i prefer closed over open starters! so long as you’re not favoring anybody and respecting all the responses to your starter/plotting call – if you made one – then i think they’re much better at pushing a plot or character development forward
👏 WORD 👏 COUNTS 👏 ON 👏APPS 👏 it’s like the definition of a win-win situation. admins aren’t sifting through dozens of mini theses and applicants don’t feel pressured to put literally every thought they’ve ever had about a character down onto the page. we shouldn’t have to sacrifice an arm and a leg and a virgin to get a shot at a role; likewise, admins shouldn’t have to spend 24+ hours reading novels worth of character backstories. if you have something to say about your character you should be able to say it in ?? under 5k words ??
people are so cagey about their ocs. i get it. i am too. we’ve all heard the horror stories about copy and pasting or stealing character concepts; some of us may have even been victims of it ourselves ( unintentionally or not – which is a whole other story. there is n fact such a thing as unintentional plagiarism ! ) but like i promise you – i promise you you are not the first person to write a white boy with rage issues and a shitty father figure. you’re not the first person to write a mysterious femme fatale with dark hair who smokes. and that’s fine! they’re tropes for a reason, but that’s not what plagiarism is folks
