One of the best walks I’ve done relatively close to Auckland, the Hakarimata Walkway is an absolute gem close to Huntly. Huntly is somewhere that most people drive through on their way south from Auckland to Hamilton and beyond, but I found it well worth a day spent exploring.

Day 2791.

800 km so far (well almost - 798.7) halfway through the north island! Enjoying the last few hours of a really well-deserved zero in Hamilton. This week hasn't started very well for me. Hives and eyeswellings from gorse, a hurting hip, and a trip to unicorn land (caused by a antihistamine pill which turned out to be a strong sleeping pill). The way from Auckland to Hamilton hasnt been too bad. Except one muddy forest which i liked to call a fucking death trap. The #Hakarimata forest was the prettiest one so far! (If anyone would be interested in a day hike - id recommend this one) The #Pirongia summit is coming up the day after tomorrow with our highest peak so far - almost 1000 m! 😰 just thinking of it makes me nervous BUT i have to stop whining about summits because there will be more and i know i can conquer them AND ive got lighter gear, so i am going to rock these mountains. 😁 My dear friend @walkingwithwired got me a new backpack (ULA) and a tarp tent (basically weighs nothing). AND a reader (his name is David) of her blog supports her with gear and he offered to get me some things as well because my things were "way too heavy" or not warm enough.😁 He's got me a down sleeping bag, a down jacket, hiking pants, a rain jacket and much more!!! How could I be so lucky?? This is the most wonderful thing ever! ❤ #TeAraroa (📷: @walkingwithwired )
