☄️ What do people assume about them? Are they right?
Most people think that Mayke's only interest is art ( she also does swimming and ballet), they don't assume many things about her though. They don't think about her much at all actually.
Hackmatack is pretty intimidating to other people, partly because of his interesting reputation and partly because he has a glare that could kick people (thats just his resting face though). Some people also assume that hes not apart of the Baumann family, specifically in step 2 where he dyes his hair to separate himself from his family.
☁️ A soft headcanon.
Mayke prefers sleeping on the floor, and has a couch instead of a bed. She also sleeps with tons of pillows and plushies.
Hackmatack is pretty fascinated with constellations, due to Qiu introducing him to it. He likes shooting photos of them along with nature photography.
📚 How were they at school? What is their best subject? What is their worst subject? Do they have a favourite subject?
Mayke has a a little above average grades, and her best subject is English and her worst subject is Maths! She enjoys art the most though, and generally doesn't care about homework. But, she does well enough on teste to remedy it!
Hackmatack is one of if not the highest scoring students in the school, or in town. He doesn't really have any preference for subjects, but dislikes Biology due to Mr Murray. Does homework on time and studies constantly.
📎 A random fact.
Mayke has a hard time speaking in school, often tripping over her words or mumbling. Avoids interaction at all costs due to this.
Hackmatack has passed out quite a few times due to his lack of focus on his wellbeing (forgetting to eat, drink or sleep because of how busy he makes himself).

Step 1 : The Rogue of the Grove, Hazelnut Baumann!
☆ Naughty, annoying, but with a heart of gold is how anyone who knew her would describe Ms. Hazelnut Baumann!
☆ She had been a handful to her parents, and being handed to her grandparents had probably been a bad decision in hindsight. BUT! As long as Omi lets her and Tamarack eat all the sweets they want, she would be behaved (mostly).
☆ Her and Tamarack were 2 for 1 in almost everything! They always stuck together, and Tamarack had taught her a LOT growing up, even when she didn't teach the right things!
☆ While she didn't mind going the Golden Grove, Hazelnut hated the fact that her parents just gave her away like that! Who would mess up their food now?! At least she can do it at Omi and Opa's house, hehe.
☆ The thing Hazelnut was most excited for was school though. She had been homeschooling all her life and was ready for actual teachers instead of just. Her parents. Other kids didn't seem to think the same, but THEY never had to given homework by their own parents! Oh well, at least she was really smart in almost everything!
☆ However, nothing compared to Qiu Lin.
☆ She remembered when she saw Autumn for the first time. His pretty eyes had captivated her to no end... And it's not like she meant to tell him that! She's was nervous around Qiu at first, sure, but quickly warmed up to Qiu and his antics! They're basically best friends by now! Well, to Hazelnut!
☆ No matter what, her and Qiu WILL GET MARRIED!
☆ As for the rest of the boys club... She would think Darren is cute, but he's such a meanie to girls! Who even does that? And Baxter? Pretty cool when he's not close to Qiu! Oh well, at least he's handsome.
☆ And Mayke? She's so easy to scare! It's so funny to hear her yelp! She's pretty fun, except when she's being clumsy and accidently slips and/or breaks something. Hazelnut find her air-headedness kinda silly too, she seems to like Tamarack a lot!
☆ For general trivia, her favorite colors are gold, silver and bronze! Her favorite drink is tea, and she uses roller skates (not a lot though)! She also carries medical supplies like Tamarack! Though, usually Tamarack takes care of her injuries if she's there, and the same goes the other way around!
Step 2: Snap of the Camera, Hackmatack "Hack" Baumann!
◇ So, he's emo now (Or, as emo as Omi likes him to be) and a boy. He came out the moment he found out that you could just, stop being the gender you were at birth. He swore that he would've come out sooner if he KNEW that sooner.
◇ He's mellowed out at this age. He's pretty quiet, and kinda of intimidating to some of his peers. He's friendly though! As long as you don't talk crap to him, about him, or about anyone he cares about.
◇ And he's matching names with Tamarack too, much to her pleasure. Though, the kids at school usually call him Hack, courtesy of having an unusually long name.
◇ He's gained a pretty infamous reputation at school for being THE top student of their time. Straight As, multiple medals for various scores on exams and advanced classes! Some say he should get up a grade or two, but he doesn't care for that.
◇ However, just because he's more quiet doesn't mean he isn't a troublemaker anymore. Rumors say that he helps other kids (usually rebels and such) cheat in return for money and to be on their good side. However, these rumors have never been proven, and attempts to find proof have proven to be futile. It's not like anyone thinks these are false, though.
◇ He also has tendency for rebelling. The money he gets from school + his allowance lets him buy lots of stuff! He'd buy more emo clothes and stuff if he could, though Omi would start scolding him again, which tends to be irritating. He also dyes his hair with his money (his grandparents highly disapproves, but he doesn't care.). Hacks does it DIY, so it's horrible by default, but it still covers up his hair sparkle and color so its basically working.
◇ And while he has a mixed reputation at school and the town, let's just say his relationship to his family is... horrid, to say the least.
◇ To start, he despises his parents, to a deep, deep level. To think they had kids without caring about them, to think of how they neglected him and Tamarack, they just... could take them back at anytime was miserable for Hackmatack. And some people described him as miserable! The only reason his parents talk to him is because of his top grades, and his rarely good mood around them.

◇ Doesn't help that Omi just blames his mom, and Opa? Just... no. No. They get along just barely better than him and his parents, I guess. The trouble making just makes things worse though.
◇ The only one he can tolerate and even like at this point is his twin sister, Tamarack. And while he does care for her, and her for him, they tend to disagree on most things. Ever since Hackmatack started fighting with his family, the tension in the house had grown. Along with that, Tamarack doesn't like Hack potentially getting into trouble, and Hackmatack doesn't like how timid she is with everything.
◇ And... Qiu lin. Basically his soul mate at this point, no matter how much he denies it.
◇ Inseparable from eachother, Hack is the Rock to Qiu's Papers. The Moon to their Star. The truest ones to one another. Some people would say they're attached to their hips, but most would say Hack is attached to Qiu's hips.
◇ As they grew, Hackmatack had become more and more jealous over Qiu. While it's not obvious to most people, it's pretty obvious to the other members of the Cul-De-Sac 'group' [Tam and Mayke btw] and the eagle-eyed fans of Qiu.
◇They had went through thick and thin. Both of them growing colder as time went on, both of them coming out (though at very different times). Though, unlike his younger self, Hack swears theyre just friends. He couldn't imagine Qiu liking him back... he thinks.
◇ As for the other's, he thinks Mayke is a good friend, even when she stumbles over her words or gets a stupidly easy question wrong. He usually helps her with school, and sees like... a second sister? Ish? Hack really likes her mom though, all things considered.
◇ Ren... he may or may not have a crush on him. He's still a good friend though, despite the boys club disbanding. And Baxter? Arrogant, but Hack knows that he might get money by going on his good side... maybe.
◇ Thinks Serenity is kinda annoying, but tolerates them for Tammy's sake. Thinks its cool that she's goth, though. Doesn't get Vianca only talking to girls, but he dislikes how overbearing she can be on Qiu so it's not like he cares anyways.
◇ Picked up photography as a hobby when he was 11. Still does it and finds comfort in it. Usually does forest pictures but also does the night sky at Qiu's request. Knows how to play the guitar (after Tammy insisted on him joining Orchestra with her in middle school). Not particularly bad at it but keeps it a school thing than a hobby.
◇ He knows the names of certain constellations, since Qiu likes star gazing. They don't get it but finds it funny, and since then Hackmatack has been genuinely interested in astronomy. Hack is also in Marching Band and the Astronomy (i think that was the name) club, just to keep him busy from home. Has thought of doing ballet but that would give him too much on his plate so he'd pass.
◇ also his favorite colors are the same from last step n he uses roller skates okie byeeee.
