Urak often has trouble explaining exactly why she looks the way she does.
I mean, it’s easy to point out the Halfling feet and her orc fangs but not so easy to suffer through the giggles and snorts when the inevitable image of such a couple making the beast with two backs comes to them.
it is easy however, with the strength inherited from her mother, to knock them flat. Never too hard. she doesn’t try to hurt people too badly anymore, she’s gotten better restraining her and now, as a cleric she even considers herself a pacifist.
But some people just ask for it.
And years of growing up rough on the streets of neverwinter don’t die easy.
It hurts Urak sometimes to know how her looks hurt her mother. It can’t be easy for her, to have her only child with so little of her own traits, only her strength and her teeth reflecting her orc parentage and the rest of Urak almost the spitting image of her no good, cowardly elf scat of a husband.
Urat never hid him or his deeds from her daughter. She taught Urak all she knew about the Halfling, an adventurer who had stumbled across her tribe, quite by accident. He had wooed Urat with poetry and his moustachioed grin and convinced her to leave and abandon all she knew.
all for love! he had cooed as they snuck away from her family and friends,
the world is our oyster! he sighed as she listened to his stories and adventures, laying on the cold hard forest floor.
Urat, young and a romantic, had believed him, all his promises, all his proclamations and when they arrived in Neverwinter, newlywed by a cleric they met on the road there, was prepared for a hard year, prepared to work hard, to earn their happy end.
What she was not prepared for, was upon her telling him the joyful news that they had a baby coming (with your hair and my eyes! she had exclaimed, her hands engulfing his as she held them to her stomach, eyes gleaming excitedly) was his exit.
she had awoken alone in their rented room the next day, her back pack sat by itself in the corner, the rent due on the week next and a note.
It was a page and a half of excuses and self pity and gilded lies.
Urat was heartbroken for a moment.
Her next move was to pawn the ring to buy some armour.
she’d been a training warrior back home, she could get some guard work easy, she might have some issues with being an orc, but she’d find something.
She’d provide like he wouldn’t.
And when Urak was born, in the hideout of a gang her mother had joined as a bruiser, a dragonborn rogue as her midwife, Urat saw she did have her father’s hair, she had a lot of his everything but Urat promised herself that was all her child would have of her father. Just genes.
And she promised her daughter that she would never need anything more than her mother. that her mother would provide.
another random roll for funsies. I love Urak, she was so fun to make and her mum is just a badass. She and her mum grow up tough, Urat earns for herself and her daughter at first as a bruiser for gangs. Then as Urak grew older, they both realised that she’d also inherited, on top of his looks, her fathers light-footedness. She was also smaller, able to sneak into places her 6 ft mother was not. They started burgling on the side, at first small joints and then eventually gained a bit of a reputation and accrued their own little gang. Their scores got bigger, their hits richer. They never burgled the poor.
they were better than that.
I’ll explain how Urak comes to be a cleric another time, i feel like this is enough writing for one post!
anyway, she’s mine!
