"i didn't get that far, mel." she's nothing if not honest. "my plan was to look for drew elson, have a sit down with her - maybe we could get boba or something - and to see if we could help each other out." and by that, flori means, drew helping landon out. after all, landon is the only other phoenix she knows.

"as for me looking into miss donovan, that's more so because i've got reason to believe she's related to matt donovan. not just because of the same last name. i mean, look at this - put a picture of her and a picture of him together and they could literally be mother and son or aunt and nephew or something."

                it  sounds  like  paranoia .  like  something  to  be  concerned  over ,  a  cause  to  take  protests  in  stride  and  force  her  to  sit  /  think .  there  are  creatures  out  there  certainly  capable  of  spying  on  you ,  always  present  where  you  cannot  see ,  but  you  try  not  to  live  under  that  kind  of  paranoia .  it  isn't  much  of  a  life .  you  also  try  NOT  to  bet  against  mel .

                dilemmas .

                the  vagueness  is  what  gives  you  pause ,  really .  they  could  mean  ANYTHING  /  anyone .  you  don't  feel  anything  strange  but  your  built  in  sense  of  the  supernatural  is  not  always  as  reliable  as  you  would  like .  probably  because  it  requires  practice  and  you've  never  tried .  other  much  more  pressing  powers  and  priorities .  plus ,  mel  as  an  entity  kind  of  OVERSHADOWS  anything  else  that  could  be  around .  something  could  easily  use  the  fog  of  her  being  to  go  unnoticed .  troubling  thought  for  another  time .  and  still ,  it  could  be  nothing .

                you  don't  try  to  make  her  sit  down .  you  crouch  instead .  your  neck  aches  from  looking  down  so  maybe  looking  up  will  help .  " who  is  they ,  mel ? "  you  try ,  actively ,  to  see  past  her  presence  for  anything  hiding .  an  effort  in  failure .  " what  am  i  missing ? "

what? she's ever so curious. there's a reason she's been equated to the rusty spotted cat before. it's not just because they're tiny and cute and the fact that kie herself is as well - no, it's because the rusty spotted cat houses infinite curiosity in it's tiny body.

"would you believe me if i said drinking water?"

as she unscrews the top of her water bottle, kie adds: "i know i mostly lean on my cryokinesis but i do have hydrokinesis too." she's essentially the katara of her friend group. "here, i'll show you. watch."

with a wiggle of her fingers, kie molds the water inside her water bottle - coaxing it out and turning it into small water orbs that she snaps at, like she's pacman. or that thing that's chasing pacman. (she's not well-versed in games, that's her friend ethan's thing.)

"i don't paint nearly as often as i sketch or sculpt but the other day, i wanted to make something to cheer jawaharel up. you know, he's walking with a cane nowadays, right? and earlier, he'd been talking about how he's still... um, he's still in the process of making peace with the fact that he can't do as much as he could when he was younger and more limber. so i thought, okay, new medium, let's go. and then i accidentally knocked into my glass of mango juice and spilled it over the canvas. then i freaked out and then i realized i could use that to my advantage. so that's also something my abilities have made easier." a nod and then: "he liked the painting, by the way. it's in his study."
