Mozart in the Jungle | 4.04 "An Honest Ghost"
Okay I'm watching the last season of "Mozart in the Jungle" rn and I have to get sth of my chest...
I dislike Hailey more and more. Rodrigo just can't reach her incredibly high and fucking confusing expectations. He is so in love with her and she constantly seems like she wants to get away. She's never satisfied. Like, wtf do you want from him? He's your biggest supporter and when you want him to be honest with you, he is. But then it's too much for you to handle? (s4ep7) And when he clearly needs your help (because he's being harassed by psychos who think he is a demon and not the real Rodrigo) YOU JUST LEAVE HIM TO GET DRUNK?! WTF?!
He deserves better.
every single time rodrigo de souza says "hai lai" on mozart in the jungle
honestly i made this video for purposes of individual entertainment only, but if you’re in the mood to listen to gael’s rodrigo de souza say Hai Lai for six minutes straight, who am i to stop you, right? be my guest. also tag yourself, i’m timestamp 0:34
So I started watching “Mozart in the jungle”about two weeks ago, and I loved it. It’s really funny and it’s one of my favourite tv shows now. But I’m refusing to finish the last two episodes because I’m so annoyed and upset about hailey dumping Rodrigo. They’re soulmates and I love them! Also Ik that the show got cancelled (why Amazon why!?) and I’m still recovering from “I’m not ok with this” being cancelled and the cliffhanger never being resolved. I don’t want to go through that w this gem of a show 😭.
Why do all the good shows get cancelled when shows like riverdale, which make my eyes bleed, are still running?
Rewatching Mozart in the jungle 3x05
When Hailey asks Rodrigo if he is in love with Alessandra, he screams “Why do you ask me that question? You, you of all people, why do you ask me that?”. He obviously feels guilty because his declaration of love was out of his impetuosity and his attraction towards beautiful and complicated female artists, but I think it’s more than this.
Rodrigo is hurt because Hailey should know better: he is a “whirl of contradictions”, eccentric and overdramatic, but especially devoted to music, so he’d say or do anything just for the love of it. What’s more, after all that’s happened in the first two seasons, Hailey should be aware that he has feelings for her, no matter whom he’s sleeping with or what he says. Rodrigo is basically saying: “Why do you ask me that question? You know me better than anyone else, my abuela told you we are going to be soulmates, so how can you believe I could love another woman?”.
By This River (A Mozart in the Jungle fanfic)
For @paperback-writer0807
*** Here we are Stuck by this river, You and I Underneath a sky that's ever falling down, down, down Ever falling down.
***
She sits quietly, her oboe in her hand, playing the notes softly. It’s a difficult piece to play, and a part of her has grown a little frustrated with the complexity of the music. Still, she keeps playing. There’s something soothing about playing her instrument in the rain, watching the water trickle down the gutters of the apartment. As the stream of water races by her feet, she can’t help but think about how long the day has been, how challenging the past few weeks have been, and how constant her life seems to keep flowing on. Especially without him.
***
Through the day As if on an ocean Waiting here, Always failing to remember why we came, came, came: I wonder why we came. *** He watches the rain from the gymnasium, trying to keep up a smile as the children ask for his attention, enthusiastically seeking a critique on this piece or that note or the other. He loves it, and there’s nothing he’d rather be doing, but his heart isn’t entirely with them. Instead, it’s in the rain, sitting by the side of the woman he loves. He doesn’t want to admit that the current of life has swept him apart from her just yet, but the vacant spot in his phone contacts where her name used to be is enough to remind him of that very fact. A part of him wishes he could just throw the damn thing into the stream. Maybe that might take the edge off of the endless waiting, the longing for a single reply to his last message. He sighs heavily, wondering if that day will ever come. *** You talk to me as if from a distance And I reply With impressions chosen from another time, time, time, From another time.
***
When she finally sees the message, it’s a couple weeks later.
She’s going through her phone, scrolling through the endless unread messages she hasn’t bothered to answer (notes from the orchestra, from her best friend, from the Maestro she first played for), and she happens to stumble upon one from a number she swore she had deleted.
Curious, but also somewhat confused by the message, she opens it, and is greeted with two simple sentences.
<I miss you. Want to join me for coffee sometime?>
She can’t help but smile a little as she types the reply. <Sure. Where do you want to meet?> <Up to you. You know I can’t make decisions easily.> <Yeah. Oh BTW, I’ve missed you too.> <Meet at Lizzie’s dive bar tonight? Coffee sounded good at the time, but I’m thinking about taking the edge off with something a little stronger.> <Sounds good. Meet at seven?> <Works for me. Talk to you later.>
She smiles a little and tucks her phone back in her pocket. As she gets up, she can’t help but wonder if Japan was really what she felt in her heart... or if there was something more she wasn’t seeing.
