Two very different personalities.
Here's an interesting peice I did a while back detailing a big difference (and point of contention) between Lucy and her sister Mavis. While Mavis admires humanity so much she wants to be like them and thinks her monsterousness makes her "Weird" and "freaky," Lucy LOVES being a monster and takes pride in her oddities, and while she can understand wanting to get out and see the world and admires her sis for that... she just doesn't get why Mavis is so ashamed of her monstrosity or what others think.
Lucy hasn't lived with the same fears or racism Mavis did, grew up with far more freedom, and her human mom is actually INTO monstery things and sees no reason why she shouldn't raise her kids in their home surrounded by family. After all, "Human, Monster, Unicorn. What's the difference?"
So the fact Mavis almost moved away from the hotel because she thought Dennis wouldn't be happy there seems crazy to her.
To a goth girl like Lucy: even as adventurous and curious as she is, the hotel is the coolest place ever in the whole wide world. And most of the family she's known live there. Why would Mavis want to move half way around the world to live with people she and Dennis didn't even really know? Let alone didn't really know how to treat them ("No one calls Dennis a wimp! No one picks on him! And No one disses Kakie 'round my nephew but ME!!!") OR appreciate monster culture. Why wouldn't Dennis be happy here? This place is AWESOME! He had a whole CASTLE full of family and friends! Weapons to play with! Secret passageways! Monsters and humand of all kinds to meet! And besides, Mom, Simon, and Johnny LOVE it here!
It's kind of similar to how I feel Ericka would be about hearing about how Drac and Mavis handled Dennis, but Lucy doesn't quite have her mom's finesse or calm authority. OR her brother and father's fear of confrontation. (Though she DOES have the HT rubberiness. XD) She will NOT hesitate to try and call Mavis out on her bullshit. She's also a clever, determined little fucker who doesn't take kindly to being LIED to.
This comes in part from criticism of the film from @lovelylivelyv , who makes great points about Mavis pulling much the same thing as Drac in HT2 while Drac gets all the flack for it. Her stance is more understandable and sympathetic in the novelization, but I like having Lucy and Ericka around to be the ones to call out Mavis' (and Drac's) hypocrisy a lil bit.
