For now, I'll focus on just the wheel of fortune. Having Ryan wield a bow pointed towards a wolf is super beautiful. I suspect it's supposed to be his fatal choice with Chris. The other two wolves are Caleb and Kaylee. It’s such a beautiful tarot card; in fact, all of these were designed with such care.
I’d love to know everyone’s thoughts on the specific cards!!
I have a few talking points that I wanna share with Quarry fans:
1. Do you think that the Hackett brothers went to public highschool or no? If so, what were the reactions? Were students scared of them, or bullied them?
2. Is Jacob harmful or harmless?
3. Is it selfish for the Hackett’s to not immediately put down Chris, Kaylee, and Caleb after they were turned?
TWs: mental health issues, suicidal thoughts/attempt, death, mental health being handled badly.
22 during game events, 16 at the time of the Harum Scarum fire.
Speaking of the fire, he started it not only as a distraction to free Silas, but also to screw Eliza over. He was absolutely disgusted by her treatment of Silas and pretty much wanted to ruin her life by destroying her livelihood and scaring away the clientele.
Felt overwhelmingly guilty after causing the fire, both because of the amount of innocents that died and because of what happened to his family.
A few days after accidentally turning Chris and Kaylee he attempted to end it by overdosing on Constance's sleep medication.
The family handled this (after he was discharged from the hospital) by 1) a man-to-man talk with Chris and Jed that basically amounted to "you need to look forward" and "family is everything, you don't walk out on your family" and 2) the family now hides any meds under loose floorboards, a hole in the mattress (Constance) or keeps them on their person at all times. Chris keeps his heart medication in his private bathroom at the camp's lodge and made a set of keys specifically for Caleb so he can still do his job around camp but can't access Chris' private quarters or the nurse's office. Kaylee has a complete set of keys that she must keep with her at all times.
Is known to be a bit of a loose canon around town. Began having behavioural issues around age 4, when his mother Amelia died from complications after giving birth to Kaylee at home without medical attention. Due to his grief, Chris withdrew from his children for a while, and it left a deep impression on Caleb despite his uncles and grandparents trying to fill the gap.
Was the type of kid that acted out because of a subconscious desire for attention and anger issues. Attacked other kids from time to time but grew out of it by middle school, when he moved on to vandalising, shoplifting and cutting class. Even did a small stint in juvie after he smashed the windows of the local butcher's and was caught on the security cameras. Newly ordained Sheriff Hackett was able to get him out before the next full moon through a fine and community service. The whole ordeal scared Caleb enough that he stayed on the right side of the law ever since.
Was an average student when he wasn't in detention or skipping classes. After graduating he went to a nearby trade school and got licensed as an automotive mechanic.
Because he was a known troublemaker, there are whispers around town that he started the Harum Scarum fire and Travis covered it up. No one wants to come out and say it, though, because Travis is Sheriff.
Travis doesn't like Caleb much. Not just because the troublemaking reflected badly on his reputation and he's aware of the rumors (they're true, but still). He sees his nephew as having all of his brother's flaws and none of their good qualities- reckless, unreliable, impulsive and dense. It's no incident that the hikers and the journalist were killed when Caleb and Bobby were dealing with them on their own.
Bobby and Caleb are much closer.
Kaylee is the person who understands Caleb the most. She shares the guilt and the burden with him, after all, and actually went out of her way to read up on mental health so that she could help him and help herself.
Caleb was fed the same ''eldest son must protect'' rhetoric as his uncle Travis. He adores Kaylee, but unlike her, he doesn't dream. Of course, he wishes their lives were better, but he doesn't actively aspire towards anything. Just sort of drifts. And if Kaylee wants to leave, he'll go with her. He couldn't prevent himself from biting her and ruin her life, but he can look out for her while she tries to make something of it.
My question in The Quarry is: (spoilers under cut)
If the Hacketts had those three fancy werewolf-proof cages in the basement, why did they have Chris vaguely chained up in a rickety attic? And let Kaylee and Caleb run wild and free? They didn't think Silas was back in the area, to bite anyone else - Travis was surprised when Ryan said he'd seen him - so there was no reason to think any more werewolves would be made if they were locked up. The note on the receipt outright implies the cages were for Kaylee, Caleb and Chris during full moons. And if they were worried about an extra werewolf why not just - build four? Or have Kaylee and Caleb caged, while Chris was drugged in the attic? Mysterious choices made by all.
I don't think Septimus Hackett was that much of an asshole as we are made to believe.
What do we know about him? Not much, we have the letter of him and the note of the worker
"Dear valued employee,
I regret to inform youthat your service at Hackett's Quarry will no longer be required.
It's my intention to return the site of the central Quarry to an area of natural beauty by flooding it and allowing a lake to form in it's place.
You'll be paid until the end of the coming week and then asked to vacate the premise.
I'd like to thank you for your continued loyality and wish you well in all your future endeavours.
Yours faitfully
Septimus Hackett"
"Tight bastard just can't pay us! Last time I trust a Hackett"
We know when he was born:
Septimus Hackett (1890 - 1944)
The Miners Lunchbox:
"Miner's Lunchbox
The forgotten belongings of a quarry miner, abandoned in the tunnels. A letter of foreclosure within indicates that this has been down here since the 1930's
---
Septimus Hackett was running the show when the Hackett's fortune started to crumble. He was responsible for closing down the quarry all those year ago after falling on hard times."
And what Grace said in the ending:
Grace: "Septimuss Hackett - classic bad guy name - the seventh son of the trappers - the number seven has great supernatural powers - closed the mine down!"
Anton: "Okay, so then they only had the land to live off."
Grace: "Yes. You say only, but this land actually span acres."
We know that he died young with 54, he had a wife who survived him and two children, a daughter and a son.
As so often we don't know shit about anything.
I found that depending on what kind of miners they were some were earning relatively good... compared to other miners... I found the wages of coal miners. (x) (x) (x)
Others are probably better equipped to think about this...
He paid them until the end of the week. That does not sound like he did not had the money?
"Anyway, we don't know why Septimus decided to close down the Quarry and stopping to mine for the stone "Quartzite"."
Maybe he really wanted to renaturate the area, create a lake and a place for vacations?
So maybe Septimus was not a bad guy at all (even if he looks like the evil ghost from Ghostbusters).
nobody asked, but…it’s been a while since I done one of these:
• probably has never been given an affectionate nickname in his life. He’s only ever been called T by Chris and a select few.
• Have a theory he was not a planned child. Likely why Jed and Connie got married actually.
•Probably a kid who was sickly a lot. Constance often being left alone to care for him and growing to resent him as a result. Because Jed would be a very hands off father I imagine.
•speaking of Jed; Travis’s lack of emotional intelligence is probably because of him. Jed would have taught him that being a man means being a rock. The old fashion standard of not showing emotional cracks during the hard times; ‘because others will look to you to be strong for them, boy.’
^Imagine being told this at like 10, after losing a family pet or something. I think that’s the kind of thing that would have happened
•sometimes the only acceptable display of emotion to Jed was rage . Rage can be manly and can channel productivity to him when used carefully. Oh but of course Travis would still be reprimanded if he went too far with how he expressed rage. So Travis resorts to suppressing most feelings behind stoicism.
