Movie - The H-Man.
Released June 24, 1958.
Directed by Ishiro Honda.
Film.co TOHO ltd.
History - Ishiro Honda brings a new kind of horror to the big screen in the essence of since fiction with Bond style intrigue. One of his first films featuring the dark underground of urban japan, Ishiro Honda blended perfectly the criminal underground and scientific horror to create one of the of his greatest and well received non-kaiju films of his time.
Plot - As the night falls, the mobsters rise and the streets by storm. Drug dealers take a dangerous ride for collection when suddenly the cops are sprung into action. As the cops desperately chase one of the suspects down the street, the suspect is suddenly gone leaving only a heap of clothes covered in a mysterious substance. Bringing together not only the interest of the local mobs and police but the scientists after the claims of fisherman describing a ghost ship filled with irradiated men turned not plasma capable of digesting living flesh. With the threat falling into greater peril as mere of the creatures are found to be alive, its up to the detectives to take the case.
Personal Rating - 7.5 OUT OF 10 = This movie wasted no time getting to the grit of the plot. Ironically much darker then some of Ishiro Honda's earlier work, the only other film that can be related to this film is the film Matango. Sex, drugs, and disgusting monsters give the film an essence that has been attempted many many times and failed. While the film itself ends some what on a short note, there is no denying that Honda is not just the master of Kaiju, but the master of Japanese horror.
