February 8th, 2019 is an evening that will forever be imprinted into my memory. That night, I witnessed what’s certainly one of my favorite live shows of the year at Popscene, and what will likely go down as bragging rights in the near future when Long Beach song slingers half·alive become the next big thing in the music scene and start playing the largest stages. Sure, they’re already getting pretty popular, but come the release of debut album ‘Now, Not Yet’ on August 9th, these men will be kings. I went into the show expecting to take in a great set, but I was blown away by their energy, by their clever use of the stage, by their ingenious choreography, and by how well their songs translated live. half·alive are true performers, on top of being sensational musicians who can really write and deliver exceptionally hooking indie pop/dance rock songs. Ahead of their debut album comes their latest single, Pure Gold, a joyous and euphoric triumph from the three piece. Like most of their other hit singles so far, Pure Gold (and their performance charisma) is like the best of Two Door Cinema Club and twenty one pilots all rolled up in one, from the vocals to the drum rolls to the absorbing melody.
