Beware of the WiFi Hackers
Well, on Saturday I got some new neighbors, but unfortunately, they have been using programs on their devices to hack my wifi. I upped the firewall protection on the router, changed all router passwords, etc, then logged my computer back on followed by my cousins tablet. I marked those appropriately. I refreshed the page, and the devices that should not have been logged in had logged back in so i blocked them. They should not have been able to decode my password that quickly. These same neighbors have also been waking us up at 1 or 2 am, blasting music, every day since they got here.
My point in mentioning all this is, you should regularly check who is logged into your wifi routers. Some antivirus programs, like McAfee, will notify when a new device logs into the network that hasn’t logged into the network before.
When you pay for an internet service, you don’t pay for it for the public to use. To hack into someone else’s wifi is illegal, because it is theft of services. If you catch a hacker in your network, and can tell who it is by their device name, you reserve the right to sue them as well as have them locked up. I am monitoring the situation, and if it continues, I will have something done about it, including calling the landlord. Also, if you are going to hack someone’s network, make sure not to use a personally identifiable device with your name on it... and just because you don’t have a name on the device, does not mean it won’t appear on the list of devices logged into the router.
