I think Jesse is always giving dslur whether it's transfem dslur or transmasc dslur so it was a rhetorical question of course it would be yuri. "Analysis where Jesse is textually treated the same way many of the women in the show are treated" taken to its natural conclusion (all sex that Jesse has in the show is lezzing out)

i love this ask and i do not get this incredulity often because i either get bonked in the head by my friends who are normal or i get people Understanding

so it goes like  this: i’m the world’s worst anti and i enjoy ships that are problematiqué as a treat. my recent type of ships involve a) age gaps, b) power imbalances or c) unhealthiness or a combination of the above. i made a whole comparison table about it and i do indeed see a pattern. shoutout to walt/jesse for being just a worse house/chase.

anyway. my thoughts go as follows: i think that reading them as extremely unhealthy father/son is lame as hell. yall are boring. so i just put a little bit of spice on it. i do think that if there was anything nonplatonic it was largely like, a big ol’ unrequited crush on jesse’s part (stop seeking approval from old men jesse you’re better than this), but also the mere fact that walt is frequently like “no but i LIKE jesse” whenever someone is like “thats a 23 year old junkie please stop doing business with him” is like... kinda weird and kinda fruity on his part.

Anyway I was wondering if you had any specific headcanons on Niles choosing the name Niles—is it still from Hester’s lab rat, but this Niles chose it herself? What about the name appealed to her? like you said, it’s been a while, so please forgive me if i’m completely contradicting something i’ve said earlier on the matter (or worse still, something literally in the text). BUT i believe my thinking was, yes, it’s still the rat’s name, and niles chose it from that source. if memory serves, the thinking here was basically 1) wanting to in some way assert a continued familial connection 2) a little sprinkle of self-hatred.

i think i talked about this latter point a little bit with regard to the bostonian, but i can’t remember if it was in private or on here, so to reiterate, as much as my choice to have daphne identify w/ rats was a) an ode to her rat-raising past b) a convenient tool to draw her closer to lilith, it’s also not like... the world’s least charged animal. there’s... a lot that can be (and has been) said about people’s relation to rats, and i think the choice to associate oneself w/ an object of disgust (which, at the same time, is very easily anthropomorphized) is quite rich in a lot of ways here. if we were to fuse these timelines, it would also be another potential source of connection between niles and daphne. i doubt if i’ll ever get around to writing that, but it’s certainly got some layers.

in any case, since this kind of suggests that niles chose her name prior to the canon journal discovery in s4 (i think?), i’m going to decide that that episode is replaced by her reading, like, kafka’s letter to his father or something and having that subconscious decision to identify herself with Vermin (tm) brought to the surface. identity crises ensue.

Kind of a random ask but you seem like you could have an opinion on this, one way or another. Which version of Gob's line from the pilot do you prefer, "A trick is something a whore does for money...or candy" or "...or cocaine"?

i’ve actually thought about this a lot so forgive me for my entirely TOO well thought out answer but as funny as “or cocaine” is, i will always always always prefer “or candy” because the cocaine line does not seem as in character for gob. the joke here is obviously that he realizes what he’s said is not child appropriate and is making an attempt to fix it yet in that attempt he’s correcting the entirely wrong thing. he’s trying his best though!!! the cocaine line doesn’t really enforce his character the way the candy one does. also “or candy” gives me big “sex bears” vibes from parks and rec which is always funny

Started watching Frasier for Niles and fell in love w Lilith.... should I watch All of Cheers

oh you’ve come to exactly the right place, since i myself watched All of cheers for lilith based only on my impressions of her from frasier. having done so, i can say that it’s... it’s a choice.

i definitely suggest that any frasier fans who love lilith check out a few of her major cheers episodes (e.g., abnormal psychology, dinner at eight-ish, rat girl, smotherly love). aside from the Lore, we also get to see her having fun and being weird in a different way than is possible in her guest appearances on frasier, which i feel tend to be a little more centered on the characters’ emotional arcs. (this is good and cool, but having that alone can, i think, give a limited impression of the nature of lilith’s character.)

on one hand, if you only watch the lilith episodes, it’s entirely possible that you’ll never really like cheers as a show--most of the lilith content is in later seasons, and, to be totally honest, the later seasons aren’t as good. are they season 8 of frasier bad? probably not. but the kind of character arcs we see in late!cheers don’t have the same intensity as those in earlier seasons. the lows might never go so low as “daphne goes to fat camp because we’re misogynists who just couldn’t find a better way to address an actress’s pregnancy for some reason,” but there aren’t the same highs as we see in the first few seasons of the sam-and-diane relationship. it’s very much a classic for a reason imo, and if you just watch major lilith episodes, you won’t get those same highs.

HOWEVER, you may have noticed that cheers is a couple hundred episodes long. you may also have a life that complicates your watching that many hours of a show when you only care about one character who shows up halfway through and remains pretty minor for most of the show. when i was watching, i probably checked bebe neuwirth’s imdb page every three episodes hoping for another appearance. so, if you don’t intend to become invested in any of the more central cheers characters (personally, i’m a diane gal), it’s going to be a bit of a drag. but if you’re not sure whether you’ll care about any of them, the pilot’s honestly pretty good, so it may be worth checking out.

so tl;dr live your dreams. if you’re hesitant about committing to another eleven-season sitcom, watch a few episodes to feel it out. & if you end up deciding against watching the whole series, definitely feel free to ask for more recommendations of lilith episodes :-)
