Today, Kevin and I had a brainstorming meeting with Osbourne concerning our 1,500 KM cycling in December. Our aim is to raise funds for Lifesong Kenya's program for at-risk male teens who are in conflict with the law. Still no sponsors or people willing to offer meals and hosting have come forth. Half Way 2019 Prep Day 24 (of 133): Bouncing Back Have had a huge challenge resuming my rides. First, after losing my riding glasses, I was facing a hard time riding through headwinds, buzzing insects and flying sand. Half Way Cycle 2019 Day 13 (of 133): The Grind After spending the day at KYCTC, the temptation to not go for a ride and take it easy was very strong. In the end, I knew that not going would leave me with loads of regrets. I'm glad that I went through with it. However, it wasn't easy. I struggled and wondered on earth was wrong with me. Half Way Cycle 2019 Prep Day 11 (of 133) During our maiden Half Way Cycle, last year, we struggled in the rain, heat and experienced numerous mechanical failures. Half Way Cycle 2019 Prep: Day 11 (of 133) 11 days ago, I embarked on a journey of getting ready for this year's Half Way Cycle that aims to create awareness and raise funding for @lifesongkenya and our juvenile prison program in 2020. So far, it has been tough and I have wanted to give up. Then I think about Diligence who should be in school preparing for his KCPE instead of being in juvenile prison. I think about the success stories of the boys @lifesongkenya has reconciled with their families and the people the boys have hurt. Then, I take a deep breath and decide to keep pushing because there is a catch. Today's plan to ride 60 KM ended up in frustration and double puncture. Having failed to carry my puncture repair kit, I had to call it a day. I felt deflated but know it is part of . It all begun, when I reflected on yesterday's rain-washed ride. My glasses fell and got smashed by traffic and I had a hard time riding without them today. 7 years ago, I met 100 boys in juvenile prison and thought I was going to empower them. Instead, I am the one who is learning valuable life lessons. Half Way Cycle 2019 Prep: Day 1/133 I have always been facsinated by bicycles since I was a boy. It wasn't until I was a teen when when I got the chance to learn how to ride. Many years have passed since then and I am still facsinated by bicycles. The only difference is that this time round, I am preparing for this year's Half Way Cycle. Why Half Way Cycle 2019? This will be the second time that I will be cycling from Nairobi to Mogori Town from December 12th 2019. I will be aiming to create more awareness about Lifesong Kenya's restorative justice for male teen offenders as well as raise funds for our 2020 prison program budget.
