"A country born from the ashes of injustice would limit its practice of injustice..." "There are some things that are so unforgivable that they make other things easily forgivable..." This is an account of the Nigerian Civil War by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It explains events before, during the war, and the aftermath of the war. She wrote: "Starvation was a Nigerian weapon of war. Starvation broke Biafra and brought Biafra fame and made Biafra last as long as it did. Starvation made Zambia and Tanzania and Ivory Coast and Gabon recognize Biafra. Primary schools, schools generally turned to refugee camps." She wrote of the Biafran's cloth flag and what the symbols meant: 📌 Red for the blood of the siblings massacred in the North, the Biafrans who died during the Nigerian Civil war, the famine during the war, as well as those who died prior to this in the Igbo pogroms in the Northern Region. 📌 Black is for mourning of those who died. 📌 Green and Gold represent the prosperity and bright future for Biafrans. 📌 11 rays of the sun represent the eleven former provinces of Biafra. 📌 Half of a Yellow Sun stood for the glorious future of Biafra. "...Land of the rising sun we love and cherish Beloved homeland of our brave heroes We must defend our lives or we shall perish We shall protect our hearts from all our foes But if the price is death for all we hold dear Then let us die without shred of fear." ~Baifran National Anthem She did mention the recognition of the existence of the independent nation of Biafra by Tanzania. When she mentioned the book Richard was going to write, she wrote, "The topic of the book came to Richard. THE WORLD WAS SILENT WHEN WE DIED! He would write it after the war, a narrative of Biafra's difficult victory, an indictment of the world." But the reader only found out that Ugwu wrote the book eventually. The "loss" of Kainene howbeit was a painful tragedy. To Olanna, "Grief was the celebration of love, those who could feel real grief were lucky to have loved. But it was not grief that Olanna felt, it was greater than grief.
