People joking around Lara's dad looks like a girl and theorizing he changed gender because some fish can change their gender. And all I remember close to that is the Merfolk King in Onmyoji RPG. Basically in Onmyoji RPG, the merfolk is dominated by women and a queen usually eat her husband(as in literally) after giving birth. Man fought back and kill the queen. He kinda question if his wife truly love him or only see him as food. In addition to that, the husband usually became a woman once their wife died. So yeah he pretended he's his wife aka the queen. Yep, he's a game boss. Nevertheless, I like his design so much because its giving Tamamonomae vibe.

I keep saying I don’t like comedies but I keep watching new ones that surprise me. Part of the reason I wanted to see Tag was Jeremy Renner but the trailers also made it look like a fun, crazy movie. And it was.

I totally agree that as you get older keeping in contact with your friends from childhood or even college isn’t easy. My closest college friends live in the same city as me and we still struggle to find time in our schedules to hang out. So for this group of guys to take a month of every year and play a game of tag is kind of amazing.

I have to admit that Jeremy Renner’s character, Jerry, was actually kind of a jerk. He was so focused on not being “it” that he forget the whole point was to have fun together. And he takes the game way too seriously. The scene where they follow him into the forest and he plays “Crazy Train” was super intense.

The other four guys were all into the game as well, and sometimes over the top, but mostly just in the spirit of fun. Their attempts to outwit Jerry just end so badly. And Hoagie’s wife is also like crazy intense and I can totally understand why they never wanted to play tag with her. She’d kill them all. It’s interesting how Hoagie, Randy, Callahan and Sable can all be relatively functioning adults but you take them back to their home town and they act like kids again. Fighting over girls, hiding drugs in their parents basement, hanging out at the same bar.

But overall the story is about friendship and having fun, having those lifelong connections and knowing that no matter how much time has passed you can still rely on these people. It was a really funny movie and I love how they adapted the story (they show some clips of the real guys during the credits and they’re hilarious). It’s a good movie about growing up and keeping your friends close and not being afraid to have “childish” fun.

how eerie to hear they're going to remake carrie. how eerie to hear they have made the mother into some kind of gentle well-meaning figure.

carrie is almost explicitly about the cycles of abuse. it is almost explicitly about how women and girls are taught to reproduce the patriarchy. it cannot be isolated from either message.

it shows cruel teenagers not as a random whacky plot point but instead to highlight that we are taught to mock other girls for not being fuckable; lest we ourselves be considered not-fuckable. we will eat our own kind to survive. nobody helps her because to help carrie would be to turn against the patriarchy.

carrie's mother has experienced abuse at the hands of her husband and religion not as a "sad backstory" but instead because it lampshades her behavior when she then turns and abuses her daughter while citing that same religion. we are forced to ask the question: what is the difference between the patriarchy and religion? aren't they both systems of control? we often see mothers as being the "ultimate" in innocence and kindness - but this book challenges that narrative. abusive mothers exist, and and always have. abusive women exist and always have. white women, after all, love voting for donald trump.

men are almost absent from the book, but their presence lingers. it feels almost like the red mark made after a slap - the men do not have to be there; the women will continue to abide by the rules without question. it is a devastating, haunting condemnation of the notion of feminine fragility. it accurately asserts that women are cruel, are capable, are power-hungry - and often are hiding behind perceived innocence to mask that cruelty. the abuse carrie experiences rests in a doubled betrayal: it is because of another woman. the supposed "sisterhood" is revealed to be thin, a guise of equanimity that is only offered to the "right" type of girl/woman.

many of us were not the right type of girl.

to go back on these main and obvious themes of the book - to rewrite the mother as some caring and sad creature is... a curious choice. i can't explain it, but it feels almost like censorship to me. it refuses a deeper meaning of the book (and one that questions the patriarchy) in favor of the incredibly thin plot of "what if scary girl had scary powers." i literally don't even know what level of misogyny it is that we have to defang everyone around her in order to tell her story. i'm baffled by it.

in the era of trad wives endlessly posting abusive content of their children online - the adaptation had plenty of meat to modernize her mother. in the era of AI and revenge porn and social media - there's a huge amount of space for a competent writer to play around in. after all, if the abuse is recorded and posted to media - and as the audience we're watching it without interfering - the story is now about us. it asks us who we are comfortable bullying.

it's okay if you feel like you don't have the writing chops to talk about how many religions are abusive and tacitly enable domestic violence. it's okay if you feel like you couldn't write a believable teenage bully. it's okay if you're just interested in "scary girl has scary powers."

but maybe, i don't know, choose a different fucking story?

I dislike the idea of her as a gentle and kind good mom, or a badass lioness, or a young woman trying her hardest to protect and raise her son

She's a awful mom and not even trying, but she IS the most complex person of KHR

She is obssessed with Sawada Iemitsu to the point of self-harming

She denies reality and lives in fantasy

She lost 16 years of her life with a criminal man that abandoned her with a baby alone in a big house in a small town without family or friends

She is barely sane and nearly to the point of a psycotic break

With goals totally different than Iemitsu and Vongola, but still awful.

Sawada Nana is not on Vongola's side, they don't care about her and hurt her and her son, but she's on Iemitsu's side and has her own goals and won’t defend Tsuna

She's annoying and fake-maternal and acts like a childish teen girl

She has abandonment issues and depression, she's frail mentally and physically and faints in the manga and is powerless

Yet I think Tsuna should abandon her

She wants Tsuna to stay forever with her in the Household/Namimori so they can wait for Iemitsu to come home and play happy family.

Sawada Nana is part of the cage and clingly to him and refuse to let him leave for a better life.

Nobody cares if she suffers because of Iemitsu or if she loses her son...

I don't want her to suffer because of Iemitsu, but I don't her to be happily in her fantasy while Tsuna suffers.

She should suffer by begin called out and forced to face reality and lose her son? Maybe

Any 'healing' for her involves suffering and begin forced to confront reality with medical help and having her child taken from her. Not keeping her in the dark and playing house.

"Nana deserves better" but she doesn’t WANTS better, she wants her darling Iemitsu-kun home
