Kei’s phone buzzed as he flopped onto his bed, burying his face in the pillow before flipping over to check his notifications. No texts from Yn. Again.
It had been three days, three painfully long days since he last saw her. She’d gone on a work trip, and despite the constant messaging, Kei felt like he was starving. Starving for her voice. Her face. Her dumb little expressions when she talked too fast and got flustered.
He opened their chat.
Kei: Send me a pic.
Kei: I wanna see you.
Kei: I miss you.
He stared at the screen, waiting. Three dots appeared. Then disappeared. Then appeared again. His heart thudded like a complete idiot’s because, wow, she really had him wrapped around her finger.
Finally, her message popped up.
Yn: Miss you too, Kei. But I look gross rn 😭
He scoffed and typed furiously.
Kei: Not possible.
Kei: I’ll take whatever I can get. Even if you look gross.
Yn: So mean 😭
He rolled his eyes.
Kei: I’m serious, Yn.
Kei: It’s been 3 days. I’m dying.
Kei: Save me.
The little typing bubble returned, and then—finally—a photo.
It was blurry. Yn was in bed, bundled up in a blanket, hair sticking out in random directions. Her expression was half-asleep but warm, and Kei felt his entire body relax just seeing her.
Kei: Holy shit, you’re cute.
Yn: Don’t lie.
Kei: Not lying. Send another one.
Yn: No, you’ll get sick of my face.
Kei sat up, frowning.
Kei: I’ve literally spent the last 72 hours wishing I could teleport to you.
Kei: You think I’d get sick of your face?
Yn: Maybe 🥺
Kei: You’re insane.
Kei: And pretty.
Another photo came in, this time clearer. Yn was pouting at the camera, lips pursed in mock annoyance, and Kei actually laughed out loud.
Kei: I’m setting this as my lock screen.
Yn: You wouldn’t.
Kei: I would.
She sent him an eye-roll emoji, but Kei could imagine her smiling while typing it. He felt warm, even though the room was cold.
Kei: When do you get back?
Yn: Tomorrow night.
Kei: That’s too far.
Yn: It’s literally tomorrow.
Kei: Still too far.
She sent him a string of laughing emojis before pausing.
Yn: You’re being really soft today.
Kei: Shut up.
Yn: I like it.
Kei: Good. Don’t tell anyone.
Yn: Too late. I’m telling everyone you’re whipped.
Kei groaned and fell back onto the pillows, but his lips twitched.
Kei: I don’t care. Just come home already.
Yn: I’ll be home soon.
Kei: Not soon enough.
He stared at her last text for a while before setting his phone down, the tiniest smile tugging at his lips. Tomorrow couldn’t come fast enough.
"This is all your fault." Tsukishima growls, kneeling on the pavement as he picked up his glasses.
Y/N sat in front of him, hands on the ground near her knees. A small pout on her lips was shown, but Tsukki couldn't see that now.
"Well, I'm sorry, Kei, but you're the one who shoved yourself into me." She spoke, closing her fists on the floor, "I thought those glasses were meant to help you see better."
Tsukishima rolled his eyes as he felt the frames of his glasses. "Sorry, you were too short I just couldn't see you, Y/N." He claimed, making the girl in front of him scoff, cross her arms and look away from him.
Tsukishima was on his way home by himself. Yamaguchi was busy, saying he was going to go practice more float serves, so the tall blonde was left alone.
Y/N, on the other hand, was on her phone by the school entrance. Her father was texting her, asking her to pick up some vegetables for dinner tonight. She was replying as quickly as she could, asking if he needed any help cooking tonight when it happened.
Tsukishima was digging through his bag for something as he was walking when he suddenly clashed into her still figure, making his glasses drop from his face.
When they collided, Y/N's bag slid off from her shoulder and through her arm. Being unable to grab it, she had fallen back and allowed the bag to drop onto Tsukishima's glasses.
Just as he was about to curse at the person, Y/N was already doing so.
That led to here.
Y/N squinted at him, standing up and placing a hand in her pockets and bag around her shoulder. "Whatever you say, Kei." She sighed, "Are you okay, you walking tree?"
Tsukishima put on his glasses, blinking a few times before groaning loudly, "Shit. They're cracked bad, thanks to you." He glares as much as he could at the girl in front of him.
Y/N furrowed her brows, leaning forward and taking the glasses off of his face. He tried to grab them back, much missed incredibly, swiping at nothing but air.
"Didn't think you could be so careless, Kei." She sighed, examining the glasses herself, seeing that they were probably as bad as he said to be, "Oh well, you can be temporarily blind until you get home, right? I've got places to be."
She pulled a cloth from her pocket and wrapped the broken glasses in it. Then, she took his palm and placed the covered glasses in his grasp.
Tsukishima grunts, standing up again, "And how will I get back home without being able to see?" He grabbed it lightly and stood up.
Y/N crossed her arms again and tilted her head. "You don't have a spare?" She wondered, to which Tsukishima just rolled his eyes at.
"I didn't plan on breaking my glasses today, moron." He scowled back at her.
A thought drew into Y/N's mind. It wasn't completely her fault, but that didn't mean she was excused. No matter how much of an ass he was, some guilt would still be hung on her shoulders if she didn't help.
Y/N sighed, checking her phone for the time before glancing back at Tsukki, "Fine, I guess you're right. I'll help you get home, but that's it. No more. Deal?"
She stuck out a hand towards Tsukki, who stared warily at her blurry figure. Reluctanly, he groaned and held out his own hand, prompting Y/N to grab and shake it. He waited for her to let go, only for Y/N to tug him along.
"And what do you think you are doing, Y/N?" He question, grasping his bag tightly.
Y/N only looked both way on the street before crossing, making sure Tsukkishima was keeping up. "What, you think you can see clear enough to not need me to pull you everywhere?" She points out, passing other students who either glanced at them or fully ignored them.
Tsukki retorts with an irritated look, "I don't need you to hold my hand, I can see good enough to pick out even your figure." The comment makes Y/N grasp his hand tightly, making him wince that little bit.
She then slipped her hand out of his, continuing her walk whilst Tsukki stood still. "Well, if you can see that well, then you can go home by yourself, right?" She mocks, smiling as she heard him click his tongue.
"Smart-ass." He scowls, marching towards her and grabbing her hand.
She chuckled at his annoyance before continuing on. She hummed, "I just need to pick up a few things. We won't be too long." She waited at the next crossing with the others on their walk.
When the light turned green for them to cross, Tsukishima growled at her, "Why am I accompanying you on your errands, exactly? You said you'd take me home."
In return, Y/N shook her head and stared forward. She spoke out, "Yeah, I did say I'd take you back to your home. I never said straight away." She hears him scowl lowly. "And don't go complaining, without me you would still be at the school gates."
"Fine. Just make this quick." He warned her, "If I don't make it back by dark, Akiteru will go looking for me. That idiot." He glared at the floor, the only place he could be sure wouldn't cause any troubles if he looked at it.
Y/N stayed quiet for a short time. She kept walking, making sure to keep a little space in between her and Tsukki. But the silence was broken by her voice.
"You're brother is very nice." She spoke to him, Tsukki only raising a brow, "Akiteru can hold a conversation, more than you at least. Plus, when Tadashi and I came over last week to study, he was always giving us drinks and food. Plus, he's kinda' funny."
Tsukishima scoffed back, feeling her pull him to the side to avoid bumping into anyone, "You sound like you've got a crush on my older brother, Y/N."
In response, Y/N punches his arm and says, "What? Of course not! Akiteru's like... he's in college, y'know. We're both working hard in our studies and have absolutely no time for each other." Tsukki stared at her from the corner of his eye for a moment. "As if we'd even stand a chance, Kei." She waved her free hand dismissively then gripped her bag.
Tsukishima tilted his head down to her. "So you're saying that if he dropped out or when he graduates, you'd be free to date him?" He teases, having Y/N blush from embarrassment and punch his arm again.
"That's not what I meant at all!"
"Well, good for you." He chuckles at her, "As if Akiteru would court you anyway, or anyone like you."
Y/N growled, crossing her arms and unlatching their joined hands, "You can be such an asshole, you know that?" She kept walking, Tsukishima being sure to not fall behind.
He felt somewhat panicked when she let go. Not because he liked it or anything, no. Of course he hated holding her hand. He hated that way more than when Bokuto told him he sucked at volleyball. He absolutely despised the warm feeling of her palm against his. Definitely. No way he'd enjoy holding her hand again. Not at all.
Y/N slipped her hand in his again.
Tsukishima felt the corner of his lips tug up.
"The shop is over there, come on. If you keep draging your feet, we'll take way longer than necessary." She states, weaving through the crowds of people, "Can you just hold the basket for me?"
Tsukishima sighs out harshly, making sure she heard how irritated he was with the simple task. "Tch, this is a waste of time for me." He scowls.
Y/N ignores him, shoving a basket into his stomach before dragging him by his sleeve. She moved towards the vegetables, taking out the list her dad sent her.
"Okay, so according to dad..." She whispered, feeling Tsukishima tug her sleeve. Y/N glanced at his hand before taking his hand and walking down the aisle. She went on, "I need to get bok choy and bean sprouts first."
Tsukishima kept quiet, wandering where she led. He felt the basket in his hand grow heavier and heavier as they went on. Y/N was piling in the vegetables and such for dinner tonight, all the while murmuring to herself.
"Give me a second, I need to reach up there for the basil." She warned, letting go of his hand and moving closer to the shelf. On her toes, she reached as high as she could to the top shelf.
She cursed quietly to herself, "Damn it, why do they make the shelves so freaking high for?" One last reach and she landed on her heels with a groan.
"I told you this was a waste of my time." Tsukishima voiced, stepping towards her, "What is it? Basil?"
Without trying so hard, he grabbed the light bag of the vegetable and held it in front of her. "Is this it?" He mumbled back, making Y/N confirm it, "Good. Hurry up."
Y/N slouches her shoulders, grabbing his hand roughly and dragging him towards the cashier. "From Prince Charming to Normal Jack-Ass in a second. Of course." She murmurs.
Tsukishima shakes his head, placing the basket on the bench.
It had taken the two of them about 20 minutes to shop around. Tsukishima scowling at her that this was taking too long, Y/N constantly dragging him out of the way of customers, the two of them looking like idiots whilst trying to go different ways with linked hands. It was awful.
Y/N smiled at the cashier. "Good afternoon. Just these, please." She spoke in a soft voice Tsukishima had never heard her speak to him with.
The cashier continued to do his work as Tsukishima took out his phone from his bag. It was ringing, the words too blurry to read for him. As Y/N payed for her groceries, he answered.
"Hello?"
"Kei! It's Akiteru. Where are you?" Akiteru asked, sounding rushed, "Mum is asking if you suddenly had practice tonight. And we're starting to prepare dinner soon, so you know."
Y/N thanked the cashier and slipped her hand into Tsukishima's, making their way towards home. She looked up the the blonde as he continued to speak, "I understand. But no, I don't have practice. Coach Ukai said our next practice is on Friday."
"Ah, okay, I got it." Akiteru snaps his fingers. "So when did you think you'll be back?" He questions, looking over to his mother who was putting on her apron.
Tsukishima glanced around and saw the familiar buildings around. He then answered his older brother, "I'll be home in around 15 minutes or so. Tell Mum not to worry."
Akiteru sighed in relief, resting his rigid shoulders, "Oh thank God. She's making her classic soba, and I don't want to be the only one suffering in the kitchen when she tells me that I've cut the green onions too big." He let out a chuckle at the end to lighten the mood. Tsukishima only hummed.
Akiteru then placed a hand on his hip and asked, "So, what's taking you so long anyway? You're usually home as quick as possible after school."
Tsukishima rolled his eyes, glancing down at the girl who unsuspiciously looked away right in time. He replied, "I'm just with a friend."
Akiteru tilted his head with a confused expression. "Hm? Why is that?"
Tsukishima felt Y/N pull him to the left, prompting him to move towards that direction. "Right after school, we bumped into each other and she ended up breaking my glasses—"
"It wasn't just my fault—!"
"—And now she's taking me with her to run her errands." He finished, ignoring her deadly glare.
The older brother crossed his arm over his chest and inquired, "Oh, okay. So who is it that lead you to your misfortune?" Tsukishima could hear the smile on his older brother's face.
The blonde sighed out in irritation, "It was Y/N."
Akiteru stopped short before gasping, "Ooh, Y/N, huh? Can she hear me? Y/N-chan! Hey, it's Akiteru!" Tsukishima winces at the loud volume of his brother, annoyed by the people he was currently talking to.
Y/N pulled Tsukishima's arm down and talked back into the phone, "Hi, Akiteru!" Her tone was incredibly cheerful. Much to Tsukki's dismay.
Tsukishima pulled his arm up again, clicking his tongue at the girl before talking to his brother, "Is that all? I'm going to hang up now." He says blandly.
Akiteru then replies, "Yeah, okay. Just make sure to be nice to her, Kei."
Tsukishima grunts, "Fine. Bye." He hung up before Akiteru could respond.
Y/N pulled them around the corner and craned her neck to look up at him. "I'll drop you off first and then head home. Okay?" She told him, to which he nods his head.
She texted her dad, saying she might be a few minutes late. He had replied saying that he didn't mind since he would make the dinner planned tonight for tomorrow. He ended up going to an appointment he forgot about, so he trusted Y/N would be safe.
When her eyes lifted from her phone, she realised they were now walking all alone on the path to Tsukki's house. Nobody was around, the only sound being the bird and the occasional car driving by.
"I—um..." She stammers out, surprising the blonde a little, "I'm sorry, Kei. A—About your glasses."
Tsukishima raised a brow at her unrefined form. "And you pay me back by stringing me along to do your chores. Thank you so much." He taunts, making the girl grip harder on his hand.
Y/N looks away, an embarrassed reddening appearing on her face. "Well, sorry, but I'm not changing my plans for you just yet, Kei." She stated, turning left on the corner with the park.
Tsukishima then scoffed back, "Oh? 'Yet', huh? So you're planning to change something for me?"
"That's not what I said!"
"Oh, but that's what you implied." He answers back, a smile on his lips as she began arguing against it.
She sighed out, looking around as she held onto her school bag, "We should be close to your house now."
"Okay." He said back, making sure not to swing her bag of groceries too much in his grasp. Last thing he wanted was for the bag to break and everything falling out.
It was only a few more minutes until they made it to his house. Y/N knocked on the door, waiting patiently for someone to open up. Akiteru and their mother was home, so they should be fine with opening the door.
The door swung open, Tsukishima's older brother smiling widely at the two. "Y/N! How nice to see you again, how have you been?" He questions, moving out of the way to let them in.
As she tugged Tsukishima inside, Y/N replies, "Oh, I'm good, thanks. And how about you, Akiteru?"
She took off her shoes, putting on the slippers she would always use when she'd come over. She helped Tsukishima sit down as Akiteru said he had to go back to the kitchen.
After getting his own slipper on, Tsukishima spoke to the shorter girl, "To my room." He held out his hand, expecting the girl to take hold of it.
"Can't you find your way around the house you've been living in for 16 years?" She asked, raising a brow.
Tsukki groaned out, looking annoyed with her, "I'd rather not break all my mother's valuables. Come on." He reaches out his hand again, prompting Y/N to roll her eyes and take his hand, moving towards Tsukishima's room.
"Still have those dinosaurs?"
"Shut up."
Y/N ended up leaving Tsukki to change in his room. On the way to the door, she passed the kitchen. Tsukishima's mother had stopped her and now brought her in to talk. Akiteru had joined in, changing the short chat to a long one.
Y/N had spent about 15 minutes talking with the two of them, not minding that much. They were nice and she liked how easily she could talk to them. The thing that pulled her out of her thoughts and coversation was when she felt a tug on her blazer.
Turning around, she saw Tsukishima's han holding the material. Without a second thought, Y/N mindlessly slipped her fingers through his and held onto his hand.
"Oh!" Tsukishima's mother gasped, "When did that happen?"
Y/N furrowed her brows, looking towards her with a tilted expression. What did she do wrong? She was holding Tsukki's hand to help navigate him whilst he was blind. What was so bad?
"I have my glasses on, Y/N." Tsukki's monotone voice arose.
Y/N shot a glance up to his pretty face, seeing that he did in fact have his glasses replaced. Which only made matters worse.
Quickly, she slid her hand out of Tsukishima's and moved back, bumping into the chair and moving the table a bit. Akiteru and Tsukishima's mother widened their eyes, asking if she was okay.
"I—I'm sorry, I'm fine. I was just, um..." She mumbles, staring at the floor. She felt embarrassed by what she did, even if the other three didn't make a big deal out of it.
"Well, would you like to stay for dinner?" Akiteru asks nicely, clapping his hands together, "We certainly made enough."
Y/N widens her eyes at the offer. She didn't have any homework or anything to do after school so she could. The girl looked up to Tsukki, as if to ask him what she should do.
The blonde boy raised a brow at her. He questioned, "What are you looking at me for? It's a 'yes' or 'no' answer."
Y/N looked back at the adults, nodding her head slowly before smiling and thanking them for their time. Akiteru had allowed Tsukki to keep her company, as they would finish up. When Tsukki pointed out how his brother said he needed as much help, Akiteru waved it off and told him to go hang out with the girl.
The two of them were currently outside, Y/N holding a volleyball in her hand as Tsukki sat down. She didn't play much, but Yamaguchi had taught her a few things. She was receiving the ball over and over again as Tsukki watched her.
"Do you just like holding my hand or something?" Tsukki finally asked.
Y/N had stopped, the ball hitting the side of her arm and making it bounce away. She chased after the ball, picking it up before speaking out, "It was an accident."
Tsukishima rolled his eyes. "That doesn't answer my question." He claims, leaning forward as Y/N came towards him and sat beside him.
"I mean..." She whispered, holding the ball on her lap, "If I, uh, said 'yes' would that be weird?" She looked up at Tsukki, who just held an indifferent face.
He rubbed the back of his neck, looking at the ground. He retorts, "You'd be an idiot if you thought I didn't notice." He watches as Y/N cheeks redden.
She folds her arms over the volleyball in her lap and buries her head into her sleeves. "Ugh, stop tormenting me, Kei... It's bad enough that I just embarrassed myself in front of your family..." She told him, heart pacing fast.
Tsukki didn't say anything else. He watched her shoulders slouch and her arms stretch out towards the grass. Her hair fell over her shoulders and her eyes were casted on her fingers. With her chin on the ball, Tsukki could only see a bit of her face.
She looked far too cute right now.
That didn't stop him from landing a kiss on her cheek.
Y/N jumped up, holding her breath as her fingers instinctively went to where he kissed her. The ball dropped from her lap, rolling away as the two stared at each other. She cheeks were still as red as before, but this time her lips were parted. "Kei..."
"I like you." He says bluntly, hand against the hardwood he was sitting on, "You can be so oblivious sometimes."
Y/N immediately clenched her fists, facing him fully as she argued, "How was I oblivious? You—You didn't even attempt to make it obvious to me!"
Tsukishima raised her brow, fixing his glasses as he told her, "You really think the only reason I got you to hold my hand was to lead me home? If I were with someone I considered a friend, I would've held onto their bag or shoulder or something."
Y/N clenched her jaw, gulping as she silently agreed with what he was saying. Man, was she that oblivious?
"None of that matters anyway." Tsukki said to her, waving his hand, "I just... Do you want to go out on Saturday?"
Y/N noticed how Tsukishima looked at her with his brows slightly turned up. He wasn't angry or irritated, more like nervous. Tsukki didn't really want to be rejected at his own home.
"I'd love to." She replied, unable to stop the smile drawing on her lips.
Tsukki nodded his head slowly, looking away. If he held anymore eye contact, guaranteed he would've blown up in blushes at her smiling face. "Good. Then we can go to the cafe a few blocks from school." He told her.
Y/N stared at him for a few seconds. Was he always this timid around her?
The girl smiled to herself at the thought. Maybe he was and she was too busy getting teased by him to notice it. She should be more attentive, huh?
As smoothly as she could, Y/N slid her hand into his and leaned her head against his shoulder. "Thank you, Kei." She said to him, playing with his hand with her free one, drawing crescent moons on his outer palm.
"Whatever." He said back as she lean off of him and sent him another smile. Tsukki bit the inside of his cheek, taking a deep breath in as he slightly turned his body towards her.
She didn't even get a chance to think when Tsukishima planted his lips onto hers. She make a small noise, shocking her for a moment. It wasn't until he rested his other hand on her cheek that she broke free from her trance.
Y/N kissed back as soon as she'd come to realise the situation. Her other hand instinctively went to his one on her cheek, laying against it as she closed her eyes. She could hear her heart beating in her chest when a second or two passed. But she didn't mind it at all.
Tsukishima pulled away, his glasses tilted on his face and his cheeks flushed deep red. His brows were creased as if he wanted more but needed to hold back. And he knew he wanted more. Needless to say, he was kinda' hot.
"Are you glad I broke your glasses now?" Y/N joked, brushing her thumb against his wrist.
Tsukishima rolled his eyes and said bsck, leaning his forehead against hers. "You need to shut up." He stated, staring at her gorgeous E/C eyes.
She giggled at him, eyes softening at the sight of him. Who would've known it'd end up like this?
"So, the soba is ready."
Y/N and Tsukki jumped back from each other, scared faces as they looked behind them. There stood Akiteru, leaning against the open doorway staring at the two of them.
Tsukki fixed his glasses and cleared his throat, "How long have you been standing there?" He glared deadly at his older brother.
Akiteru thought for a moment before replying, "The first thing I heard is that you're going on a date at the cafe a few blocks from Karasuno." Tsukishima thinned his lips. "Also, I'd recommend the brownie sundaes, they're to die for."
Y/N played with her blazer as Tsukishima told his brother to leave and that they'd be there soon. As Akiteru left, not before bidding the two 'good luvk' on their date, Tsukishima wiped his face. "Sorry about that."
"No, no, it's fine." Y/N said, waving her hands, "He's just teasing."
Tsukishima stood up, holding out a hand to her. Y/N took it, standing up and staring at the blonde. He did the exact same, knowing that Y/N would be doing it too.
He leant down and pressed a quick kiss to her lips again. "You want to eat now?" He asked, nodding his head to the house.
