Halisi: Nuts, well that's a funny nickname, but okay. I know mom and baba have had the Asims over for parties a couple of times, but a lot of the details kinda flew over my head.

Halisi: Well I do help out sometimes with the landscapers and maintenance crews when we're having slow days! 😊 Mostly, I'm training, so I don't really get up on ladders all that much. I climb trees and cliffs as part of my exercise though, it's such a rush and the views from the top are so pretty!

Leona: *sighs* Yup. Good ol' Hali. Still got her head in the clouds.

Carla: We wiped out most of the drills this morning. All we have left is a couple more spars and we can knock those out later.

Halisi: I'm game! We can finally take it easy for a little!

Leona: Considering the secondborn royal's supposed to be the leader of the pride of tournament winners, I had Bead Brawl lessons forced upon me pretty much as soon as I hit the double digits. By this meddling grand chamberlain here.

Leona: What do I look like, your chauffeur? 😒

Vil: I must say, you're quite the steady hand at the wheel. Guess you're good for something after all.

Mahina: *flying overhead, lost in thought before she's yanked upwards* Gah!

Shriek: Mahi, look! 😃 *pointing at the flock of flamingoes flying nearby*

Mahina: Oh, damn, that's a lot of pink.

Charles: Wow! 😲 They're so different from the ones in Heartslabyul!

Halisi: You guys have flamingoes at your school? 😃

Charles: Really only in Heartslabyul.

Mahina: They look the same to me.

Charles: No, something about their feathers seems different.

Halisi: Maybe because the ones in the Queendom of Roses have rose pink feathers while the ones here all have flamingo pink since there's greater numbers of carotenoid pigments found in the algae and brine shrimp that make up their diet. Oh, and the legs of Queendom flamingoes are stockier with stronger ankle bones because of how often they're used in croquet matches.

Everyone except the girls: *blinking in disbelief*

Charles: Gee, you sure do know a lot about flamingoes. 😯

Carla: Hali loooves ornithology. 🤭

Jahi: Yeah, she's a real bird brain.

Halisi: Yeah! 😃 They're a little on the big side so they can't fly for long periods of time but they make up for it through conserving energy by gliding effortlessly on rising thermals reaching altitudes up to 15,000 feet. That fleshy crest you always see male condors with is called a caruncle, which-

Shriek: *laughing as she flies amongst the flamingoes, many of which panic at the sight of her* Hiiii! 😁 *flying in synch with them for a while before folding in her wings and diving in and out of the savannah grass below along with the prancing springbok, making Cheka laugh as she pulls silly faces each time she pops out*

Kalim: *beaming at the storks wading through the stream they drive by* There's so many animals here, I can hardly believe it! Whoa!! 😲

[[Both jeeps screech to a stop as they wait for a herd of elephants to lumber by, Shriek sliding joyfully down their trunks and snapping at the guinea fowl running amongst their feet]]

Lilia: *chuckling* The sheer variety of wildlife never ceases to amaze.

Vil: With the veritable menagerie you have at home, Kalim, I'd have thought you'd be less impressed.

Grim: Yeah, don't you have like a hundred elephants? 🤨

Kalim: Actually only five dozen. But an animal in a zoo is completely different from an animal you see in the wild.

Vil: *glimpsing a cheetah following after some wart hogs* I suppose it is quite rare to get to see them on the prowl like this.

Leona: That's the ol' "circle of life, for ya.

Kalim: What's that? 🤨

Leona: It's an old saying here in Sunset Savanna. The creatures of the savanna live their lives in constant danger. The strong eat the weak, and when the strong die, they become-

Cheka: Grass! 😀 And the antelope and the water buffalos and the other hoofie animals eat the grass! Which makes us all connected!

Leona: Well how 'bout that. Looks like a couple of smarts made their way into your head through those fluffy little ears after all.

Cheka: Baba taught me! 😊

Leona: He also teach you lions don't violently die with someone's bicuspids lodged into their jugulars like the herbivores usually do?

Jahi: Did you really have to go there? 😠

Leona: *gesturing over to where Shriek is wrestling a water buffalo* Might as well, she is.

Shriek: *returning the challenging bellow of the water buffalo and leaping out of the way of its charges until she grabs it by the horns and pins it to the ground*

Hali: Whoa!! 😲

Carla: Did she seriously just body a water buffalo?? 😲

Mahina: Shriek, you can't just-

Carla: *smiling* She's something else.

Jahi: Not bad, kid.

Shriek: *grinning as she strikes a triumphant pose and screeches in triumph*

Mahina: *in disbelief as the girls applaud Shriek*

Leona: Told ya my team ain't a bunch of pushovers. 😏

Cheka: I wanna play with the water buffalo like Shriek!

Kalim: *trying to block Cheka's line of sight* Uhh, I don't think she's playing. 😥

Shriek: *lets the water buffalo up after it grows too exhausted to struggle and gently bonks its head with hers* You're pretty tough. Remember that charge next time and the leopards won't get ya, kay?

Water Buffalo: *snorting and licking Shriek across the cheek before shuffling off into the savannah*

Leona: Huh. Guess she really was just playin'.

Shriek: *smiling as she watches the water buffalo leave before noticing a bird nearby and lunges upon it with a feral cry of hunger*

Lilia: My goodness, but that's a lot of steam!

Leona: Yeah this whole area's full of hot vapors. What with the volcano nearby and all.

Charles: It feels so nice and warm on my skin. 😊

Grim: *waving his paws in front of his face* Good for you, cuz I can't see an inch in front of my little black nose!

Mahina: On it. Shriek, gimme a hand?

Shriek: Uh-huh! *flapping her wings along with Mahina as the steam clouds around the group dissipate, her eyes widening at the sight* WHOOOOAAA!! 🤩 It's a whole boneyard!! Get a load of that elephant skull!

Carla: That big boy right there's why this place was known as the Elephant Graveyard for so long.  Most of the bones here are elephant fossils and their tusks that sunk into the mineral springs here.

Jahi: Once it got rebranded to a tourist spot, they thought Ivory Springs sounded more in line with the vibe they were going for so it changed. Most of us locals still call it the Graveyard.

Shriek: I like that way better! 😁

Grim: AHHH!! 🙀

Cheka: What's wrong, Grim?

Grim: Someone put a buncha grub in this hot spring! What a waste!

Leona: Calm down. That ain't a hot spring, it's a birdie boiler. They use the steam here to make chicken and onsen tamago in iron pots.

Carla: Elephant ears, too.

Kalim: Elephant... ears? 😥

Lilia: Don't worry, it's just crispy fried dough, dusted with sugar and cinnamon. One of my favorites! 😋

Cheka: Mine too! They're soooo yummy! 😋

Carla: Yeah, hyenas have made their homes here since the King of Beast's time. They worked hard to build this place into a resort town.

Carla: Nah, my hometown's closer to the coast. But the girls and I come down all the time on weekends to unwind. Those hot springs change your LIFE.

Charles: Ahhhh, I've been waiting for this! 🤩

Vil: As have I. Leona, I'd love to see the exclusive section only the royal family is permitted to enter. Will that be happening anytime soon?

Leona: Oh right, that. Your wish is my command, oh esteemed guests.

Grim: So what's in this exclusive section anyway?

Leona: The hot springs you can actually bathe in. Ivory Springs is a recreation center. There's a lot of attractions making use of the geothermal energy, but aside from a couple wading pools you can't actually go in the water. But in the royal family's retreat, you can.

Carla: *to Cheka and Shriek who are playing with some bones on the ground* And those wading pools are the perfect size for kids, soooo if you two happen to know a couple of cubs who want to go play there... 😊

Cheka: Yeah, let's go, Shriek! I'll show ya my favorite spot! 😄

Y'know, I always wanted to try them out but I could never get my hair to cooperate. I did try braiding my tail tuft, though, and it took forever to get it sectioned but it's super cute! We should try it sometime! Wow, you got taller!

Leona: *wheezing as he tries to free himself and catch his breath* You... haven't changed a bit, Hali.. 😖

Grim: LEONA got taller?! This chick's already almost as big as Mahi!

Mahina: S-she's not-! oh my gods, is she!?

Leona: That's Sunset Savannah standard. The royal family are lion beastfolk, and in the wild it's the lionesses who do all the hunting. So most of the palace guards here are women warriors who can snap steel cables like twigs.

Carla: There's men too of course, but most of the important positions are filled by women.

Halisi: Just like yours, sis! 😁

Carla: *blushing and scratching her deathhawk* C'mon, captain of the guard's small potatoes compared to being leader of the Sunset Warriors.

*Carla looks around the group and sees Mahina staring intensely at the 4 of them from afar. She motions for the other 2 guards to take a look as well and soon enough Mahina and the Lion Guard members are caught in a stare off…until Carla flinches and looks back towards Charlie*

Carla: So what’s up with her?

Charlie: *Looking over his shoulder* I’m…not entirely sure but I wouldn’t approach her right now, that’s kind of her “Stay away from me” look.

Carla: Hmm, Ok…

Charlie: Hey, do you girls wanna see something cool?

Halisi: Oh!! Me!! Me!!

*Charlie pulls a little metallic orb from his pocket and begins twisting and turning components on it. When he’s done, the orb has transformed into a bird*

Charlie: And…go!!

*He tosses the bird and it takes flight, fluttering around the girls and amazing Halisi the most*

Halisi: Woah!!! What species is that!?

Jahi: It’s an automaton, Hal.

Halisi: What kind of bird is that?
