa rubs the back of his head where Iwaizumi hit him. He looks down at the girl and sighs, “We needed to talk to you, about Kunimi.”
Y/N tilts her her head to the side. “Is he okay?” Oikawa shrugged his shoulders, flashing an unsure smile her way. He sighs, “Well, we wouldn’t know. He hasn’t been coming to practice lately.”
The girl widens her eyes before a forced grunt comes out of her, “I see. I’ll go talk to him, practice is today right?” The two nod their heads, exchanging a few words with her before she sets off to find her boyfriend.
She sees him at the gates, on his phone in his normal school uniform. She clutches her bag and jogs over to him, patting his shoulder. “Hey. Have you been waiting long?”
He looks down and away from his phone. A small grin dawns on his face. “Y/N. Not at all, just about five minutes. I’m fine with waiting for you anyways.” He informs her as she stands directly in front of him, “Ready to go home?”
He reaches out a hand for her to take, a tiny tradition between the two. Y/N beams, taking his hand.
“Not just yet.”
She tugs him back towards the school buildings.
“Wha—Y/N, what’re you doing?” He asks quietly, brows slightly furrowing as he follows along. Y/N huffs, “Akira, I know you’ve been skipping training! Iwaizumi and Oikawa told me!” She pouts up at him, making Kunimi’s heart stop a bit.
He lets out a breath, “Well… yeah. But it’s not like we have any practice games coming up, we already versed Kageyama’s team.” He walks beside her, squeezing her hand. Y/N slouches her shoulders, glancing up at him again.
“And you lost, remember? You promised me that you’d win next time.” She points out, turning the corner to the gym, “How are you supposed to win if you don’t train with your team?”
Kunimi bites his lip, running a hand down his neck. “You’re right. I’ll try to come to practice more often.” He tells her. Y/N stops on her tracks, making him do so as well. She crosses her arms and speaks, “I’ll be walking you to practice now. I don’t care how late or early, I’ll make sure you get there. Okay?”
Kunimi swiveled his head to the side. He softly said, “You always liked pushing me to do my best.” Y/N gives him a smile, pulling him into a hug. When his arms go around her shoulders, she exhales, “I love you, Akira.”
He feels his cheeks burn slightly at those words. The way her hands patted his back and her head was just pressed against the front of his shoulder. It all had him weak in the knees.
“I love you too. Thank you, I promise I’ll let you walk me to training from now on.” He calls, petting the top of her head. Y/N chuckles in return, lifting her head off of him, “Great. Now, get your ass in there. I’m sure your coach has some special training for you for the exercises you’ve missed.”
Kunimi groans, leaning his head down to her shoulder. Y/N kisses his cheek lightly. “I’ll text you when I get home. Make sure you do the same, okay Akira?”
“I will, Y/N.”
FUKURODANI:
Bokuto Koutarou (WING SPIKER):
“Left!” Bokuto shouts to his friend. Akaashi immediately sets the ball up to the captain. As he jumps up to spike the ball, the blockers do so in order to stop his attack. When they are successful, Komi dives in to save the ball. But it hits the floor.
Bokuto growls at his failed attack, Konoha patting his back to tell him that it was alright. As they went back into formation, the other team served. Komi brought it up into the air, Akaashi moving into his position.
Again, the captain shouts, “Left!” As Sarukui and Washio go in for a spike as well, the ball is set towards Bokuto. He bits his lip, bouncing up and hitting the ball with all his might.
But another time, the wall blocks him from it.
Y/N holds the fencing in anticipation. Her boyfriend was so stirred up already, having now three of his spikes being blocked by the other team so effortlessly. She knew just as well as Akaashi how Bokuto got when he was down in the dumps.
By now, he was letting the other Spikers and Middle Blockers call for the ball, only sometimes shouting out for a set. Although he did run up and jump, Y/N could see that it was only half-hearted. He was getting frustrated.
“Bokuto, don’t worry.” Akaashi says to him as the other team cheers for another point. It was now 19 - 21, in the other team’s favour. “We will get those points back.”
Bokuto furrows his brows, glaring at his hand. “Right. We have to win this.” He said. But the look in his eyes showed that he was still somewhat scared. Akaashi did the only thing he could do in that moment.
He looked towards the stands, eyes locking with Y/N’s. She stands straightly as she notices Akaashi’s silent call for help. The Setter points to Bokuto as the Spiker faces away from him. Akaashi makes a gesture with his hands, raising a brow at the girl.
She got the memo.
Y/N nodded her head, throwing him a thumbs up. Then, she yells, “Koutarou! You’re amazing!” The said male’s eyes trail to her in the crowd. Bokuto’s eyes widen at her, just like a few others standing beside her.
“Y/N?” He whispered to himself, Akaashi praying that he would snap out of it already.
There was a young girl, leaning over the spectator’s stand fencing, shouting at the top of her lungs. To anybody else, it would seem crazy. But to Fukurodani, it was just another tactic to get Bokuto back to his warm, energetic self.
If this didn’t work, nothing would.
“You can do it, Kouta’!” She tells him, “You can break through their wall! You’re spikes are incredible! I know you can do it, I love you!”
With the small speech of hers, Bokuto feels his heartbeat quicken. Y/N wasn’t one for flashy signs of affection, so this was pretty new. He faced her, puffing out his chest proudly with a wide smirk on his face.
“I will!” He states, “And I love you too, Y/N!” He gives her a thankful smile, nodding his head once before facing the net. His morale just shot up by 100%, all thanks to her.
The serve was up and Washio received it. Akaashi jumped up, ready to make his move when he hears a loud yell. “Bring it to me!” Bokuto announces, ready for a spike.
A certain glimmer in his eyes told Akaashi that he would get this one. The set was made and Bokuto smashed the ball right through the block, the sound of it hitting the floor echoing in his ears.
Akaashi looked over to Y/N as she cheered on her boyfriend. He mouthed a 'thank you’ before returning to the game. The rest of the team sent her a thumbs up or a praying motion as their thanks.
Bokuto was back to being himself. He was going to win this, for her.
"This is all your fault." Tsukishima growls, kneeling on the pavement as he picked up his glasses.
Y/N sat in front of him, hands on the ground near her knees. A small pout on her lips was shown, but Tsukki couldn't see that now.
"Well, I'm sorry, Kei, but you're the one who shoved yourself into me." She spoke, closing her fists on the floor, "I thought those glasses were meant to help you see better."
Tsukishima rolled his eyes as he felt the frames of his glasses. "Sorry, you were too short I just couldn't see you, Y/N." He claimed, making the girl in front of him scoff, cross her arms and look away from him.
Tsukishima was on his way home by himself. Yamaguchi was busy, saying he was going to go practice more float serves, so the tall blonde was left alone.
Y/N, on the other hand, was on her phone by the school entrance. Her father was texting her, asking her to pick up some vegetables for dinner tonight. She was replying as quickly as she could, asking if he needed any help cooking tonight when it happened.
Tsukishima was digging through his bag for something as he was walking when he suddenly clashed into her still figure, making his glasses drop from his face.
When they collided, Y/N's bag slid off from her shoulder and through her arm. Being unable to grab it, she had fallen back and allowed the bag to drop onto Tsukishima's glasses.
Just as he was about to curse at the person, Y/N was already doing so.
That led to here.
Y/N squinted at him, standing up and placing a hand in her pockets and bag around her shoulder. "Whatever you say, Kei." She sighed, "Are you okay, you walking tree?"
Tsukishima put on his glasses, blinking a few times before groaning loudly, "Shit. They're cracked bad, thanks to you." He glares as much as he could at the girl in front of him.
Y/N furrowed her brows, leaning forward and taking the glasses off of his face. He tried to grab them back, much missed incredibly, swiping at nothing but air.
"Didn't think you could be so careless, Kei." She sighed, examining the glasses herself, seeing that they were probably as bad as he said to be, "Oh well, you can be temporarily blind until you get home, right? I've got places to be."
She pulled a cloth from her pocket and wrapped the broken glasses in it. Then, she took his palm and placed the covered glasses in his grasp.
Tsukishima grunts, standing up again, "And how will I get back home without being able to see?" He grabbed it lightly and stood up.
Y/N crossed her arms again and tilted her head. "You don't have a spare?" She wondered, to which Tsukishima just rolled his eyes at.
"I didn't plan on breaking my glasses today, moron." He scowled back at her.
A thought drew into Y/N's mind. It wasn't completely her fault, but that didn't mean she was excused. No matter how much of an ass he was, some guilt would still be hung on her shoulders if she didn't help.
Y/N sighed, checking her phone for the time before glancing back at Tsukki, "Fine, I guess you're right. I'll help you get home, but that's it. No more. Deal?"
She stuck out a hand towards Tsukki, who stared warily at her blurry figure. Reluctanly, he groaned and held out his own hand, prompting Y/N to grab and shake it. He waited for her to let go, only for Y/N to tug him along.
"And what do you think you are doing, Y/N?" He question, grasping his bag tightly.
Y/N only looked both way on the street before crossing, making sure Tsukkishima was keeping up. "What, you think you can see clear enough to not need me to pull you everywhere?" She points out, passing other students who either glanced at them or fully ignored them.
Tsukki retorts with an irritated look, "I don't need you to hold my hand, I can see good enough to pick out even your figure." The comment makes Y/N grasp his hand tightly, making him wince that little bit.
She then slipped her hand out of his, continuing her walk whilst Tsukki stood still. "Well, if you can see that well, then you can go home by yourself, right?" She mocks, smiling as she heard him click his tongue.
"Smart-ass." He scowls, marching towards her and grabbing her hand.
She chuckled at his annoyance before continuing on. She hummed, "I just need to pick up a few things. We won't be too long." She waited at the next crossing with the others on their walk.
When the light turned green for them to cross, Tsukishima growled at her, "Why am I accompanying you on your errands, exactly? You said you'd take me home."
In return, Y/N shook her head and stared forward. She spoke out, "Yeah, I did say I'd take you back to your home. I never said straight away." She hears him scowl lowly. "And don't go complaining, without me you would still be at the school gates."
"Fine. Just make this quick." He warned her, "If I don't make it back by dark, Akiteru will go looking for me. That idiot." He glared at the floor, the only place he could be sure wouldn't cause any troubles if he looked at it.
Y/N stayed quiet for a short time. She kept walking, making sure to keep a little space in between her and Tsukki. But the silence was broken by her voice.
"You're brother is very nice." She spoke to him, Tsukki only raising a brow, "Akiteru can hold a conversation, more than you at least. Plus, when Tadashi and I came over last week to study, he was always giving us drinks and food. Plus, he's kinda' funny."
Tsukishima scoffed back, feeling her pull him to the side to avoid bumping into anyone, "You sound like you've got a crush on my older brother, Y/N."
In response, Y/N punches his arm and says, "What? Of course not! Akiteru's like... he's in college, y'know. We're both working hard in our studies and have absolutely no time for each other." Tsukki stared at her from the corner of his eye for a moment. "As if we'd even stand a chance, Kei." She waved her free hand dismissively then gripped her bag.
Tsukishima tilted his head down to her. "So you're saying that if he dropped out or when he graduates, you'd be free to date him?" He teases, having Y/N blush from embarrassment and punch his arm again.
"That's not what I meant at all!"
"Well, good for you." He chuckles at her, "As if Akiteru would court you anyway, or anyone like you."
Y/N growled, crossing her arms and unlatching their joined hands, "You can be such an asshole, you know that?" She kept walking, Tsukishima being sure to not fall behind.
He felt somewhat panicked when she let go. Not because he liked it or anything, no. Of course he hated holding her hand. He hated that way more than when Bokuto told him he sucked at volleyball. He absolutely despised the warm feeling of her palm against his. Definitely. No way he'd enjoy holding her hand again. Not at all.
Y/N slipped her hand in his again.
Tsukishima felt the corner of his lips tug up.
"The shop is over there, come on. If you keep draging your feet, we'll take way longer than necessary." She states, weaving through the crowds of people, "Can you just hold the basket for me?"
Tsukishima sighs out harshly, making sure she heard how irritated he was with the simple task. "Tch, this is a waste of time for me." He scowls.
Y/N ignores him, shoving a basket into his stomach before dragging him by his sleeve. She moved towards the vegetables, taking out the list her dad sent her.
"Okay, so according to dad..." She whispered, feeling Tsukishima tug her sleeve. Y/N glanced at his hand before taking his hand and walking down the aisle. She went on, "I need to get bok choy and bean sprouts first."
Tsukishima kept quiet, wandering where she led. He felt the basket in his hand grow heavier and heavier as they went on. Y/N was piling in the vegetables and such for dinner tonight, all the while murmuring to herself.
"Give me a second, I need to reach up there for the basil." She warned, letting go of his hand and moving closer to the shelf. On her toes, she reached as high as she could to the top shelf.
She cursed quietly to herself, "Damn it, why do they make the shelves so freaking high for?" One last reach and she landed on her heels with a groan.
"I told you this was a waste of my time." Tsukishima voiced, stepping towards her, "What is it? Basil?"
Without trying so hard, he grabbed the light bag of the vegetable and held it in front of her. "Is this it?" He mumbled back, making Y/N confirm it, "Good. Hurry up."
Y/N slouches her shoulders, grabbing his hand roughly and dragging him towards the cashier. "From Prince Charming to Normal Jack-Ass in a second. Of course." She murmurs.
Tsukishima shakes his head, placing the basket on the bench.
It had taken the two of them about 20 minutes to shop around. Tsukishima scowling at her that this was taking too long, Y/N constantly dragging him out of the way of customers, the two of them looking like idiots whilst trying to go different ways with linked hands. It was awful.
Y/N smiled at the cashier. "Good afternoon. Just these, please." She spoke in a soft voice Tsukishima had never heard her speak to him with.
The cashier continued to do his work as Tsukishima took out his phone from his bag. It was ringing, the words too blurry to read for him. As Y/N payed for her groceries, he answered.
"Hello?"
"Kei! It's Akiteru. Where are you?" Akiteru asked, sounding rushed, "Mum is asking if you suddenly had practice tonight. And we're starting to prepare dinner soon, so you know."
Y/N thanked the cashier and slipped her hand into Tsukishima's, making their way towards home. She looked up the the blonde as he continued to speak, "I understand. But no, I don't have practice. Coach Ukai said our next practice is on Friday."
"Ah, okay, I got it." Akiteru snaps his fingers. "So when did you think you'll be back?" He questions, looking over to his mother who was putting on her apron.
Tsukishima glanced around and saw the familiar buildings around. He then answered his older brother, "I'll be home in around 15 minutes or so. Tell Mum not to worry."
Akiteru sighed in relief, resting his rigid shoulders, "Oh thank God. She's making her classic soba, and I don't want to be the only one suffering in the kitchen when she tells me that I've cut the green onions too big." He let out a chuckle at the end to lighten the mood. Tsukishima only hummed.
Akiteru then placed a hand on his hip and asked, "So, what's taking you so long anyway? You're usually home as quick as possible after school."
Tsukishima rolled his eyes, glancing down at the girl who unsuspiciously looked away right in time. He replied, "I'm just with a friend."
Akiteru tilted his head with a confused expression. "Hm? Why is that?"
Tsukishima felt Y/N pull him to the left, prompting him to move towards that direction. "Right after school, we bumped into each other and she ended up breaking my glasses—"
"It wasn't just my fault—!"
"—And now she's taking me with her to run her errands." He finished, ignoring her deadly glare.
The older brother crossed his arm over his chest and inquired, "Oh, okay. So who is it that lead you to your misfortune?" Tsukishima could hear the smile on his older brother's face.
The blonde sighed out in irritation, "It was Y/N."
Akiteru stopped short before gasping, "Ooh, Y/N, huh? Can she hear me? Y/N-chan! Hey, it's Akiteru!" Tsukishima winces at the loud volume of his brother, annoyed by the people he was currently talking to.
Y/N pulled Tsukishima's arm down and talked back into the phone, "Hi, Akiteru!" Her tone was incredibly cheerful. Much to Tsukki's dismay.
Tsukishima pulled his arm up again, clicking his tongue at the girl before talking to his brother, "Is that all? I'm going to hang up now." He says blandly.
Akiteru then replies, "Yeah, okay. Just make sure to be nice to her, Kei."
Tsukishima grunts, "Fine. Bye." He hung up before Akiteru could respond.
Y/N pulled them around the corner and craned her neck to look up at him. "I'll drop you off first and then head home. Okay?" She told him, to which he nods his head.
She texted her dad, saying she might be a few minutes late. He had replied saying that he didn't mind since he would make the dinner planned tonight for tomorrow. He ended up going to an appointment he forgot about, so he trusted Y/N would be safe.
When her eyes lifted from her phone, she realised they were now walking all alone on the path to Tsukki's house. Nobody was around, the only sound being the bird and the occasional car driving by.
"I—um..." She stammers out, surprising the blonde a little, "I'm sorry, Kei. A—About your glasses."
Tsukishima raised a brow at her unrefined form. "And you pay me back by stringing me along to do your chores. Thank you so much." He taunts, making the girl grip harder on his hand.
Y/N looks away, an embarrassed reddening appearing on her face. "Well, sorry, but I'm not changing my plans for you just yet, Kei." She stated, turning left on the corner with the park.
Tsukishima then scoffed back, "Oh? 'Yet', huh? So you're planning to change something for me?"
"That's not what I said!"
"Oh, but that's what you implied." He answers back, a smile on his lips as she began arguing against it.
She sighed out, looking around as she held onto her school bag, "We should be close to your house now."
"Okay." He said back, making sure not to swing her bag of groceries too much in his grasp. Last thing he wanted was for the bag to break and everything falling out.
It was only a few more minutes until they made it to his house. Y/N knocked on the door, waiting patiently for someone to open up. Akiteru and their mother was home, so they should be fine with opening the door.
The door swung open, Tsukishima's older brother smiling widely at the two. "Y/N! How nice to see you again, how have you been?" He questions, moving out of the way to let them in.
As she tugged Tsukishima inside, Y/N replies, "Oh, I'm good, thanks. And how about you, Akiteru?"
She took off her shoes, putting on the slippers she would always use when she'd come over. She helped Tsukishima sit down as Akiteru said he had to go back to the kitchen.
After getting his own slipper on, Tsukishima spoke to the shorter girl, "To my room." He held out his hand, expecting the girl to take hold of it.
"Can't you find your way around the house you've been living in for 16 years?" She asked, raising a brow.
Tsukki groaned out, looking annoyed with her, "I'd rather not break all my mother's valuables. Come on." He reaches out his hand again, prompting Y/N to roll her eyes and take his hand, moving towards Tsukishima's room.
"Still have those dinosaurs?"
"Shut up."
Y/N ended up leaving Tsukki to change in his room. On the way to the door, she passed the kitchen. Tsukishima's mother had stopped her and now brought her in to talk. Akiteru had joined in, changing the short chat to a long one.
Y/N had spent about 15 minutes talking with the two of them, not minding that much. They were nice and she liked how easily she could talk to them. The thing that pulled her out of her thoughts and coversation was when she felt a tug on her blazer.
Turning around, she saw Tsukishima's han holding the material. Without a second thought, Y/N mindlessly slipped her fingers through his and held onto his hand.
"Oh!" Tsukishima's mother gasped, "When did that happen?"
Y/N furrowed her brows, looking towards her with a tilted expression. What did she do wrong? She was holding Tsukki's hand to help navigate him whilst he was blind. What was so bad?
"I have my glasses on, Y/N." Tsukki's monotone voice arose.
Y/N shot a glance up to his pretty face, seeing that he did in fact have his glasses replaced. Which only made matters worse.
Quickly, she slid her hand out of Tsukishima's and moved back, bumping into the chair and moving the table a bit. Akiteru and Tsukishima's mother widened their eyes, asking if she was okay.
"I—I'm sorry, I'm fine. I was just, um..." She mumbles, staring at the floor. She felt embarrassed by what she did, even if the other three didn't make a big deal out of it.
"Well, would you like to stay for dinner?" Akiteru asks nicely, clapping his hands together, "We certainly made enough."
Y/N widens her eyes at the offer. She didn't have any homework or anything to do after school so she could. The girl looked up to Tsukki, as if to ask him what she should do.
The blonde boy raised a brow at her. He questioned, "What are you looking at me for? It's a 'yes' or 'no' answer."
Y/N looked back at the adults, nodding her head slowly before smiling and thanking them for their time. Akiteru had allowed Tsukki to keep her company, as they would finish up. When Tsukki pointed out how his brother said he needed as much help, Akiteru waved it off and told him to go hang out with the girl.
The two of them were currently outside, Y/N holding a volleyball in her hand as Tsukki sat down. She didn't play much, but Yamaguchi had taught her a few things. She was receiving the ball over and over again as Tsukki watched her.
"Do you just like holding my hand or something?" Tsukki finally asked.
Y/N had stopped, the ball hitting the side of her arm and making it bounce away. She chased after the ball, picking it up before speaking out, "It was an accident."
Tsukishima rolled his eyes. "That doesn't answer my question." He claims, leaning forward as Y/N came towards him and sat beside him.
"I mean..." She whispered, holding the ball on her lap, "If I, uh, said 'yes' would that be weird?" She looked up at Tsukki, who just held an indifferent face.
He rubbed the back of his neck, looking at the ground. He retorts, "You'd be an idiot if you thought I didn't notice." He watches as Y/N cheeks redden.
She folds her arms over the volleyball in her lap and buries her head into her sleeves. "Ugh, stop tormenting me, Kei... It's bad enough that I just embarrassed myself in front of your family..." She told him, heart pacing fast.
Tsukki didn't say anything else. He watched her shoulders slouch and her arms stretch out towards the grass. Her hair fell over her shoulders and her eyes were casted on her fingers. With her chin on the ball, Tsukki could only see a bit of her face.
She looked far too cute right now.
That didn't stop him from landing a kiss on her cheek.
Y/N jumped up, holding her breath as her fingers instinctively went to where he kissed her. The ball dropped from her lap, rolling away as the two stared at each other. She cheeks were still as red as before, but this time her lips were parted. "Kei..."
"I like you." He says bluntly, hand against the hardwood he was sitting on, "You can be so oblivious sometimes."
Y/N immediately clenched her fists, facing him fully as she argued, "How was I oblivious? You—You didn't even attempt to make it obvious to me!"
Tsukishima raised her brow, fixing his glasses as he told her, "You really think the only reason I got you to hold my hand was to lead me home? If I were with someone I considered a friend, I would've held onto their bag or shoulder or something."
Y/N clenched her jaw, gulping as she silently agreed with what he was saying. Man, was she that oblivious?
"None of that matters anyway." Tsukki said to her, waving his hand, "I just... Do you want to go out on Saturday?"
Y/N noticed how Tsukishima looked at her with his brows slightly turned up. He wasn't angry or irritated, more like nervous. Tsukki didn't really want to be rejected at his own home.
"I'd love to." She replied, unable to stop the smile drawing on her lips.
Tsukki nodded his head slowly, looking away. If he held anymore eye contact, guaranteed he would've blown up in blushes at her smiling face. "Good. Then we can go to the cafe a few blocks from school." He told her.
Y/N stared at him for a few seconds. Was he always this timid around her?
The girl smiled to herself at the thought. Maybe he was and she was too busy getting teased by him to notice it. She should be more attentive, huh?
As smoothly as she could, Y/N slid her hand into his and leaned her head against his shoulder. "Thank you, Kei." She said to him, playing with his hand with her free one, drawing crescent moons on his outer palm.
"Whatever." He said back as she lean off of him and sent him another smile. Tsukki bit the inside of his cheek, taking a deep breath in as he slightly turned his body towards her.
She didn't even get a chance to think when Tsukishima planted his lips onto hers. She make a small noise, shocking her for a moment. It wasn't until he rested his other hand on her cheek that she broke free from her trance.
Y/N kissed back as soon as she'd come to realise the situation. Her other hand instinctively went to his one on her cheek, laying against it as she closed her eyes. She could hear her heart beating in her chest when a second or two passed. But she didn't mind it at all.
Tsukishima pulled away, his glasses tilted on his face and his cheeks flushed deep red. His brows were creased as if he wanted more but needed to hold back. And he knew he wanted more. Needless to say, he was kinda' hot.
"Are you glad I broke your glasses now?" Y/N joked, brushing her thumb against his wrist.
Tsukishima rolled his eyes and said bsck, leaning his forehead against hers. "You need to shut up." He stated, staring at her gorgeous E/C eyes.
She giggled at him, eyes softening at the sight of him. Who would've known it'd end up like this?
"So, the soba is ready."
Y/N and Tsukki jumped back from each other, scared faces as they looked behind them. There stood Akiteru, leaning against the open doorway staring at the two of them.
Tsukki fixed his glasses and cleared his throat, "How long have you been standing there?" He glared deadly at his older brother.
Akiteru thought for a moment before replying, "The first thing I heard is that you're going on a date at the cafe a few blocks from Karasuno." Tsukishima thinned his lips. "Also, I'd recommend the brownie sundaes, they're to die for."
Y/N played with her blazer as Tsukishima told his brother to leave and that they'd be there soon. As Akiteru left, not before bidding the two 'good luvk' on their date, Tsukishima wiped his face. "Sorry about that."
"No, no, it's fine." Y/N said, waving her hands, "He's just teasing."
Tsukishima stood up, holding out a hand to her. Y/N took it, standing up and staring at the blonde. He did the exact same, knowing that Y/N would be doing it too.
He leant down and pressed a quick kiss to her lips again. "You want to eat now?" He asked, nodding his head to the house.
“Where’s L/N?” Daichi asked the vice captain as they exited the gym in front of everyone else.
Sugawara tugged his bag and replied, “Oh, she texted me that she went ahead with Coach Ukai for something. She’ll meet us on the way.” He was only a tad worried, usually she would be at practice with him and then walk home with the rest of the boys.
Asahi scratched his cheek, tilting his head as he murmured, “Isn’t it a bit late for her to be walking by herself? I mean, Coach Ukai has the shop to look after, right?”
Nishinoya beside him slapped his back and grumbled, “Hey, don’t say that to Suga! You’ll give him a heart attack!” That made Asahi fumble with his words, claiming that it wasn’t his intention. Sugawara had to reassure him that it was alright.
The team went on with walking, jokes thrown around and having to stop Tsukishima and Kageyama from tussling around on the street.
“Hey, look! It’s L/N-san!” Tanaka chimes pointing behind the boys in front of him.
It was a few minutes after practice and it was already so dark. Y/N stood outside the small convenient store that was run by Ukai. He got to his store earlier than the boys because they needed to tidy up and change before leaving.
Y/N turned to the team, holding a bag near her hip. A smile dawned on her face as she saw them, her eyes landing on Sugawara’s almost immediately. “Oh, hey guys. What great timing, I was waiting.” She states as they stop, Y/N jogging over to them.
Sugawara walked up to her and kissed her forehead as Daichi and Asahi greet the fellow Third Year. Tanaka and Nishinoya excitedly jumped to her side with compliments, Ennoshita having to hold them back with Narita and Kinoshita giggling behind them. Hinata and Yamaguchi happily said ‘hi’ whilst Kageyama nodded politely and Tsukishima didn’t bother doing anything.
Y/N began to hand out some meat buns to each of the team members. “I bought one for everyone, so enjoy!” She says before taking the last one for herself and biting into it.
The team thanked her on Daichi’s orders, making her wave her free hand and say that it was no big deal.
As they continued to walk and go their separate ways, Y/N felt a hand slide into hers. She looked up to see Sugawara smiling a bit with pink cheeks.
“Sorry, it’s just that it’s a little cold.” He says, moving closer to her. “Your hands are always really warm, so…”
It was cold, but in truth he was just ecstatic to see her. At least he had set in his mind that she was now okay. Not that Ukai was incapable of looking after her, but Sugawara would rather it be himself to make sure of it.
Y/N giggled, swinging their hands a little, “Aw, you’re adorable, Koushi.” She pulls him down slighting, giving a kiss to his heated cheeks. As she pulled away, Sugawara’s smile grew.
“I love you, Y/N.” He spoke, making the girl’s eyes grow wider. Those words left his mouth so easily, as if waiting for the right moment to say them. That gave Y/N’s heart a slight jump.
“Y/N?” He mumbles, leaning down a bit and stopping their steps. She hadn’t answered in about seven seconds and it worried him a bit. Was it too early for this? Did he just mess up?
He gulps, “U—Um… I’m sorry, that was so unexpected, I should've—should’ve given you a bit more—”
Sugawara is interrupted when Y/N jumps up, wrapping her arms around his neck and nuzzling her face into the base of his neck too. Sugawara gasped, stepping back a bit to steady their bodies as his arms went around her waist.
“Y/N?”
“I love you too!” She mumbles into his neck, tightening her grip on him. Sugawara lets out a low chuckle, feeling her kiss his cheek over and over again.
If this was the reaction he got for telling Y/N he loves her, then he’ll be sure to say it more often.
Nishinoya Yuu (LIBERO):
“Nishinoya?” The orange-haired Middle Blocker called, “What’re you looking at?” He peered over the Libero’s shoulder to see his phone.
Nishinoya retorts, “Look at this, Hinata. I found it this morning.” He shows him the video on his screen. It was of someone telling their girlfriend that they loved her. The girl’s reaction was filled with blushing, stuttering and all-round lovey-dovey-ness.
“Woah, are you gonna’ try that on L/N?” Hinata asked, pointing at the screen.
Nishinoya shrugged his shoulders, stuffing his phone away into his pocket. He answers, “Well, duh, of course I’m gonna’ try. Y/N-chan’s face is going to look so cute!”
As if on cue, Y/N walked around the corner towards them with Kiyoko, deep in conversation as the boys stared at them. Nishinoya grinned widely, handing Hinata his phone and telling him to record it. He wanted to show the team his adorable girlfriend.
Kiyoko looked behind Y/N, seeing the Libero coming closer with Hinata close in tow. “I’ll talk to you later, L/N. It seems you’ll be busy.” She says, waving ‘goodbye’. Y/N tilts her head before turning around in time to see her boyfriend and friend bouncing towards her.
Her boyfriend giggled, “Hello, my lovely, beautiful little Doll-face!”
Y/N giggled, rubbing her neck as she looked at him, “'Little’? Yuu, we’re about the same height—”
“I'n cutting that out.” Nishinoya grumbled to himself, Hinata nodding his head behind the camera.
Nishinoya shook his head before clapping his hands together. That caught Y/N’s attention again. Suddenly, Nishinoya shouted, “L/N Y/N! I have something to tell you!”
The said girl steps forward as he takes her hand and pulls her to him. Taking in a breath, Nishinoya calls out, “I just want you to know… I love you so much, Doll-face!“
Hinata and Nishinoya waited in anticipation. Y/N blinked about three times before a smile broke out on her lips. She giggled slightly, hand on her cheek as Nishinoya tilted his head, “Aw, I love you too, Babe. Thank you for telling me.”
Nishinoya’s jaw dropped, his breathing hitched upon hearing those words. He didn’t think her voice could become anymore charming, but here he stood, wrong.
“Are you okay?” Y/N mumbled, pushing a strand of hair away from her face. The Libero gulps, nodding his head as he stuttered out a reply.
It was meant to be Y/N who was stammering and blushing so hard, she’d pass out. But Nishinoya knew it himself that he was in that spot now. How could Y/N be so relaxed from hearing that when he was already on edge?
Y/N smiles at his reaction. She leans forward and kisses his lips, hands on his shoulders as his cheeks blew up in red. He holds her waist, kissing back finally.
Hinata clears his throat, making the two separate, “Uh… um, did it work, Nishinoya?”
Kageyama Tobio (SETTER):
The sound of the ball hitting the net makes Kageyama grunt. That was the third time today that he’s flunked his serve, and he’s only attempted eight. Two of them were out and only one was successful.
The match against Aoba Johsai was haunting him. The look Oikawa gave him when Karasuno lost was scarring. Now that he was by himself and practicing, he seemed to have decreased his effectiveness is serves. Hinata had to go home early to help his sister so he couldn’t practice sets just yet. Plus, he didn’t want to set when his serves were off.
He needed to get better.
The volleyball hits just outside the line.
“Need some water?” Y/N calls from the entrance. Kageyama turned his head, out of breath from the jumping and running to get the ball. He scanned her, seeing that she just got out of class for lunch since she had her bag with her.
Kageyama ducks under the net and mumbles, “No, thank you.” As he retrieves the ball, he hears Y/N put her bag down and walk over to him. She wore a blank look.
A little sigh left her. “Is there anything I can do, Tobio?” She inquires, playing with her sleeves, “Y'know, even if it isn’t about volleyball?”
Kageyama stares down at the ball in hand. He brushed his thumb against it before looking back at her. He couldn’t deny that there was something she could do.
He faced her finally, rubbing the side of his neck. He huffed, “Yeah, uh… I think we should take a little break.”
The look on her face showed that she definitely didn’t expect that. Slightly raised brows and dropped jaw, her grip on her sleeves loosening. She takes a moment before clearing her throat, “Oh… did I, uh, did I do something?”
Kageyama drops the ball, taking a step to her and placing his hands on her shoulders.
“No, it’s not that.” He informs her, “Volleyball has me so… so freaking frustrated and I just don’t want to take it all out on you. I’d hate myself if we broke up because of that, so… I think with just a bit of time, I can come back to you.”
Y/N slowly gulps, blinking a few times at him. Kageyama holds his breath.
“Do you understand?”
He didn’t expect Y/N to smile back so quickly. She tilted her head and said, “Of course. You need to do your best anyway. Just tell me when you’re ready, or if you need a little longer, okay?” She gave a small nod as Kageyama agreed.
She turned around, grabbing her bag and heading to the exit. “Lunch is almost over, so I guess I’ll see you around, To—… Kageyama.” She hummed, holding onto the door. She could feel the small tears pricking her eyes.
It wasn’t like they were breaking up officially. It was just a little break.
He bit down on his lip. He hasn’t been called that by her in about three months. It sounded foreign in her voice.
Y/N turned to leave, but she stopped herself. Looking over her shoulder to Kageyama, she grinned again and spoke, “I love you.”
She then left, a very confused Setter behind her. He had just asked for a break, usually that’d mean all love-like stuff would end until further notoce. Could she not wait any longer?
Kageyama picked up the volleyball. He held up the ball and tossed it into the air. He runs up and as he jumps, those words echo in his head. Her voice saying ‘I love you’.
He hits the ball, the serve landing directly where he wanted it to. He didn’t miss.
“Shit.”
Next thing he knows is that he’s following Y/N back to her class. She was walking relatively slow, hand rubbing her shoulder as she stared at the ground. When he realised what he was doing, he didn’t stop his running.
He couldn’t leave her like that.
Hearing the loud, rushed footsteps, Y/N turns around to see Kageyama a second away. Before she could say his name, Kageyama engulfs her in a giant hug, making Y/N lose her footing and fall back.
She lands on her behind, knees arched at Kageyama’s folded legs as he held her tighter. Her arms go under his and around his shoulders, stopping her back from hitting the dirt.
“Tobio, what’re you doing?” She mumbles into his chest as she copies his sitting position, only for Kageyama to hug her tighter into him. A kiss lands on her lips.
He states, “Forget about the break, that was stupid, I don’t want a break from you.”
Y/N smiles, running a hand through his dark hair.
“It’s okay, Tobio.” She tells him, Kageyama hiding his face in her shoulder again.
“I love you too, Y/N.” He says, the words making the girl giggle a little bit.
NEKOMA:
Yaku Morisuke (LIBERO):
Yaku pinches the bridge of his nose in annoyance. “Lev, for the last time, bend your knees some more and don’t lean forward so much.” He says. The First Year nods his head as he gets into position again, trying to do what Yaku had told him.
But he was hopeless.
Lev was still in the wrong position and his receives were off, flying everywhere but where Yaku told him to aim them at. It was giving the Libero gray hairs just watching him. He has gone through this exercise many times.
“Okay!” He growls, “Y'know what? Take a five-minute break. After that, we’re doing 25 good receives before you get to hit any of Kenma’s sets in practice.” Yaku began to walk over to his drink bottle as Lev whined out to him.
Y/N sat on the sidelines, kind of enjoying the show. She giggled as Yaku shook his head and sat down beside her, “Looks like you’re having a great time, Mori’.”
She passes him his bottle and watches as Lev tried to convince Kuroo to let him switch to spiking practice. It looked like the captain wasn’t letting up though, hand on his hip and his head shaking. Lev almost cried.
Yaku grunted, spinning the cap of his water bottle, “Ugh, he’s going to kill me before the end of the year. Or I might just kill him.”
Y/N lightly slapped his arm, even though she knew it was a joke she could hear some truth in it.
He takes a sip as Y/N looks back to him. He argues, “I don’t get it, everyone else I help with defense is so quick to learn, but Lev is just…” Y/N can see the distress on his face.
He sighs and wipes his face, “He has a one-track mind, and it’s on spiking. Nothing else.” Y/N nodded her head as she listened to her boyfriend rant on about his teammate.
Yaku turns to her fully, legs now on both sides of the bench. He furrowed his brows and groaned, “Y'know what he said to me? He’s like, 'why should I learn this? I’m so far from the ground I can just spike all our points instead of receiving. That’s why we have short players like you who can barely reach the net’.”
Y/N had to hold in a laugh as Yaku went on about how irritating Lev was being about the Libero’s height.
She grinned softly, placing a hand on his and trying to make him feel a little relaxed. Yaku felt his pulse speed up.
“Hey, you know you can do it, Mori’.” She encourages, holding up a fist for more emphasis, “You’re a great teacher when it comes to volleyball. Your team practically prides themselves on how quick and flexible your defense is.”
She points out, her head leaning to the right a bit, “I doubt you’ll let Lev bring that down, right? And you’re strong enough to pull the weight too!”
Yaku sheepishly scratches his neck with a nervous smile. “W—Well I don’t know about that, there’s other pretty amazing Liberos out there…” He mumbles quietly.
Y/N gasps with a hand on her chest in fake surprise, “Does my boyfriend not think he’s an incredible Libero?”
He chuckles, now staring at his knees. “Thanks, Y/N. I love you, y'know that?” The girl beside him gives a wider smile, face slightly tinted pink.
“I love you too, Mori’.” She chimes sweetly.
“Yaku, Lev said he shouldn’t be taught by a munchkin.” Kuroo interrupts. Lev got kicked in the gut and had to 100 good receives until the next break.
Kozume Kenma (SETTER):
“Kenma,” Kuroo nudged the setter. “I think Y/N is kind of tired now.” He points over to the bench where Kenma’s girlfriend was fast asleep, laying on Kiyoko’s lap as her and Yachi kept talking about the volleyball teams.
Y/N was wearing Kenma’s jacket, the bottom of it reaching about her knees. She was on her side, her face towards Nekoma and Karasuno as the teams wrapped up the day with some quick training.
The setter smiled to himself before feeling another nudge to his shoulder.
Kuroo chuckled, “You might want to take her to bed. She’s been up since 6:30 and it’s like, 10 now.” He crossed his arms and watched Kenma nod his head and walk towards her.
“Ah, young love.”
Kenma kneeled down in front of Y/N, quietly thanking Kiyoko for allowing her some sleep. He placed a hand on Y/N’s shoulder and gently shook her. “Y/N… Wake up, please, I’m going to bring you to your room so you can rest easier.” He claims.
The girl slowly opened her eyes, wiping them as she saw the bright light of the gym. She lifted her bead off of Kiyoko and hummed, “Kenma? What—What time is it?”
She thanked Kiyoko and bid the two Karasuno managers a good night as they left. She sat straight up, Kenma beside her with an arm around her so she wouldn’t fall. “It’s pretty late.”
Y/N gives a small noise to let him know she heard as she leaned her head against his shoulder. Kenma peered down at her for a second, realising that she was just about to go back to sleep.
Quickly thinking, he standing in front of her, slightly bending his knees. “Here, Y/N.” He says, “I’ll carry you back. If you want.”
Usually, this would be very uncharacteristic of Kenma, but ever since they began dating, he has shown more of a caring side than a distant one.
He hears the girl quietly yawn before leaning onto his back, arms around his neck and legs around his waist as her head hid in the crook of his neck.
Kenma begins to walk towards the exit, but not before Kuroo, Lev and Hinata give him a smile and a thumbs up. They all had their own ideas.
As he walked down the path, Kenma felt Y/N shift and hum quietly. It made him smile to himself, feeling her warm breath on his neck. It was so cute how relaxed she was with him.
The wind blew through his hair as he tightening his grip on Y/N’s under knees. The steps he took were the only things he could hear other than the mumbling Y/N did in her sleep.
One glance around the two is all Kenma had to do before he muttered out, “I love you, Y/N.”
It was about three seconds of quietness and he breathed out, a bit relieved that nobody had heard him. He only wanted Y/N to hear, as those words meant a lot.
“Hm… I love you too, Ken—ma…” Y/N spoke into his skin, pressing a tired kiss to his keep.
Kenma froze, stopping his movements with a dropped jaw. He couldn’t deny the evident red dusted on his face. How come he didn’t know she was awake?
“Were you just waiting for me to speak, Y/N?” He asks as he begins his way to her room again. But all he’s met with is her soft breathing again. She’s fallen asleep.
He sighs a bit before turning his gaze to the side and presses a small kiss to the side of her head.
AOBA JOHSAI:
Oikawa Tooru (SETTER):
“Oikawa-san!” A crowd of voices call from the entrance of the gym. Oikawa turn his head, smiling at the group of fans waiting for him as he walked closer. With a wave of his hand, he made the group swoon.
“Oh, hey! What’re you all doing here?” He asks with an endearing voice. The students in front of him began to stutter out responses with evident blushes.
Oikawa chuckles back, “Aw, it’s so sweet that you all wanted to greet me before practice. Thank you so much!” Another wide grin gives them all heart attacks.
He laughed at their response before hearing two familiar voices.
“Iwaizumi, I don’t know. Will it be okay if I come to your mother’s birthday party?” Y/N asks, scratching the back of her neck with an anxious smile.
Oikawa stares at his girlfriend and best friend who were approaching him without their knowing.
Iwaizumi waves his hand and scoffs, “Oh please. My parents love you, they’ll be fine with it.” He peers down at the girl walking beside him, telling him that she would attend the get-together.
“Hm, what do I wear? You said it’s being held at a kind of formal restaurant thingy right?” She asks, fixing her skirt as her gaze fixated on the floor. Oikawa squinted his eyes at the both of them.
Iwaizumi thought for a second before replying, “What about that F/N dress that goes to your knees? Y'know, the one with the nice lace that goes around your back and your shoulders.”
Oikawa furrowed his brows with thinned lips. He loved that dress on Y/N. It always made him blush deep red.
Y/N scratches her arm with a small grin. “Um… I don’t know, it’s been a while since I’ve worn it. I don’t know if I’ll look good in it.”
Iwaizumi rolled his eyes playfully with a smirk. “You look good in everything, L/N.”
The was the last straw for Oikawa.
“HEY IWA-CHAN!” He yelled, ignoring the comments and stares of his fans. He stomped towards the duo that had only now noticed him. “ARE YOU TRYING TO STEAL MY PRINCESS?”
Y/N widened her eyes with heated cheeks, lifting her shoulders as Iwaizumi rolled his eyes again, but this time with annoyance. He grunts, “Oh shut up, Shitty-kawa. I’m not stealing anyone from you, idiot.”
Oikawa squinted his eyes again and grabbed Y/N’s arm, pulling her into his embrace with her face in his chest. He retorts, “Don’t go trying things on my Princess, I love her and she’s mine! Go find yourself a girlfriend and invite her to your mother’s birthday party!”
Y/N gripped the back of his blue and white jacket, tilting her head up to see Oikawa still glaring at his Ace.
Iwaizumi turns his head as he walks passed them. “You freaking moron. L/N’s a friend and my mother asked me to invite the both of you. Dumbass.” He spoke, heading into the gym and passing the crowd of shocked Oikawa fans.
Y/N gave a light tug on her boyfriend’s jacket, making Oikawa turn his eyes downward to her. “Tooru…?”
He looked very pissed, which made her a bit curious instead of scared. This was a new look on him that he’s ever dared to face towards Y/N.
But then he began whining.
“Princess! Why are you spending so much time with Iwa-chan? Don’t you love me?” He asked her, eyes now closed with a pout.
Y/N slides her arms out from around his waist and under his arm so she could place her palms gently on his neck. “Tooru, of course I love you! I just walk with Iwaizumi because we’re in the same class. You don’t need to get so jealous, Pretty Boy.”
Oikawa smiled at her words, leaning down and pressing a light kiss on her lips. “Good. By the way, I have the perfect shirt to match your beautiful dress, Princess.”
FUKURODANI:
Akaashi Keiji (SETTER):
“We’re up against Seijoh next, right?” Bokuto asks Akaashi as they zipped their jackets down. The setter nods his head, looking across the court to the white and blue team.
Y/N, who was holding the drink bottle basket, walks up to them with a smile. “You guys are gonna’ win this no problem. Right, Bokuto?” She hums, giving a thumbs up.
Akaashi softly smiles as the two of them cheering Fukurodani on. Lifting a hand, he ruffles Y/N’s hair and says, “We’re going to begin warm-ups now. Do you mind helping us?”
The H/C-haired girl nods her head, walking to the coach to grab the jerseys.
A few minutes past and everybody was now in uniform, hitting spikes and setting up. Akaashi had kept a close eye on Y/N, taking a spare second to peer at her once he set the ball to the upcoming Spiker. She was retrieving the ball and bringing them back to their side of the net.
Suddenly, a ball from Seijoh’s side had bounced over to where Y/N was standing on Fukurodani’s sidelines. She turned to the brightly coloured ball and picked it up.
“Oh hey! Thank you for grabbing the ball, that was my fault!” Yahaba chimed, flashing a large smile to one of Fukurodani’s Second Years. Y/N tilted her head once the light-haired boy with swishy hair approached her.
“That would be mine, pretty girl.” Yahaba spoke, rubbing the back of his neck as he continued his 'technique’ to swoon the girls, “Sorry.”
Y/N turned the ball in her hand as she felt the fabric of it. “It’s okay.”
Yahaba smirked. “I’ll just take that from you.” He spoke, hand out for her to give him the ball, “And how about your number to go along with it?”
Before Y/N could even reject him, a presence comes up from behind her. A hand grabs the volleyball in her hands and lifts it towards Yahaba, who steps back with a gulp.
“Just the ball.” Akaashi says, dropping the object into Yahaba’s hands, “You won’t need her number. She won’t pick up.”
Yahaba sucks in his breath and grips the ball tightly in his palms. “R—Right… I, um, better get to practice…” He spoke, running back to Oikawa and Iwaizumi who were watching the whole exchange.
The Setter takes Y/N’s hand and tugs her along with him. Y/N quickens her steps, now up to pace with her boyfriend. She could see the small irritated look on his face. His brows were turned more down and his jaw was tense.
“Thank you, Keiji.” She hums, when they stop walking, “I think you scared him a bit more than I thought you would.” Y/N grips his jersey and pulls him down, a kiss landing on his lips. It made his cheeks slightly pink.
“It doesn’t matter. I love you too much just to let somebody else take you away from me.” Akaashi states, gripping her hand a little tighter.
Y/N giggles back, clapping her hands together, “I love you too, Keiji! Now go back to warm-ups, I want to see you destroy Seijoh with your awesome sets!” She sends him a warm smile and walks back to the sidelines, closer to the coach and further from the opponent.
Akaashi smiled to himself. She always knew what to say.
Characters: Kuroo Tetsurou, Kai Nobuyuki, Yaku Morisuke, Kozume Kenma, Yamamoto Taketora, Inouka Suo, Haiba Lev, Bokuto Koutarou, Akaashi Keiji
NEKOMA:
Kuroo Tetsurou:
The first date was the first impression.
So imagine what Y/N was thinking when the two of their hands were suddenly clasped together in between them.
He had the idea of taking her to see a movie, and because he had seen this work so many times in rom-coms, Kuroo chose a horror movie.
But what he didn't expect was for Y/N to be the calm and collected one. She was fine during the movie. When Kuroo bought the tickets, she had gasped in excitement and pointed how she loved the director and their past works.
That made him a bit nervous. He never watched any of this director's films. But by the way Y/N had described it, they did a good job on setting the scene for horror movies.
So here he sat, one hand on his face as he only opened one eye to watch the movie. Y/N was beside him, munching in popcorn with ease as her eyes were drawn to the screen. Compared to him, she was relaxed as could be.
She noticed him jump a bit at the loud scare. But he covered his face and closed his eyes, trying to calm his nerves and remain cool in front of Y/N. She had caught on, turning her head slightly to him.
"Tetsu'? Are you okay?" She whispered as the main character hid inside the cupboard.
He nodded his head slowly, taking a sip of his drink. "I'm-I'm fine, no need to worry about me-" He was cut off by the loud screech of the main character, making him jump again with a little gasp.
Y/N furrowed her brows before letting out a chuckle, "Maybe we shouldn't have picked his movie to watch."
"I'm fine." He says again, giving a half-smile. He looked otherwise.
She shook her head, moving her hand to slip into Kuroo's. She leaned against him a bit, sipping from her drink as she squeezed his hand.
Kuroo's attention was now all on her. He didn't even realise the next jump scare, just sneakily staring down at their joined hands. He slowly brushed his thumb against her palm, breathing out and leaning his head against hers.
"Scaredy cat." She mumbled, making him roll his eyes.
Kai Nobuyuki:
"'Yuki, I have no idea where the food court is." Y/N told him over the phone, worried standing inside the mall, at a random shop she had stopped in front of.
The two of them were going on a date but had agreed to meet at the mall first before going to the location of the actual date. Y/N didn't think much of it until she arrived, realising that she didn't know where the meet-up place was exactly.
Kai was already at the food court, leaning against the wall. He held his phone close to his ear and asked, "Which entrance did you come from?"
Y/N looked around. "Um... The one near the hair salon. I'm front of this spa thingy." She informed her boyfriend.
"Okay, I'll come get you." Kai stated, already making his way in the direction of where she was, "Don't move, I'll only take a few minutes."
Y/N nodded her head, then lifting her shoulders and saying out loud, "Right, I won't. Thank you, Nobuyuki. Sorry about this."
Kai waved his hand out, continuing to walk passed some people as he chuckled, "No, it's fine. I'll see you in a few."
"Okay. Bye." She hung up, putting her phone away. She had no idea which way Kai would be coming from. She bit her lip, holding tightly to her bag as she waited.
Other people would by her, giving her a glance. One of the employees from the spa had asked her if she was waiting for her appointment, but Y/N shook her head and said she was waiting for somebody here.
It was awkward just standing there for a while. Until someone came up from the side and tapped her shoulder. She jumped, turning around immediately to be met with a smile.
"Are you okay?" Kai asked, tilting his head.
Y/N let out a sigh of relief, dragging her arms around him and hugging tightly, "Thank God, the suspense was killing me..."
Kai laughed, interlacing their fingers. Y/N was going to say something, suddenly stopped at the gesture. She kept looking at their hands, as if it was foreign to her to be holding hands.
He told her, watching her eyes stare at him, "This way, I can guide you."
Yaku Morisuke:
"Was it a good idea to let Y/N interact with the others?" Kuroo questioned his fellow Third Year, watching as Y/N talked with Hinata and Inouka, joining in with their jumpy conversation.
Yaku glanced at her, seeing her laugh at the both of them. "I mean, she seems to be fine by herself." Yaku said with a shrug of his shoulder, "What's got you so worried?"
Kuroo pointed to the girl again. "Bokuto just asked her to receive his spikes."
"He what?" Yaku gasped, turning around to see Bokuto pulling Akaashi to set for him. He dropped his jaw as Y/N resumed her positon, mirroring exactly how Yaku did.
Kuroo hummed, "That looks a lot like you, doesn't it?"
Yaku shook his head, escaping the trance as he muttered, "Bokuto's going to kill her."
Kuroo crossed his arms over his chest and chuckled, head to the side, "I thought she could handle herself. That's what you said, isn't it, Yaku?"
The Libero glared at the captain, pointing to the orange-haired Middle Blocker. He stated, "Bokuto gave Hinata a blood nose."
"Shrimpy can't receive." Kuroo points out waving his hand, "Anyway, you can't stop them now, Akaashi's already got the ball up into the air."
Yaku immediately bolted at the sight, trying to make it in time as Bokuto spiked the ball towards Y/N. She held her breath, ready to receive the ball like how Yaku taught her.
But instead, her boyfriend did a diving receive right before the ball could make contact with her arms. She gasped, "Mori'! I was just about to-"
Kuroo called out, hand on his hip, "Bokuto, stop trying to damage our manager, we only have one."
Bokuto pouted, holding up a hand as he stated, "I wasn't trying to damage her! I just wanted to see if she could receive my spikes!"
As the two of them were talking, Yaku stood up and walked towards Y/N. She gulped, ready for a lecture. But instead, Yaku grabbed her hand and marched towards the sidelines.
"I'm not letting you out of my sight. You're gonna' get hurt." Yaku told her, grasping her hand tightly.
Y/N whined, other hand holding his wrist, "But Mori'! Bokuto said he wouldn't hit it that hard, plus I wanna' try receiving like you."
Yaku turned around, free hand pinching Y/N's cheek. "You can practice with our own spikers, not Bokuto. He'll snap your arms." Yaku informs her, releasing her cheek.
Y/N rubbed the side of her face, a pout on her lips still. "Mm... Okay. You want to come and talk to Nishinoya and Asahi over there?"
Kozume Kenma:
"Kenma, can we look over there?" Y/N asked, excitedly pointing to a cat cafe.
Kenma took his gaze off of his game, nodding his head and excusing them from the team's crowd, "Sure thing."
Nekoma was having a school festival. The team had all come together and organised a time where they had a break from their own activities. Kenma had just picked up Y/N from her desert stall, making her smile and quickly tug off her apron.
Kuroo waved at the setter and his girlfriend, telling them to call when they were done. Kenma hums in agreement, catching up with Y/N as she hurriedly made her way to the cat cafe.
She entered, being greeted by some Third Years as they welcomed her to the cat cafe. Kenma followed behind her, looking around at the other people who were in here.
"Kenma, wanna' sit over there?" Y/N asked, standing beside him and gesturing the the empty spot by the corner.
He nodded his head, about to make his way over when he felt something touch his hand. He didn't have time to react as his girlfriend clutched his hand, tugging him around the cats wandering about.
Kenma held his breath for a split second before relaxing at her touch. They sat down, a black cat immediately strutting over and laying on Y/N's lap. She smiled, using her free hand to brush through the cat's fur.
Kenma stared at her, petting the cat that kept brushing against his leg. He kept his eyes on his girlfriend, the way she laughed and awed at the cat purring.
He took out his phone, squeezing her hand the tiniest bit. "Hey. Y/N. Look over here." He said, pointing the camera and focusing it on her.
Y/N curiously turned her head towards Kenma, raised brows as she saw his phone and heard a 'snap'. Instantly after that, she galed and tugged Kenma's hand, "K-Kenma! Delete that! I wasn't ready!"
Kenma pulled his phone away, shaking his head as he clicked on his phone. "No. You look really... cute." He claimed, feeling his cheeks slightly warm up.
Y/N pouted, still holding the cat as she leaned her head against his shoulder. She spoke, "Hmm... Fine, but don't Kuroo, he's gonna' make fun of me..."
Yamamoto Taketora:
Y/N was the manager for the team. What made that better was the fact that she was very, very pretty. What made that better was that this very, very pretty manager was Yamamoto's girlfriend.
It was his idea that she would become the manager. He thought it would be cute to see her around the court a lot more than just watching from the sidelines. What he didn't expect was for her to be so shy around the other players.
"Everyone, gather around." Kuroo called, waving everyone over to him at the entrance of the gym, "Yamamoto said there's something important he wants to tell us."
The team crowded around Nekoma's Ace, making him smile proudly. He was so excited to present his loving girlfriend to the team. It had only been a few weeks, but he was already too hyper about their relationship.
The coach and assistant coach had already heard about the news, providing Y/N with the clibboard and the jacket as soon as she applied for the job. So there she stood, behind her taller boyfriend and grasping his red jacket nervously.
"What is it, Yamamoto?" Yaku questioned, crossing his arms over his chest.
The Ace grinned widely, puffed out chest. "I am happy to present to you..." Yamamoto announced before stepping to the side, "Nekoma's new mamager!"
The whole team blinked at the girl. And then erupted in cheers and shouts.
"WE FINALLY HAVE A MANAGER!" Inouka calls, bouncing up and down.
Lev towered over, almost like a building to a sapling. He gasped, "Are you actually our new mamager? Does that mean you'll come to all of our games? I'll have to try extra harder!"
Yaku elbowed the tall boy's stomach. As Lev groaned in pain, the Libero stood with his hands on his hips and scoffed, "It shouldn't matter if you see a pretty manager there or not, you play your best."
He then bowed a bit to Y/N. "I'm sorry for his idiocy." He apologises, making Y/N wave her hands frantically. She mumbled that it was fine.
Kenma, who was more to the bad, looked at her and gave a small wave. He saw how uncomfortable Y/N was and just decided not to add to the mess.
Kuroo leaned forward, making Y/N gulp. The captain spoke, "Aw, and she's so cute too."
Before Yamamoto can state that Y/N was his girlfriend, she quickly ran to his side and stood behind him. Peaking out from the side of her boyfriend, her hand slid into his and gave a worried squeeze. Yamamoto felt his heart explode.
"Boys." Coach Nekomata called out from the sidelines, "Don't pressure the girl, or else you'll have no manager at all."
The whole team sulked at the idea before getting told to start training.
Yamamoto looked down to Y/N. "Are you okay?" He asked, squeezing her hand back.
Y/N slowly nodded her head, glancing at the team who started serving practice. "Yeah... It's just that everyone is so... tall and intimidating..." She spoke, other hand grasping the back of his jacket.
Yamamoto chuckled, pressing a kiss to her cheek, "It's fine, the team is full of crazy people. You'll love them, trust me." Y/N hummed an 'okay'. "Great. Now, I've gotta' start practice. Just sit with Coach."
As she did so and started speaking with the assistant coach, Yamamoto made his way to his teammates.
"So she's yours?" Yaku questioned, raising a brow.
"Of course she is!" Yamamoto shouted, as if it was obvious. The ball in his hands was clenched tightly.
Inouka Sou:
"Y/N! Y/N!" Inouka shouted, rushing up to the girl helping set the nets, "Guess who's coming over today!"
Y/N glanced at the captain, who shook with his head with a smile. Kuroo continued to set up the net and shooed the two of them away to help get the volleyballs. "Who is it, Sou?" She finally asked.
Inouka jumped in his spot. "Karasuno! We have a practice match with them today!" He giggled out, waving his hands around, "You get to see Hinata's freaky quick attack! It's so cool!"
Y/N tilted her head to the side with a grin. "Oh yeah, we were telling me about Karasuno's No. 10. I also heard he's got Kageyama as his setter." She pointed out, hands on the volleyball cart, "I'm excited to see them."
As they rolled the cart towards the court, Coach Nekomata opened the gym door and revealed the Karasuno team.
Kuroo smirked, hand on his hip. "Well, well, well. If it isn't the country boys." He chuckled, Daichi meeting him at the nets. The Karasuno captain gave a challenging smile.
"Come on, Y/N!" Inouka gasped, grabbing her hand in his and running towards the other volleyball players, "I'll introduce you to them all!"
She blushed, feeling her hand being squeezed by his as he dragged her around. When she was meeting the team, Inouka would say 'this is my girlfriend, Y/N'. That made her blush even more once the Karasuno guys would say she was cute.
"Hinata! Look!" Inouka shouts, waving over the shorter kid, "It's Y/N! Remember? I told you about her?"
The orange-haired boy jumped over, gasping at the sight of the girl. She clenched Inouka's hand, smiling nervously at Hinata as he asked her questions.
Inouka grinned at the girl. She was cute.
Haiba Lev:
"L/N?" A voice called out from the entrance of the classroom.
It was lunch time and she was just about to leave the room to meet up with her boyfriend to eat. But she looked towards the door, seeing Yaku there with crossed arms. Behind him, Kuroo and Kai with a smirk and grin.
She walked up to them, holding her lunch box in her hands. "Yaku-senpai, Kai-senpai, Kuroo-senpai. How are you?" She asked, feeling a bit intimidated by the Third Years.
Kai says he was good, Kuroo said he was well and Yaku looked angered.
"What brings you here?" She questioned, moving to the hallway.
Yaku placed a hand on his hip. "I came to ask if you've seen your idiot of a boyfriend. He was meant to meet me at the gym for lunch and he wasn't there, despite being closer to it than me." He groaned, shaking his head with closed eyes, "That moron needs to practice more receives."
Y/N tilted her head and slouched her shoulders. "Oh? Well, I'm just about to go have lunch with him." She informed the Third Years. "Do you want me to tell him to go meet you?"
Yaku clapped his hands and sighed apologetically, "If that's okay with you, I know you really like Lev. For some reason."
Y/N nodded her head, excusing herself and making her way towards the spot her and Lev would eat at. It only took a few minutes when she spotted her tall, silver-haired boyfriend sitting under the tree they usually were at lunch. A small smile played on her lips.
"Hey, Y/N!" Lev laughed out, waving her over with his green-clothed bento box on his lap, "You're finally here! Let's eat!"
She walked closer, standing in front of him with a tilted head. "Lev, don't you have receiving practice with Yaku-senpai?" She questioned, raising a brow as he jumped in fear.
"Um... N-No..." He mumbled, lifting his shoulders slightly.
"Yaku-senpai, Kai-senpai and Kuroo-senpai told me already, Lev." She shook her head and sat down beside him, hands on her lunch box. "I understand that you like me a lot, and I appreciate it, but you could get kicked off the volleyball team because of all the time you're spending on me."
Lev pouted, leaning his shoulder against hers. He groaned, "I know... but I really like hanging out with you more than Yaku...."
Y/N then slipped her hand into his with a chuckle, "I can try and come to your practices then. You can show me how good you are at spiking, and hopefully receiving."
Lev's breath hitched at her action before a fortunate smirk drew onto his lips. He then stood up, holding his bento box in his spare hand as other still held Y/N's. She gasped, steadying her lunch box.
"Of course! I'll show you how great my spikes are!" Lev says, pulling Y/N up with him, "Let's go because Yaku gets way more scary."
FUKURODANI:
Bokuto Koutarou:
"Hey, hey, hey!" Bokuto shouted, hands in the air as he walked into the gym, "Where's my beautiful girlfriend?"
The team looked over to the captain, unfazed by his ecstatic attitude. The official Setter lifting himself from his sitting spot and sighed, "L/N-san is welcoming the other team that's coming over for the practice match. She won't be long."
The team immediately notices the deflation of Bokuto. His hair dropped down and a pout showed on his lips.
Konoha groaned, rubbing the back of his neck, "There he goes again. Do you think it was a good idea to ask Y/N to go greet the other team?"
Komi shrugged his shoulders as he tugged on the bib he was wearing. "I don't know. Akaashi said it would be okay, and Y/N is probably the most approachable out of all of us." He claimed as the Setter walked up to Bokuto and pat his shoulder.
"And this is the gym. I'll go get the training jerseys." Y/N spoke aloud, opening the gym doors. The team behind Y/N smiled at her, whispering about how chill she was as she jogged to the equipment room.
Bokuto followed her movements with his eyes, frowning at the fact that she didn't look his way. Akaashi shook his head, marching away towards Y/N.
"L/N-san." He called as she picked up the spare jerseys, "Have you talked to Bokuto-san yet? He seems upset."
Y/N tilted her head at the statement. "Hm? What happened to Kou?" She asked worriedly, walking towards the Setter, "Is he in his emo-mode before the game?"
Akaashi nodded, making Y/N pout a bit. "Okay, let me just go give these to the other team. Thanks, 'Kaashi." She huffed, smiling at her underclassman.
On the way back, she notice how Bokuto helplessly picks up the volleyball and watches it fall down from his hands. Only to pick it up again. And let it fall again.
Y/N tilted her head down before an idea popped into mind. She quietly jogged towards her boyfriend as the other team warmed up on the other side of the court.
Her hand slipping into his had definitely scared Bokuto. He dropped the ball onto the floor and watched as Y/N tugged her towards the other team. He couldn't suppress the smile drawing onto his face at the warmth of her palm against his.
Y/N stopped in front of the other team. "This is our captain, Bokuto. He's happy to verse you." She spoke, hoping it was obvious that they were holding hands in front of them, "Want to say something, Kou?"
"I-um..." He stuttered, feeling her squeeze his hand reassuringly, "We-My team is going to beat you!"
Y/N giggled, Bokuto tugging her closer to him. He held his chin up proudly, not allowing his fast heartbeat to get in his way. From afar, the rest of the team chuckled at his antics.
The other captain laughed back, shaking Bokuto's hand, "Well, we'll sure give you a fight, Bokuto. Let the best team win."
Y/N tugged him away, hearing the coach announce that the game would be starting now. She pulled Bokuto down a bit, kissing his cheek.
"Win this match, okay Kou?" She chimed, grinning widely as Bokuto's eye glistened.
"For you!"
Akaashi Keiji:
"Keiji!" Y/N called, rushing towards him as they began packing up.
Fukurodani had won their match, but it was tiring. Akaashi felt like he was about to pass out.
The sight of his girlfriend made him smile a little. "Y/N, hi." He whispered, voice strained from his hard work, "Are you ready to leave?"
She nodded her head as Akaashi walked towards her and to the exit. It was only a second before Bokuto called out for them to wait up, as he was nearly done fixing up his bag.
So they stood by the wall, Akaashi's eyes dropping every few moments and his body swaying a little. Y/N had immediately taken notice, glancing up at him. "Keiji? Are you okay?" She questioned, holding onto his jacket sleeves.
His eyes opened as he cleared his throat, "I'm just tired, Y/N, nothing too bad..."
It was pretty bad. He was leaning the opposite way and was so close to hitting his head on the close wall beside them. So Y/N slipped her hand into his and wrapped her other one around his arm, tugging him to her side.
"I'll guide you, Keiji. It's okay, rest a little bit." She told him, feeling Akaashi almost instantly relax against her body. She smiled. He was so cute.
"Thank you, Y/N. I don't know what I would do without you, Love." He yawned slightly, kissing the top of her head. She smiled wider.
"Hey, hey, hey! Let's get going!" Bokuto cheered, leading the two Second Years towards the bus, "I wanna' buy some meat buns on the way home."
Y/N giggled quietly, making sure to navigate Akaashi's movements as he mindlessly walked wherever she led him. He was so close to falling asleep, and he would've done so if Y/N's hands weren't so damn warm.
When they finally made it to the bus, Y/N set Akaashi down by the window seat. "Okay, Keiji, you have two hours to sleep." She informed him in a soft voice, sitting beside him with her hand still in his, "I love you, you did so well."
Akaashi hummed in appreciation, leaning his head against her shoulder and clasping her hand tightly. He felt her shift a little before pulling their joined hands to her lap. Her other hand drew shapes on his palm, something so easily comforting that made Akaashi fall deeper into his slumber.
Oikawa waited off the court for a moment, ready for the ball to do what it needed to. His last set was perfect for Iwaizumi to spike. It had looked like a master move from the spectators stands. But there was a block by the opponent. Karasuno had the ball on their side and they looked sure as Hell determined to win.
Y/N saw from the watcher's seats. She was here to see her boyfriend win the match he's been looking forward to for weeks.
'Y/N! You should watch my match again, it'll be better than the last one!'
'Watch us beat little Tobio and his small spiker, Princess.'
'I need my biggest supporter there, Y/N!'
He would drone on and on about it for days. Y/N had decided since the start that she would come to all his games anyways. They were Third Years and wanted to make the most out of their last year.
"Come on, you can do it, Tooru..." She whispers to herself, gripping the bar handles. She leant forward a bit, catching the look on Oikawa's face as he ran back to his spot on court.
Some of his fangirls were on the side, gasping excitedly from their spots. They had asked Y/N earlier what it was like to date such a hot volleyball player, and she replied with 'everything I had dreamed it would be and more'. Needless to say, the couple was proud to be together.
The intensity of the match was ruthless. Everybody was on the edge of their seata for it. Kageyama on the other side had set the ball to Hinata, ready for their crazy quick attack. Three blockers jumped up, a wall that looked impossible to get through.
But Hinata did it.
He spiked the ball harshly, the sound ringing through Y/N's ears. She watched as Oikawa went to recieve, but the ball hit the ground. Karasuno got the winning point.
As the others cheered, Oikawa stared to where the ball hit the court. He couldn't believe it. This wasn't how things were supposed to be for him.
"Oh no..." Y/N knit her brows as Oikawa glanced back at the winning team. He looked so shocked. One of his teammates patted his back lightly, moving off to stand in a line with the others. The captain looked behind him, seeing all these pairs of eyes directed back at him. But Y/N's ones stood out.
He gulped, his face feeling like it burnt as Y/N's hands left the railing. She pressed her lips together. That was when Oikawa decided to move to his spot.
"Thank you for the match!" They yelled out to each other. The coaches spoke a bit to the teams and then sent them off, as the next team needed to practice. Y/N watched as Oikawa slapped his hand against Iwaizumi's back as the ace stood still.
Seijoh then lined up in front of the higher stands. They bowed.
"Thank you for watching!" The boys called. There were a fair amount of people there, some having to stand up as they couldn't see the mach. Y/N and the rest clapped, cheering them on.
"You all did so well!"
"That was a great rally!"
"Those moves was fantastic!"
"Can't wait to see where you all go!"
Y/N leaned against the railing, sending a sweet smile to her friends, who nodded back at her before walking to get their things ready. She turned to Oikawa, who was already staring back at her.
As the cheers died down, Y/N called out to him, "Nice game, Seijoh! We're all proud of you!" Oikawa kept his eyes on her, a small smile on his lips as tears cascaded down his cheeks. As he turned to get his things, she began making her way down to them.
A few minutes later, Y/N is being pat on the head by each member of the team. "Thanks for coming, L/N." They all said, making her softly grin at the team. Hanamaki chimes, "We could all hear you cheering for us."
"Even more for your lover boy over here." Matsukawa elbows Oikawa, who slings his bag over his shoulder. He seems to have snapped back into reality. Iwaizumi placed a hand on her shoulder. "It was nice of you to spend your time on us." He informs the girl, taking his hand off and gripping his bag.
As the others begin to leave, Y/N waits for her boyfriend. "You ready to go?" She asks as Oikawa scans the courts for the last time he would as a player. He grins a bit at his girlfriend. "Yeah, thank you." Oikawa speaks, walking towards her and kissing her forehead.
A few more tears had escaped his eyes, making Y/N reach up, kiss his cheek and wipe them away. She sighs quietly, "Let's get going, Pretty Boy. You'll be back on the court soon enough." Oikawa can't help but nod his head, holding back the sadness.
The coach called them all to the bus, everybody boarding as told to. Y/N sat in between Iwaizumi and her boyfriend in the back seat.
The ace was against the bags and such, leaning his head against it and staring off into nothing before closing his eyes. Oikawa was searching out the window, covering his chin and mouth with the arm leaning against the ledge. The rest of the bus was filled with quiet talking and snoozing, but Y/N could feel the saddened aura coming off Oikawa.
Silently, she slipped her hand into his that was on his lap. She squeezed his palm and laid her head on his shoulder/upper-arm.
"You're so amazing, Tooru." She whispers, pressing a kiss to his outer palm. The boy looks down at her, seeing her eyes closed. He releases their fingers and wraps an arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer and he interlaced his other hand with hers.
"You are too, Beautiful."
A few hours later, they were off the bus and ready to go home. Iwaizumi glanced at his phone as his friends spoke a few feet away. "You did great today, Tooru." Y/N speaks, hand on his cheek.
"Thank you, Y/N." He sighs, leaning into her palm. She goes on the tips of her toes and kisses his lips softly but passionately, closing her eyes to savour the moment. Oikawa holds her waist closer to his body, warmth emitting from Y/N.
When they pull away, Y/N hums, "I'll see you tomorrow, Tooru, we can go relax since it's Saturday." He nods his head, kissing her cheek before waving 'goodbye'. Iwaizumi lived nearer to her than Oikawa did, so he offered to see her home. Of course, Oikawa would always detest.
He would say things like 'Iwa-chan! Are you trying to steal my Princess? I should tell on you!' or 'No, no, Iwa-chan, what kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn't walk my Treasure home? I can do it!'. But today, he seemed to let it off easily.
The two turned the corner, leaving Oikawa to walk by himself.
"I'll win her the final."
Hours Later . . .
"What the—?" Y/N gasps, trying to sit up. She felt a movement in her bed, and she slept alone.
For sure it wasn't Giyuu, her brother had been asleep before her as he spent last night training with his master. It was dark in her room, but she could make out a single silhouette kneeling at her side on the mattress.
Before she can call out a name, the figure slides out the pillow she was hugging to her chest and replacing it with their head, arms around her waist.
Y/N's hands remain in the air, confused to the fullest. "I—Uh, who—...Please, um, this..."
It isn't until she rests a palm on the person's head that she figures out who it it.
She runs her fingers through his soft, nice smelling hair. "Tooru, what's going on? Is there an emergency?" She stays laying down, Oikawa only tightening his grip and allowing a hand to rub her back. It only hurts her heart more.
Usually, Oikawa would immediately tell her the problem. There was no shying away for the two. But hearing him be so quiet was... weird.
"Hey, hey, Tooru, come on... talk to me please." She wraps both her arms around his neck, shifting her legs to be arched at his torso. She dug her nose into his hair. "I'll listen, you just have to tell me." She coos, staring at the roof.
It's only when she hears soft sniffles that Y/N's eyes widen. Oikawa's happy, energetic state was now replaced with a sulking, upset aura. This was the first time in months that he's been this way. She quietly gasps and hugs Oikawa tightly back, running her hands up his arm.
He has only ever cried for real in front of her once. And that was when he injured himself to be better than Kageyama. He was so distraught that he was 'wasting time' with his injury, leading to him having a crying session with Y/N during second period.
He ran to her classroom and asked to see Y/N. His face showed no sign of sadness and his voice was confident, only until they were alone on the staircase. Then he cried. She didn't know what to do exactly. Oikawa was strong, but everyone has their wounds.
"Shh, it's okay Tooru, I'm here. You've got nothing to worry about. You're safe." She hums, kissing his forehead. She made sure the door was closed, looking over to it. She didn't want to be too loud as for Giyuu to wake up and irritatingly question them.
Oikawa sucks in his breath, sitting up and wiping his cheeks. His breathing was ragged, uncontrolled what-so-ever. He kept his hands covering his eyes, only the aftermath of the tears showing on his face. Y/N gets on her knees, pushing the blanket away and pulling his face closer to hers.
The mattress dips as Oikawa drops his hands. In the dim light that came through the slips in the curtains, Y/N could make out Tooru's pout and watery eyes. The way his lip quivered to stop little strangled sobs to come out.
She wanted to tell him that it was okay to cry loudly, but she knew that Giyuu would hate having to wake up at 12 and Oikawa hated being vulnerable to strangers. The only people outside his family who have helped him through his crying would be Y/N and Iwaizumi.
She doesn't say much, just wiping away the tears that escaped his block and hugging him securely. The arms around his torso only make Oikawa's face grow more red and the tears keep flowing. "I have you, Tooru. You can breathe now. It's just me and you, no one else. I know you're going to be okay and you'll be back to your loveable self." Y/N tells him, closing her eyes.
She was super tired but Oikawa was in a worse state. Y/N moved her arms as she ran her fingers through his locks. He gulps, leaning his head down against her shoulder. A few sniffs later, he says groggily, "I'm sorry..."
Y/N shakes her head, arms around his neck as she spoke, "No, don't apologise. I gave you a key for whenever you wanted. You have nothing to be sorry for, Tooru." She can feel the tears coming from his eyes drop onto her shoulder, the thin fabric only loosening the fall by a little second.
She runs her fingers through his locks. "Do you want to talk about the game? We don't have to, we can just lay here." Oikawa glances at the sheets. He felt a little bad for disrupting her slumber. Slowly, Oikawa laid his head on the pillow and dragged her down. Y/N pulls the blankets up and over his shoulders.
Oikawa sniffs again, tugging her closer and leaning his forehead against hers, their noses bumping. He grips the fabric of her shirt and entangles their legs together. Y/N reaches up and wipes his cheeks.
"Why does he have to be better than me?" Oikawa asks, whispers cracking his tone. Y/N halts her movements, pulling away for a second before feeling Oikawa's grip tighten. The small movement asking her to stay here.
"I've tried so hard... but Tobio is—he is still so much more better than me. No matter what I try to do, he is always ten steps in front of me." Oikawa says to her, "Kindaichi told me about middle school. Tobio was a terrible teammate, and for some reason I was just so happy to be better at that than him."
He furrows his brows. "But you saw him today. He—He was so nice to his team, he was able to play with them like they've been there for him since the beginning. Why couldn't I complete was much as him?"
He wipes his eyes. "This was my last shot to beat him again. To prove that I am better than him and that we shouldn't compare each other anymore. Iwa-chan even said that this year would be our year..." Oikawa finally looks at her again. "Was I wrong to try and win again? Is it passed my time now?"
"Tooru... Kageyama may be great, but I know that you are too." Y/N states, brushing he hair away from his eyes. Oikawa keeps the eye contact with her. He knows that he should prepare for a long speech now.
"You work just as hard as Kageyama, perhaps even more. You've made your team trust you and respect you as quickly as possible, they rely on their captain. They rely on you, Tooru. Not Kageyama, you." She looks over to her desk chair, seeing her tie laying on the back of it. "I know for sure that Seijoh wouldn't be the same without you." She whispers, feeling Oikawa's cries coming back. His body shakes as she rubs his shoulder.
"We both know that Iwa-chan needs your incredible sets to be an amazing ace. Kindaichi looks to you for support when he faces touch challenges as a First Year. Your team already believes that you are incredible." Oikawa takes it in, running his thumb up and down her back.
Y/N says, "And I know you pride yourself in your serves and sets. Not to mention your leadership." The room's darkness has settled in on Oikawa's eyes and he looks at her. Y/N is beginning to tear up too. She blinks a few times to push out the brimming drops.
It's always been like that. Whenever one would cry, the other would too. No matter what.
Like on the staircase. Oikawa was running on and on about how difficult it is to become as good as Kageyama. At one point, he yelled that he wasn't good enough to play. Y/N immediately tackled him in a hug, heart broken at the words he spoke. Her eyes stung from how harsh Oikawa treated himself.
Y/N gulps, eyes falling on the collar of his shirt. She runs her fingers down the lining. "You think those fans like you because you're not as good as Kageyama? No, they like you because you are the best in their eyes. And in mine too."
Her hand stops above his heart, which was beating faster under her touch. Oikawa nuzzles his nose and chin into her hair, Y/N's head under his. She hums, "I love you for everything you are and you are not." He kisses her head, sighing out. He doesn't understand this girl sometimes.
Y/N went on, "You are not an egotistical jerk, a rip off, a superior complex. You're not just another hot boy celebrity that lets the fame get to his head." She smiled at herself before wiping away some droplets. "You are a star setter, an amazing captain, a loving person. You always make sure I am safe and that the friends around you know that you are rooting for them."
She pulls her head away, meeting eyes with Oikawa. His ones were red and puffy, dried up tear streaks on his skin. "You are great. If Kageyama thinks that you won't be catching up anytime soon, he is dead wrong. Because I know my Tooru, and he is going to be training hard to become Japan's Best Setter, right?" Oikawa chuckles a bit, nodding his head along with her.
She kisses his forehead, hugging him closer to her. "I love you, Tooru. My Handsome Seijoh Setter, you are just as incredible in my mind. To me, you are the Champion of Volleyball." She tells him, Oikawa staring at their linked hands. He seemed to be frowning again. Y/N furrowed her brows. She brings their hands up closer.
Pinching his cheek softly, she says, "I don't care how much you want to deny it, you are the best. No one can beat my Pretty Boy, so please smile!"
Oikawa grins again, bringing his free hand around her back and drawing her closer to him. He brings his lips down and gives her a sweet kiss. She closes her eyes, relaxing as she finally lets Oikawa be calm again. She loved the feeling of his lips against hers, even more when it's been a long day and the two of tbem seemed touch-starved.
"I will, Beautiful. Thank you so much for this, I... I can't believe you'd do so much for me." Oikawa says after pulling away. Y/N lets go of his cheek, letting her arm drape around his neck again. She hums back, "Of course, I can't let my Handsome Prince frown all the time."
His girlfriend draws hearts on the skin beside his mouth. "I want to see your pretty face. Please don't spoil it with wrinkles."
"I won't." He chuckles a back, closing his eyes. Y/N tugs the blanket closer to their bodies, letting out a noise of content. The warmness of his body reflected onto her. She kissed his jaw.
"Kou, don't run too far away!" Y/N calls, pulling her bags from the car as her boyfriend sped his way towards the sand. She chuckled to herself when the grains caught Bokuto's sandal and caused him to trip over.
Akaashi took Y/N's bag from her grasp. "L/N-san, you can go ahead. The rest of us will take the bags, please help Bokuto-san." He said to her, making Y/N nod her head and jog off towards her boyfriend.
The Fukurodani Boys Volleyball team had decided to go to the beach today. This was mainly because Konoha, Sarukui and Komi wouldn't be able to celebrate Bokuto's birthday tomorrow, as they were all unavailable. So the team decided today would be good enough.
Bokuto chose the beach. He was excited to see everyone agree so easily. He felt proud to have such a great idea.
Yukie helped pull out the basket of food they all came together to buy. Kaori grabbed the towels, the many of them, and brought them to the sand where Y/N was helping Bokuto dust off sand from his legs and shorts.
As soon as everyone was settled on their section of the beach, Bokuto called out to them all, "Let's get into the water!"
He stood there, arms spread out and swimming shorts on. Y/N couldn't help but scan his body twice before clearing her throat, "Kou, some of us have to still change. You go in and we'll meet up with you."
Bokuto nodded his head and ran off, giggling at the feel of the water around his ankles.
Y/N eyes drifted to Akaashi. She tilted her head towards Bokuto with a smile. Akaashi nodded his head and followed the Captain.
A few of the team members needed to fix themselves up. So the small group headed to the change rooms all together.
Yukie slipped out of her shirt and brushed fingers through her hair. "How's things going with Bokuto, Y/N? He seems more chipper than usual." She chuckled, glancing over to the girl.
Y/N pulled her jacket off from around her shoulder and smiled at her fellow managers. "Things are great. I'm going over to his house tomorrow to spend the day." She claimed, shrugging her shoulders, "And I think it's the fact that everyone is here to spend time with him. It's cute."
Kaori, who had finished changing into her swimsuit, sat on the bench with her bag on her lap. "Anything Bokuto does, you think it's cute, Y/N." She giggled, waving her hand.
A few moments later, Y/N pulled her jacket back around her and left the changing rooms with the rest of her friends. She spotted Bokuto calling out for Akaashi to come to the deep end with him, to which Akaashi followed along with Konoha and Komi.
She spent a while in the water, her jacket on her towel as she walked towards Akaashi. He was currently watching as Konoha and Komi chased Bokuto around with water guns. The official Setter had one of his own, but wasn't using it.
"Akaashi, why aren't you shooting them? Aren't you and Bokuto on the same team?" Y/N questioned, crossing her arms over her chest as she watched the three boys.
Akaashi responds, pulling the pump of the water gun three times, "I've run out of ammo, L/N-san."
Y/N chuckled, pointing to the water they were surrounded by, "Then why don't you just reload?"
Akaashi stared down at his gun. "Isn't that cheating?" He muttered out, moving his gaze from his weapon to the girl beside him.
She shook her head before tilting it to the side. She hummed back, feeling the water run around her thighs, "No. Why would it be?"
"Because there is unlimited ammo everywhere. The war would go on forever." Akaashi pointed out.
"That's the fun of it, Akaashi." Y/N retorts.
"Oh. Right."
"Baby! Come save me!" Bokuto shouted out loudly, waving his hand to the both of them as Komi and Konoha sprayed him with the salt water. Bokuto's hair was damp and flopped onto his forehead. It was adorable.
Y/N pointed to the gun in the Setter's hands. "Do you mind?" She asked nicely, a smile on her lips.
He shook his head and held out the weapon. He spoke, "Not at all, L/N-san."
Y/N thanked him, filling up the large gun and rushing towards Bokuto. She shouted out, "Konoha! Komi! I thought we were friends!"
The two turned around to get water shot at their chests, gasping and running away as they tried to shoot her back. They all laughed loudly, Bokuto getting the chance to fill up his gun and help Y/N with shooting the enemy.
Komi yelled back, just as dramatically as Y/N did, "Y—Y/N! It's not what you think!"
She squinted her eyes, bringing he gun towards him. "I won't hesitate, Komi!" She stated, letting the water loose and hitting him in the arm.
Bokuto wrapped an arm around his girlfriend, pulling her close. "My knight in shining armour!" He cheered, kissing her cheek.
Y/N giggled, tugging Bokuto towards the enemy as the war started up again.
"She's either like Akaashi or like Bokuto." Kaori stated, standing beside the Vice-Captain and other manager, "There is no inbetween with Y/N."
Yukie shrugged her shoulders as she watched Bokuto haul Y/N onto his back to chase Konoha and Komi. "She just fits in well." She claimed as Komi tripped over his feet and fell into the water, "She's like a double agent, working for both sides of the wall."
Akaashi nodded his head, smiling at the way Bokuto and Y/N laughed at Komi. "I'm glad that she is."
After two hours in the water, Y/N and Yukie went back to the sand. The H/C-haired girl dried her hands and her body, wrapping her towel around her shoulders as Yukie sat on her own towel instead.
"Hey, L/N!" Sarukui shouted out, waving his hand from behind the barbeque. She jogged over, noticing the different materials needed to cook the food. "Should we start on the meat now? It is his favourite."
Y/N nods her head, grabbing the container of marinated meats.
Sarukui was a great cook, actually. When Y/N said that they should do a barbeque at the beach, he offered his service to work the grill. Most of them were surprised, except for Komi and Konoha. They were all smug about knowing he could cook.
The grill was on and heated, oils on the surface spreading around easily. With tongs, Y/N set the meat on the grill and listened to it sizzle. After enough was put on, she handed the tongs to Sarukui and thanked him.
Kaori was still in the water with Washio, Anahori and Onaga. The Third Years were trying their best to help the First Years cut loose from their tense forms they held during practice.
Yukie stayed back with Y/N and Sarukui, watching the meat intensely. She was waiting. Y/N kneeled down on the big, shared blanket for everyone. Akaashi bought a foldable table, small enough to fit longways on the blanket. Y/N was thankful for it, because now the food would be safe on the table.
Y/N set the onigiri on the table, sitting in the two big containers she packed them in. She had made sure to tell Yukie to calm down on eating them, because the boys had big appetites as well.
"Y/N!" Bokuto shouted, wrapping his arms around Y/N's shoulders from behind, "Are you done yet? Can you come to the water again?"
Y/N stood up straight and looked up to Bokuto, who's stomach was pressed against her back. She blinked as water dropped onto her face. She chuckled, looking around, "Kou, you're soaking wet. Where's your towel?"
Bokuto pointed to the grey towel on the cooler. Y/N walked towards it, Bokuto never leaving her shoulders as he trot behind her. They both kneeled down to grab the towel, Y/N unfolding it to see that it had a gigantic owl imprinted on the outside of the material. She smiled.
Turning around, Y/N sat Bokuto down on the group blanket and dried his hair, kneeling in between his legs. As the towel twirled his hair around, Bokuto smiled and leaned back in his spot. Y/N pulled the towel away and tilted her head at him.
"The food will be done soon. There's some things on the table." She stated, sitting on her legs, "You want anything to eat?"
Bokuto peered over her shoulder and spotted the onigiri. With a gasp, he reached over and grabbed one, munching on it immediately. "You make these so well." He mumbled out, "Thank you, Y/N."
She smiled, kissing his forehead. "No problem, Kou." She said.
It was around 20 minutes later that the food was ready. Everyone was gathered around the table Akaashi brought with him, handing out cups for the drinks and plates with chopsticks.
Bokuto sat in the middle of the table, in between Y/N and Akaashi. He wore a giant smile as he talked to the both of them. The rest of the team were helping distribute the food evenly. By 'evenly', they gave Bokuto a few more pieces than everyone else.
Konoha gave Y/N a thumbs up. She smiled at him and turned to Bokuto. "You start eating, Kou, I need to get something from the car." She told him, standing up and ruffling his fluffy hair.
Bokuto nodded his head. "Sure, don't take too long, okay?" He asked her, waving as she walked off.
In the distance, Y/N could hear their laughing and the music playing on the radio. She opened the car and pulled out the strawberry shortcake from the back that Kaori hid so well. Luckily, they were close enough to the car to let the windows down and not worry about anything being stolen. So the cake was not melted at all.
Bokuto was more of a savory type, mainly because he loved meat so much. But this one time during the training camp, Y/N was talking to Tsukishima about strawberry shortcakes. Tsukishima gave her a recipe and the next day, she brought around two cakes of it for the rest of the teams, a 'good work' for everything they've done so far.
She noticed how Bokuto enjoyed it, so she made it again. This time, she wrote 'Happy Birthday, Captain!' on it and got her mother to draw owl versions of each of the members, including Yukie and Kaori.
Y/N held the cake in her arms, walking towards Bokuto. It was already dark at this time, and Komi brought little lanterns with him since he knew it would draw into night. It was a nice atmosphere.
Konoha covered Bokuto's eyes as Akaashi took the empty plate of meat away from the Captain's spot. Instead, Y/N put the cake down in front of him. Konoha's hands moved away from Bokuto's gaze as he rushed back to his spot.
When everyone started singing 'Happy Birthday', Bokuto stared at them all. All of his friends, who spent this time to be around him, who wanted his birthday to be special and inclusive. All of his friends.
Everyone clapped as Bokuto blew the candles away, the fire going out as he sat on his legs. Y/N pat Bokuto's back and chimed, "Time to cut the cake, Kou."
She handed him a knife, careful not to cut him. But Bokuto smiled, leaning down and kissing her lips. He could spot Y/N's baking from a mile away. And he loved it.
"Thank you. I love it, Y/N." He said, rosy cheeks.
Y/N felt her heart speed up. "I'm glad you do, Kou."
The Next Day . . .
Today was the 20th of September.
"Thank you for this." Y/N spoke, bowing at Bokuto's parents, "I'll look after him."
Bokuto's mother waved her hand. "Oh, dear, thank you." She said back, smiling warmly at her, "I can't believe we didn't pick up Koutarou's favourite drinks when we went shopping! We're grateful that you could come early and watch after him."
A few more words were exchanged before Y/N closed the door of the Bokuto household. Her boyfriend's parents went out to the shops. They said they would only be an hour or two.
Y/N walked into the kitchen, taking out a cup and boiling the water in the kettle. She opened the fridge and took out a few ingredients for a meal. The one Bokuto liked.
As she turned on the stove and began cooking, footsteps were heard down the hall. She glanced over to the entrance and saw her boyfriend, wrapped in blankets and his hair deflated. His face was red as he blinked mindlessly at Y/N.
"Baby?" He mumbled out, walking over to the kitchen bench, "What're you doing here?"
Y/N turned down the heat and poured the boiling water into the cup, sliding it towards Bokuto. "Morning, Kou." She spoke, leaning against the bench, "I'm just here to look after you while your parents are away. They won't be long."
Bokuto sipped the tea, wiping his eyes as he moved the blanket around his head. He was definitely warm, but his body felt just so cold.
"I'm just making you something for your cold." Y/N stated, stirring the pot and turning the fire up a little more, "I'm sorry that you're sick on your birthday, Kou."
Bokuto leaned his head against the bench and huffed out, "No, it's not your fault... I went in the water when it was late at night, even after you and Akaashi said not to."
A pout showed on his face as he looked up at Y/N. She turned her head to him and quickly finished with the food. She took out a bowl and filled half of it with rice, the rest with the food she had just made.
"Aw, don't worry, Kou. You got to spend time with the team." She stated, sliding the bowl towards him and grabbing some chopsticks, "I'm staying here all day for you."
He sniffed, taking the chopsticks into his hands, "Really?"
Y/N felt her heart squeeze. Bokuto could be so cute! She walked around the bench and stood in between his legs, holding his heated cheeks in her hands.
"Of course, Kou." She chimed, brushing her thumb over his cheekbone, "I can't leave my boyfriend alone on his birthday, can I?"
Bokuto's pout left his lips as he leaned forward, forehead now pressed against hers. He mumbled, "I really love you, Y/N."
She smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing his cheek. "I love you too, Kou." She replied, brushing fingers through his hair, "Happy Birthday."
Bokuto grinned, his cheeks warming up from something other than his cold today.
