“If I want?” Phoebus echoed back, amusement in his eyes as he turned to watch Solus getting himself comfortable. Running an empire was hard work, and he was always glad to see him finding time to rest and take care of himself. “I am insulted that you would doubt my willingness to stay at your side, especially when you’ve asked me so nicely. I will be here as long as you wish it.”
While he had taken special care to ensure that the Emperor’s clothes had remained wrinkle-free before he settled down for his nap, Phoebus took no such measures with his own clothing, moving to lie down at the other man’s side without a passing thought about the nobles and their gossip.
“Whether or not this is the right decision is something that only time will tell. I think it’s quite admirable for you to have doubts, actually. It shows a sense of self-reflection and an acceptance that even you are capable of making mistakes. To lack such qualities would make you no better than the tyrants we once lived in fear of, and I’m certain you are aware that it would then become my duty as a reaper to slay you, if that were the case."
He let out a chuckle— a silent one, but a chuckle nonetheless. “But if you were looking for my opinion on the matter at hand, I think it would be wise to at least consider possible options for a future alliance.”
