Halley is the blunt and stoic secretary of famous carnival critic, Jarvis Diadem (also a Newt design), a job she seems outwardly indifferent towards. Here's a doodle I never posted lol
Like many adults with obvious mutations, Halley is only alive today because of the greed and fascination of others, and she spent most of her life bouncing around cheap circuses. Much of that movement was owed to the fact that she's not particularly flashy or expressive, but her stony disposition was ultimately what caught Jarvis' eye.
The carnival showcasing her was, according to his review, terrible, and that negative press was enough to put it under. He found her the most amusing part, though, and he nabbed her when it went belly-up. Jarvis gave her two options: work for him as a (paid) live-in secretary, or run off, no strings attached, and find something else to do.
Jarvis isn't a good person, mind you. But the way she acts is only funny if she's being treated like a person, see? And he finds her hilarious.
Halley's not a big nickname person, but Jarvis insists on calling her that and she doesn't care enough to complain. She also doesn't seem to care when he calls her a freak of nature. Maybe it packs less punch when he has the same mutation?
