so we all know how the haikyuu fandom heard someone say "akaashi is canonically weird" because he was the first 'oya' and ran with it? like, suddenly every akaashi fic was him being weird to an extensive degree and such. he would say cheesy pickup lines, message you about frogs and whatnot.
i want this with osamu. hear me out. not the weird part, but i want people to understand he's canonically the more freaky twin. many write fics of samu being composed and calmer, and tsumu having a higher sex drive and more flirty in general—well boy do i have news for yall
now dont get me wrong tho. atsumu having a higher sex drive is fine. osamu being the more collected twin is also fine. but when they both shared a crush on saeko, OSAMU was the one to go up and ask her out. hes more bolder (and while that doesnt necessarily equate to freakiness, i like to think it does). in other words— osamu has bolder advances, he is quicker to try for a girl, and he is not afraid to voice his romantic/sexual interest in girls.
Sometimes I stop and think about all of the stuff that went down with Oikawa and Kageyama in middle school. And of course I’m mad on Kageyama’s behalf, because he was just a little dude and he didn’t do anything but exist, and he absolutely did not deserve to be treated that way.
Thing is, I get mad on Iwaizumi’s behalf too. That’s what this post is about. I think folks pin a lot more of the responsibility for Oikawa’s bad behavior to him than he deserves.
Number one, Oikawa’s poor decisions are his and his alone. He is the one who bullied Kageyama and he is the one who tried to slap a twelve year old out of jealousy. Iwa didn’t do any of that and is shown actively telling Oikawa off for it.
Number two. I’ve seen several folks call him an enabler in reference to that time. I strongly disagree. Iwaizumi was 14/15 and doing his best in a hard situation where he was forced to be the adult because the actual adults couldn’t be bothered to step in and do their jobs. His best friend since childhood was self-destructing and already pretty unstable. If Iwa would have turned his back on him, who knows what would have happened. So he couldn’t “take Kageyama’s side” too much or else it would just make Oikawa spiral further. But Oikawa also shouldn’t have been treating Kageyama like dirt, and Iwa knew that, and he called Oikawa on it. It was a balancing act of trying not to make Oikawa worse while also trying to do what he could to stop him from bullying Kageyama.
Again. Iwaizumi was 14, maybe 15.
I don’t understand how people can look at that and see an enabler. I just see a 14/15 year old kid who’s been put in a position he never should’ve had to fill and is doing his best to try and keep everything pulled together, BECAUSE THE ADULTS AREN’T DOING ANYTHING.
See, that makes me mad too. This should’ve never been a thing to begin with, because the adults should’ve nipped it in the bud right from the beginning and made it clear that Oikawa and Kageyama were teammates and Oikawa should act as such. It never should’ve gotten to the point where it became Iwa’s responsibility. And yet, for some reason, folks are expecting a literal child to have handled this with more maturity than the actual adults and authority figures present?
I just don’t get it, y’know? And YES, I am absolutely upset that Kageyama was treated the way he was. I’m not dismissing the fact that it had a serious negative impact on his life and his ability to interact with other kids. I’m just saying I think folks should stop holding Iwaizumi responsible for Oikawa’s actions, and maybe cut him a little slack since he was 14/15 and doing the best he could in a bad situation with the maturity and knowledge he had at the time. And he was still doing leagues better than the adults.
Anyways. Iwaizumi is a favorite of mine, so maybe I’m just biased. Maybe I don’t see the things others see. I don’t know.
Just. Can we normalize holding Oikawa accountable for his own actions instead of blaming Iwa?? I don’t care how pretty you think Oikawa is. He is the one that messed up, and that should be on him. He shouldn’t need Iwa to babysit him and make him play nice, or to keep him from smacking a twelve year old.
Note: I don’t hate Oikawa. I love the dynamic between Oikawa and Iwa, and Oikawa has actually been a comfort character of mine. Point is, I am not saying this to try and make people hate him or to bash him. I’m saying it because I think it needs to be said. Folks in this fandom let him get away with wayyy too much and don’t always put the blame where the blame is due.
And I know this reads like I think Iwa didn’t do anything wrong. That’s not the case. I’m not saying he’s blameless, especially when it comes to his own treatment of Kageyama. It doesn’t look like he tried very hard to be a good upperclassman in his own right, since he was busy with Oikawa, and that is absolutely on him. Who knows what could’ve changed if he had tried a bit harder in that relationship? Maybe Kageyama wouldn’t have struggled so much through the rest of middle school if he had someone to take him under their wing that first year, someone he could turn to when he needed help or support.
I’m absolutely bitter that they didn’t get to have a good senpai-kohai dynamic. I want that for both of them so bad, because I think they both would have benefited so much.
Anyways. Iwa has his own issues that I will happily fault him for. I’m just tired of him getting blamed for Oikawa’s stuff as well as his own XD
Im getting back in to haikyu because its sooo good but y'all.
No one can convince me that this man is a complete gentleman, caretaker and kindest man. This bitch be roasting bokuto has a pastime, theres that moment where he called him out for failing his math test!?😭
This guy 50% kind and all
50% sarcastic mean and not giving a single fuck.
I swear im every fic i see he's the kindest bitch ever like bro. This man ain't your dreams he just got common sense. Anyway yea enough ranting
An anime about men is about honor and like the four women are sexualized
Sexualize those fucking men goddammit they’re wearing short shorts! Where the ball shots?! What underwear they wearin?! BOKUTO'S ASS IS MY LIFE WHERE IT AT?!?!?!?!
I don't understand why Kuroo is portrayed as an asshole when he's actually nice and funny and cares about his teammates. Being cunning has nothing to do with being an asshole.
