<attached is a photo all of the chairs in the break room are stacked on top of one another on top of the stack is a pokedoll>
<a video was posted watch it?>
The footage is shaky, apparently taken directly from H3X‽'s own eyes.
Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!
The sound of H3X‽'s footsteps hitting the floor as she runs is deafening.
"Cara, where did you go..." She mutters.
H3X‽'s query is met only with silence.
Unless... did something tap her shoulder, just now? Or was she imagining it?
H3X‽ feels as if she is being watched.
H3X‽ looks around, met with nothing but the dark dimness of the hall. There were times she wished her night vision actually worked. She pushes onward, hoping that maybe she'll at least find where Umbra is.
She didn't know what to do. She runs through the mismatched hallways, unsure if she's going anywhere, or just running in circles. Despite everything being mismatched, every hall looked the same; and sometimes, it felt like everything was constantly rearranging itself. She runs, confused, practically blind, wildly throwing doors open, hoping she'd find something, anything. She was about ready to admit defeat. She didn't know where she was. She wasn't even entirely sure if she was going anywhere, and she was terrified of what she might find; especially if she was involved in all of this.
H3X‽ runs through the seemingly endless twisting hallways. She doesn't even notice the thinning air in the building; only needing oxygen as a backup is a good thing sometimes, even if it scares the shit out of doctors. She does, however, notice the rising heat, which is sending her cooling systems into overdrive; but that isn't important right now. She needs to find Umbra; that's all that matters.
"She is bound to be around here somewhere... I just need to keep looking."
She is throwing open doors still; there were so many in each hall, most of which weren't locked.
From behind her, H3X‽ hears something; distant, at first, the sound of rapid thuds quickly picking up in volume as they get closer, as if something is charging through the halls after her. The sound gives H3X‽ a feeling like she's being chased, like when you shut off the lights at the bottom of a stairway and have to bolt up the stairs as fast as you can, feeling that tingle in your spine like you're anticipating the claw of some monster to grab hold of you at any second.
And then the sound reaches her, and... with a warm gust of air, every door in the hallway is thrown open.
The gust continues past H3X‽, slamming open every door it passes, and damaging a fair few of them with the sheer force that it's exerting.
After the initial shock and freezing in place, H3X‽ continues rushing down the hallway.
"Thanks, Cara," she says under her breath as she continues to run.
As she keeps running, she feels something. Not something physical, and not the presence of Cara that has been constant. This was different. It was familiar, but twisted... and it urges her in one direction.
"This is most likely a bad idea... but something tells me that I might find what I am looking for if I do this..." She mutters
She keeps heading towards the presence she felt, even if she was terrified of what she was going to find. Whatever it was, she had to brace herself.
"Damn it!"
Error 0's voice echoes distantly.
"Quickly... quickly... you're almost done!"
H3X‽ closes in on the voice's source.
"Hurry up... I need you."
Error 0's back is turned as H3X‽ soundlessly enters the room. But the scientist was, undoubtedly, her mother.
H3X‽ looks around the room in horror. This was what she was doing. Exactly what H3X‽ was afraid of. The madwoman was once again trying to play god; The very thing that had gotten the person who H3X‽ was modeled after killed.
H3X‽'s words catch in her throat for a moment; then, the words just come out. She didn't even intend to do it.
But, just as H3X‽ opens her mouth, all audio cuts from the recording. It seems that H3X‽ censored the audio of this portion before uploading it.
Error 0 whips around at the sound of H3X‽'s voice.
Her expression softens for a moment. She looks hurt.
Error 0 says something, but it's impossible to tell what. From her body language, though, she seems almost desperate as she pleads with H3X‽.
H3X‽ pleads back. There's a certain constant rhythm to her speech, giving the impression of confidence, or perhaps simply that her words are rehearsed.
Error 0 retorts, gesturing to the massive glass tank behind her. It's contents can't be easily discerned visually, but H3X‽ knows for a fact that it contains a Glitch Arceus.
Error 0 looks as if she's about to cry.
The two exchange another set of futile remarks.
The room is filled with a palpable tension, thick enough that one could swear a Sneasel could claw directly through it.
It would be easy to miss, but... starting from the top of the massive tank containing what could soon be a new god, a small crack begins to form in the glass.
H3X‽ raises her voice. Up until now, she had been keeping her distance; but her mother seemed so distraught, she slowly starts to inch forward.
Their exchange of words continues, neither one willing to consider the pleas of the other.
Error 0 seems about to break down into tears. She seems so broken and vulnerable. H3X‽ didn't know what to do, and it hurt her in her soul.
H3X‽ makes a final attempt to plead with her mother.
She steps farther into the light of the room.
She wants to hug her mother.
She wants to give her some sign that things would be okay.
She wants to comfort her.
Even without audio, you can almost make out the part where the word 'please' should be coming from H3X‽'s mouth.
When Error 0 sees H3X‽ in full view, though, her demeanor changes in an instant. She went from devastated and shattered, to full of boiling rage.
Error 0's face contorts into a scowl as she roars at H3X‽, her rage palpable even through the recording.
H3X‽ bites her tongue. The nerve of that woman...
Keeping her calm demeanor, H3X‽ mutters a response, half to herself. There's a sense of disappointment behind her words.
Error 0's rage is only further ignited by H3X‽'s response. The words screamed out in response feel like they should be loud enough to make the whole room shake.
Their shouting match continues, the heat rising around them.
The glass of the tank continues to slowly crack.
The recording's audio returns as H3X‽ turns around, hearing footsteps behind her. Rocket Z enters the room, standing hunched, exhausted-looking, with the breathing mask pressed fast over her face.
She removes it just long enough to address Error 0.
"We need to adjourn," she says. "Give back Umbra. We need to leave."
"We can't stop now! It's almost done, almost ready! We have to finish what we started, or we have done all this work for nothing!"
At that, the tension in the room quickly becomes nigh-unbearable, enough to cause one's ears to ring, as the small cracks in the glass of the Arceus' tank suddenly advance into a dense patterned web, and then to deep gashes, before the tank finally succumbs to the damage to its structure, and...!
It shatters.
The Arceus that had been suspended inside lurches forward and tumbles to the floor with a splash, in a lump of liquid and tissue.
Simon just stares, leaning forward and peering over his glasses.
Rocket Z recoils, backing away.
It's... not moving. Is it... dead? Was its creation a failure?
...
An uneasy moment passes.
And, then... The Arceus begins to stand up; its legs shaking, not used to supporting its own weight. It looks as if it could collapse at any moment.
Slowly, it turns its gaze to each of the people in the room. To Error 0, to Simon, to Rocket Z...
And, finally, it turns its gaze to H3X‽.
And it roars.
Error 0 laughs a twisted, maniacal laugh, voice tinged with the sound of crackling static.
"It's done! It's beautiful! Finally! Finally, I can get them back! It's been so long!"
From deeper in the room, the group hear the sound of a door opening, followed by staggering footsteps.
Is someone else in the lab?
A moment later, the owner came into view; a tall, skinny boy, with dark brown hair, and reddish-brown eyes. He seemed to be in some kind of stupor, and was mostly unresponsive. He looked around the room, but he didn't seem to be processing anything; as if he had just woken up from a really bad sleep.
Simon tries to speak, but the words are inaudible. Another sound had been steadily growing louder. The sound of flute music played far off. Simon bristles, and turns.
But as he does, the sound fades, and something takes its place. It was a strange rushing sound, like the sound of wind blowing past. It was strangely quiet, softer than the Poké Flute he was so used to.
But... it felt the same way. Like a sound he was certain he'd heard before but never could quite remember. His entire body trembles.
Another.
There was another.
"Get OUT!!" Simon shouts, stumbling backwards, almost losing his footing. He was still unstable, barely on his feet.
"We need to get out! We need to get out NOW!!"
It settled before the group in a flash. Eyes just a bit too far apart; two legged, or maybe four, but... were those paws? It almost looked feline, or maybe it was a lizard or a dragon. Its wings (were there wings?) fan out around it and seem to clip in and out of view as they flap.
It tilts its head at the skinny boy and the Glitch Arceus, and it lets out a snorting breath.
And, in a moment, it raises itself, and it simply steps past them, between the two. In the space where it had once been, a void seems to form; a force so powerful, it draws them towards each other. Into each other. The air crackles and spits. It wooshes again.
As Simon and H3X‽ turn back to scramble towards the entrance, they're faced with intense heat and light brighter than they had expected, red and purple and blue flames roaring through the hall.
It looks like the fire has caught up to them.
Without any other choice, the group is forced to hurry through the burning hallway before it collapses entirely; though it seems that point is fast approaching. As they approach an intersection, a burning structural beam falls from the ceiling, blocking one of the two paths they could have taken.
Simon skids to a stop as a mass of debris falls before them. It looked like the fire was catching up to them. The heat starts to play against his face, flames forcing them back, giving them no option but to turn.
Rocket Z doesn't slow. She continues down the next hall, as do Simon and H3X‽, this time just about keeping up with her. Simon is still gasping, fatigue starting to catch up with him, as was all the smoke in his lungs.
At the next intersection, a wall of flame roars up from the floor, again blocking one of the paths.
But at least there were no dead ends.
It was almost as if the flames were leading them somewhere.
Faintly, the group hears the cry of a Sneasel in the distance. It sounds weak. It... sounded like it was coming from their left...? But... it's hard to tell against the din of the roaring flames.
H3X‽ looks around their surroundings trying to see if she could see any signs of the Sneasel, now that she could actually see. Her eyes fall on a nearby wall.
"Oi, look ahead! Claw marks on the wall!"
How did she see that?
Simon perks up. That had to be Umbra. He rushes towards the door to the left of the scratches and throws it open, rushing inside, shielding his face with his arm as he does.
"Umbra!" he shouts into the room, "Umbra, is that you!?"
He was starting to pitch on his feet a little.
Inside the room is a cage, and inside that cage... is a Sneasel, lying on her stomach, trying to stay close to the floor so that she doesn't breathe in too much smoke, even if the cage being sat on a table puts her at quite a disadvantage.
She coughs, and lets out another weak cry. Her claws grip at the bars of the cage, though she doesn't have the energy to swing at them anymore. She's clearly hurt; though its hard to tell the difference in her already-dark fur, it seems she's suffered her fair share of burns.
"Umbra!" Simon gives a shout as he rushes into the room.
At last, there she was; and, luckily, still alive. A poor Ice-Type, surrounded by all that fire....
But before anyone else can approach, Rocket Z steps forwards, practically shoving Simon and H3X‽ to one side. She types a long sequence of numbers into the padlock on the cage and the door instantly pops open. She retrieves Umbra quickly, and pushes her into Simon's arms.
"Take her." she says, her voice hoarse, "Pokémon Center."
She pushes them towards the door. It doesn't look like she plans on following them back out.
Simon doesn't argue as he starts for the door.
After one last trek through the winding corridors of the lab, Simon and H3X‽ finally emerge from the massive steel door that serves as the lab's entrance.
At last. At last they were out.
Simon gasps at the feeling of cool air finally bursting upon his face, breathing a sigh of relief. He looks up at the sky, which... appears to have turned red, since they entered.
...Simon and H3X‽ hear a noise from the door, somewhere between whispers and shuffling feet. Something is behind them. Were they followed...?
Turning around, H3X‽ sees... it's Cara.
She looks worse for wear, only barely managing to once again hold together the shape that she usually projects as her body. Her hair is all sorts of roughed-up, but... more notably, she appears covered in burns, just like her companion.
She shuffles forward, before collapsing onto her knees in front of Umbra.
She clutches the Sneasel tight, and sobs.
"I'm... sorry..."
Cara and Umbra were back together. She was crying, but she was back. Through it all, they'd found each other.
Simon turns, and he finds himself instantly pitching forwards, his vision flickering. Without the pounding adrenaline keeping him on his feet, he went straight down.
H3X‽ makes a mental note to bring him to the hospital as soon as possible.
OKAY THE MONITORS ALL CUT TO STATIC AND ARE WHISPERING SOMETHING WHAT THE FUCK
Hey, H3X!?. I've been offline for... a while. I've hardly checked my PC since I last saw you in person, back in Glitch City...
I've just been busy adjusting to having Custard in the house, you know?
Anyway... How have you been, since then? Anything new going on?
... I hope nothing as... "exciting", as the whole incident with your mother.
— Cara ♥
I've been doing well. Big things are going on in the H3X!?-4C3 household. 4C3 and I got married, and we've got a baby on the way (4C3 is the one carrying the baby on account of I don't have the ability to do that). Firewall and Ariel are doing well, too
