1x12 AU – What if Steve and Kono didn't steal the money? What if Steve borrowed from a friend, perhaps Josef Kostan or Lucifer? When Steve can't give him the money back, Steve owes him a favor.
Post 2x03 – Danny reconsiders letting Steve around Grace now that he has really seen what he is capable of.

Reacher (TV show) x-over: Post 3x20 – Reacher decides to go to Hawaii because why not? He ends up getting framed for murder again because that's just his luck. Five-0 gets the case. Steve sees Reacher and looks like he's seen a ghost. Steve believes that Reacher didn't do it. The Five-0 team thinks Steve isn't thinking straight. It's up to Steve, Reacher, and Catherine to prove Reacher's innocence.
4x07 – Danny thinks Steve would actually make a good father.

Kirk Emerson (the Marine with no legs from 4x20) hears about the plane crash-landing on the news. Maybe he makes some calls or something to see if Steve survived and somehow finds out about the transplant (idk how). Kirk makes a trip to Hawaii because knows what Steve is going through.
Or maybe Joe hears about it and helps Steve adjust to no longer being in the Navy.
7x16 – Insecure!Steve based on the scene where Steve mentions his crow's feet
Post season 7 finale – Steve has one of his spells during a meeting with the governor.

never over that we got mutual pining best friends/roommates who find it impossible to live together because their UST is so thick and unbearable it makes them fight about inconsequential things IN CANON. Later when Joe White knowingly suggests that Steve has all that extra space Steve just mumbles that 'it didn't work out' 👀👀
6.11/2.09 middle of the night pillow talk. (well, Danny is on a pillow technically) 4 years apart. Danny is still a grumpy insomniac and Steve still finds him extremely adorable.
same yearning, still, after all this time, a holding pattern, the miscommunication trope. Steve desperately wants to spend time with Danny but Danny seems to dismiss any of his attempts while Danny thinks Steve would be so much happier and having more fun without him. Danny's negativity is a self-fulfilling prophecy but so are Steve's abandonment issues. Danny pushes people away deliberately so he'll be prepared for when they get enough of him while Steve leaves when he feels he's unwanted because it's better than being kicked out because he's overstayed his welcome.
they are still afraid to cross the boundary, still fighting about inconsequential stuff because they can't actually get to the heart of the matter, what's really bothering them, where the frustration with each other actually comes from. They assume they fail at co-habitation because they aren't compatible but in truth it's the unresolved romantic tension, all that pining and frustration bubbles up but there's also so much love there that they aren't willing to let go, they try so desperately to make it work somehow...when the solution is really simple. Cross that distance separating them, reach out and reach an understanding. Become that couple everyone already thinks they are.

i continue to be astounded at the shippy fanfic levels of miscommunication that steve and danny have in canon.
what steve says: i won't allow you to rent a house down the street from mine
what he means: the only move i want you to make is from my couch to my bed, i want you to stay forever but i'm too emotionally stunted to say what i want so i fall back on sounding like an authoritative dick
what danny hears: i not only cannot wait for you to move out, i'm so sick of you i don't even want you to live in my neighborhood
so blinded by their own yearning that can't see the other burn with the same flame.
*both sick with want* nope, no yearning whatsoever, not even a little pining...
2.09/5.17/6.11 - Co-habitation, the inherent intimacy of sharing a space where you sleep.
This is what these scenes/episodes have in common: domesticity and sharing living quarters for one reason or the other, and, naturally, the UST and yearning that comes with forced proximity and the notion of sharing a roof with your crush, the agony of having the object of your desire so close yet out of reach.
As their intimacy and familiarity grows the space they have to share keeps shrinking, bringing them even closer. First, it was sharing a house, next, a tiny one bedroom apartment, then one hotel room with twin beds, finally, culminating in literally sharing one bed in S10 (not pictured because CBS are cowards) .
