I remember when I didn’t like Neru (2011-2013) so I made her the snobby popular girl who bullied Haku in my stories and tried to steal Akaito away from Haku :/
There was even the scenario where Akaito was a prince in an arranged marriage with Neru, the princess of the Golden Kingdom, but Akaito instead falls for Haku, the white-haired outcast, and wants to marry her instead. So Neru poisons Haku’s drink. And the only thing that can wake Haku up from the effects of the poison ends up being a kiss of true love. With Akaito. How predictable. Like seriously how much more cliche can you get.

I used to think of Neru and Haku as good friends before my Haku/Akaito phase but every Vocaloid fan I knew at the time hated Neru and I guess it rubbed off on me and I started hating Neru too
I’m never going to forgive myself for that tbh
Honestly the other reason I hated Neru was the all-too-stupid reason of “She takes Akaito away from Haku!” Yeah, like Vocaloid even has canon in the first place, right?
But an interesting (and gayer) interpretation of this triangle would be Neru actually being jealous of Akaito, because she likes Haku. But she’s in denial and convinces herself she likes Akaito and takes it out on Haku, partly because she likes her and doesn’t know how to express it.
...But I’d much prefer Haku and Neru just being together without any conflict lol.
