Ran into a few teenagers as I was heading back on my hike the other day, and they wanted to see what I was shooting out there, and got to blow their minds that this is a creature which actually exists, here, in Florida, and literally where they were walking.

The Bandana Jumper (Habronattus coecatus) is a species of jumping spider that can be found in Mexico, the United States, and Bermuda.

Here is a healthy adult male that will be featured in my upcoming book on Salticidae from North America.

Merry Christmas from a male Habronattus pyrrithrix! He’s all decked out in Christmas colors and here to celebrate the lights.

I often say that if I hadn’t been obsessed with birds from a young age, I might have had a career studying jumping spiders instead. They’re just teddy bears with extra eyes and legs!

My day was made today by finding this rare gorgeous lad spooding around in some leaf litter and oak shoots. He's habronattus alachua - I've only seen 4 adults and I love them. Sweet little fancy lumps. Enjoy. 🥹
