Actually, this has been a shit two weeks. My father-in-law got a tracheostomy for his throat cancer, my son had to have a conscious sedation because of a splinter in his eyeball, and now my wife had to have surgery. What gives? Here is the story with the surgery. Over the past year, and getting progressively more frequent, my wife had been experiencing severe abdominal pain. A few trips to the ER and we had no answers. Thursday I talked her into going to the doctor who, after an exam, sent her to get an ultrasound. Ultrasound showed her gallbladder was gull of gallstones. The pain became severe so I took her to the ER at Halifax Port Orange. After bloodwork and an exam we were told she would be having surgery, and was transferred to the main Halifax Hospital by ambulance. By noon the next morning her gallbladder was removed. What does your gallbladder do you might ask? According to Web MD the gallbladder is basically used to store bile from the liver and helps breaking down fat. Oddly enough I found out that the gallbladder is totally useless. Evolution needs to get rid of that thing. According to the US Library of Medicine in an article about laparoscopic gallbladder removal the surgery is done because of gallstones or if the gallbladder is no longer functional. Andreas gallstones were actually blocking her bile duct and her liver was inflamed. Her liver enzymes were elevated as well. Luckily the surgery was a success and after 2 days in the hospital we are safe at home.

This day totally sucked. So, maybe two weeks back, at daycare this kid threw a bunch of dirt into my son’s eyes. The people at the daycare did an amazing job at irrigating his eyes and let me know about what happened right away. That was a Thursday. Fast forward to Saturday and my wife noticed something stuck in his eyeball. We took him to Florida Hospital New Smyrna (Bert Fish) where they put some dye in his eye and looked at it under a black light. Sure enough, there is something lodged into his eyeball. Right where the iris and sclera meet. An attempt to remove it with a cotton swab was unsuccessful. We were told to follow up with an Ophthalmologist. Monday morning I got an appointment for a Tuesday morning visit. Tuesday morning came, and after many attempts the Doctor was unable to remove the object. Something about a 4yr old and tweezers to the eye don’t work together. The Doctor said the next step was to Halifax Health to have Aj put under by conscious sedation and he would be willing to come over and do the removal if the ER physician wanted. What a blessing he was. My son is a fighter. It took 4 of us to hold him down for his IV. Then he was given Ketamine and Versed, and then a little more. Finally, after several attempts Dr Geiss was successful. This video above is the meds wearing off. Aj called it his dizzy medicine. Kid is hilarious.
