And it’s not entirely because I don’t speak much Japanese beyond a few cuisine related terms, basic greetings — and introducing myself by name: カーマイン. I picked up a few things when I taught ESL to Japanese students back in LA. My students called me Carmine-sensei (teacher) and dasai (geek). So disrespectful! And, Tokyo is up there among my fave cities, along with London and NYC. On Amazon, this unusual J-Beauty Hyaluronic Acid-powered toner is listed as Hada Labo Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist. The Hada Labo Hyaluronic Acid Lotion has been around a while, but I wasn’t paying much attention to it until I was researching forms of Hyaluronic Acid for an upcoming blog. It’s actually quite an intriguing formula with a surprising velvety texture. It has a very tight ingredient list with just 11 ingredients, 3 of which are forms of HA including Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate and Sodium Hyaluronate. A high level of Glycerin also helps power its efficacy. It contains no proven skin irritants like fragrance, fragrant plant oils and alcohol. *What I think now*: I still love the simplicity and true efficacy of the formula. It just has this otherworldly (dare I say it, alien technology!) feel to it that makes it difficult to put your finger on. Again, there’s no doubt in my mind why this is such a J-Beauty must-have *Do I miss it?*: Yes, that surprising velvety texture is everything. Ovo je pravi poklon za sve drage ljude koje želite da obradujete, ali brinete da ne pogrešite. Sa ovim proizvodom nema greške. Međutim, ovo je najbolji poklon ako želite da obradujete sebe i svoje lice.

Što se sastava tiče, da je samo za nijansu tečniji postao bi voda. Jedna pumpica je dovoljna za celo lice. Ostavlja lepljiv osećaj najviše 2-3 minuta posle mazanja i to je sve. Ako leti imate problem sa mazanjem krema na lice, ovo je rešenje i spas za kožu. Maksimalno hidrira i to se vidi i oseća na koži. Može se nanositi i više puta u toku dana. Kao podloga za šminku je posebna priča. Ovo je najsavršeniji prajmer koji sam ikada probala. Bukvalno.

Kakav efekat daje zajedno sa kremom - ne znam. Zasad znam samo da je ovo trebalo mom licu proteklih godina tokom vrelih dana, ali je Japan bio daleko. Sada Japan može da se nađe u dm-u ili na sajtu magicbeauty. Na sniženju može da bude i za 800 dinara manje od standardne cene, a vredi svaku paru. Zaista svaku paru. I zapažanja mi govore da #hadalabo ne odgovara samo onima koji još nisi imali priliku da isprobaju ovaj hidrator.

BEAUTY 101: Skincare Product Basics, Part Three: Moisturization

Before I continue, a disclaimer: I am not a medical professional, nor am I an esthetician (yet--I would like to be one someday soon). If you want personalized care, you should go to a dermatologist or a licensed esthetician.

#5: Moisturization

I think everyone knows they should be moisturizing their skin after washing it. This step is pretty straight forward in my opinion because for the most part, choosing a moisturizer comes down to just a couple of things:

Your skin type

Your budget

Of course, if you have sensitive skin, you’ll want to look for a moisturizer that is hypoallergenic and fragrance-free. If you have oily skin, you’ll need a light, oil-free moisturizer. If you’re dry like me, you’ll want a heavy-duty moisturizer for the winter. If you have more mature skin, you can find products specifically designed to smooth and hydrate your skin. 

If you have gone through the process of cleansing, toning, exfoliating and treating your skin, you need to replenish all of the moisture that might have gone the way of the Dodo. 

I use both a day and night cream, as well as an eye cream. Eye cream is important because the skin around your eyes is too delicate to put up with a regular moisturizer, especially the ones that are targeted for us dry skinned folks. I have two eye creams that I use regularly--by Hada Labo Tokyo and Benefit--and I will say that the high end product is better. 

I have not tried every eye cream at the drugstore, and if you are on a budget, you can certainly make due--the HLT cream is a good one, btw--but my thought is that the products that stay on our skin are the products we should be more inclined to splurge on if we can. You do not need much eye cream. It will last a long time because you use it sparingly. So I will probably purchase the full sized version of It’s Potent by Benefit when I am done with the deluxe sample that I own.

Day cream is the moisturizer that you put on in the morning. Night cream is what you put on at night before bed. There is a difference that is significant enough to warrant using both IF you have dry skin. Night creams are heavier, so if you have oily skin, you should still moisturize at night but your regular moisturizer will probably be enough for you.

My favorite moisturizer to use when I am wearing makeup is my Boscia Revitalizing Black Hydration Gel--my bathroom gets hot quickly so I tend to need a cooling moisturizer when I put foundation on (otherwise I’ll sweat like a guilty politician). If I’m not wearing makeup, I use a few different moisturizers: sometimes I will stick with my Hada Labo Tokyo hydrating serums (they really moisturize well); I’ll wear my L’Oreal Youth Code Texture Perfector or even my Jergens Natural Glow moisturizer for the face if I decide not to wear foundation. Try to find a day cream with SPF, even during the winter.

At night, I love using my Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins night cream. It makes my skin feel absolutely gorgeous in the morning. Again, this is a product I will probably buy a full size of when I am done with my deluxe sample. I also use my Hada Labo Tokyo Skin Plumping Gel Cream at night because it is just too heavy for the day time.

That is a great way to try new products, by the way. Get samples when you can. If you order online from most companies, they will give you samples for free. You can also sign up for a subscription service like Birchbox ($10 a month), which is how I found out about my Benefit eye cream.

Moisturizing has so many benefits. For one, it makes your skin feel comfortable. But also it keeps your skin young-looking and healthy.
