Happy happies to my very own Jock(ette) of the Bushveld, my precious pretty princess...my beautiful Zemeltjie Moon! 🐕💜🌙
Here's to this next year holding more outdoorsy adventures, happy growls, play-fighting, & endless cuddles with my Sweet Baby Angel™ (h/t @myfavoritemurder)!
Made her a pup-friendly pancake stack birthday "layer cake" to celebrate, topped with some yummy all-natural treats from our buddies at Brandi's Pet Pantry! She hated wearing a bandana + little crown I made her, & had no idea what to do with herself about actually eating the cake, so of course didn't get decent photos! 😅 👑 🎂
She's shown a few more signs of her age over the last year, but is otherwise healthy & thriving as an only dog.
Now that she’s finally no longer constantly desperate after always being railroaded by other dogs, she is far less passive, has regained so much confidence, & is even happier & more well-behaved than ever before.
She's really come into her own, displaying her actual, individual personality...she's been able to demonstrate her intelligence & acute ability to communicate, as well as her silly cheekiness! She is absolutely a giant velcro dog, but she has so much trust & tolerance, has learned so much, including new tricks/commands, husbandry behaviours, & to make her own little jokes.
I've never seen her be so affectionate & playful, nor agilely run & jump, while being so precise yet gentle in the ways she does now...she's still not very interested in toys, but her favourite exception is the hard rubber Japanese baseball I found washed up on Midway Atoll!
It's so heartwarming & lovely to see her completely content & revel in being spoiled, with all attention focused on her, & getting to sleep on the bed, which she never was allowed before!
Skippy is my Rhodesian Ridgeback Mixed with Wippet, (or so I was told) is 4 years old. We rescued him from a high kill shelter and literally saved his life. In reality, he saved mine.
When we got him, he had never been in a home, had never walked up stairs. Now, he is cool as can be, sporting his valentine's sweater,( because real dogs wear pink) catching his treats.
I love ya big guy. Thank you for saving and rescuing me when you came home with us. 💜💜💜💜
