It wasn't that Lilia hadn't experienced those feelings; she'd been in love, she'd had her heart broken, she'd fell for the wrong people. She just didn't keep doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome; aside from being pointless it was basically the definition of madness.

Looking at Prue, Lilia felt herself instinctively reading her; not with her Sight but with the eyes of experience. It didn't take a psychic to see the thoughts that were going through the young woman's mind. She was suffering her own complications of the heart, suffering for love as everyone did at some point in their lives, some more often than others.

"If it's meant to resolve itself, it will," Lilia offered in unsolicited advice. "But only if you want it to."

Lilia couldn't help but let out small laugh at the thought of witnessing the 'world's history'. History sounded very easy to view when you were reading it in books, easy to recognise, but when it was happening, the bits you did manage to be a part of just felt like another day, another event following another.

"A lot of the world's history involved Kings and conquerors, neither of which I was hanging around," Lilia told her. "But I moved for survival. I'd still be in Sicily if there hadn't been the plague, and there were the witch hunts all over Europe, and then I was chased out of every village I passed through from Italy to Spain. Eventually I moved to England, and then there was the spiritualist movement which made psychics popular. Add that to a lot of Italian immigrants making their way to America a couple of centuries ago, and I found my perfect cover. I haven't been chased out of a village since," she concluded with a wry look, more humour in her expression than she felt about the experience. It had been marked by isolation, loss and death, never really having a home or lasting community, and now she lived in the back of a shop, patching her own clothes, when she'd once roamed through the grounds of Sicilian villas.

It was definitely a change.

"Divination," Lilia said in frank explanation of her knowledge of the nexus, gesturing with one ringed hand to the house and its gardens. "It's hard not to See it."

Entering the house, Lilia immediately began to look around, taking in the familiar woodwork and stained glass windows. There were removals and additions, of course, but for the most part so much of it was unchanged from when she had last stepped in the house herself.

Curiosity getting the better of her, Lilia stepped into the parlour, tuning out Prue's cries for her sister, and began to taking a closer look at things. Picking up a photo frame and looking at the photo inside it, peeking inside a trinket box on a side table, studying the ornaments on the mantelpiece, turning over the objects in her hands before returning them to their place.

"Is Paige supposed to be here?" she called out.

Lilia's eyes were fixed on her and Prue could feel it without even looking at the woman. Unaware of what, and to what extent, she got to know, Prue decided that the safest option was generally vague, but honest answer. “ There's nothing more to be done. ” She replied. “ It wasn't meant to be, doesn't matter what I wanted. ”

It didn't make this loss any lighter, she knew the reason, while Andy was left in the dark. He tried over and over, came by, called, even tried to catch Prue at work. All to no avail. It wasn't fair to him, but in Prue's eyes, it was safer.

Watching Lilia speak, she silently wondered how much strength it had to take to become this composed. Going through so much pain and obstacles and talking about this calmly, it had to be strength and experience. “ You've seen the world change. ” She said with admiration. “ We had to adapt, but have witches changed a lot since then? ” She asked, remembering the time they summoned Melinda Warren needing help with vanquishing a demon from centuries ago.

“ I presume that lately you can't complain on lack of customers, especially on the younger side. ” She noticed raising her brows slightly rather in self assurance than inquiring. “ It seems that anything wicca related is highly trending right now. ” Although no real witch would dress themselves in oversized t-shirt with 'I'm a witchy witch' text on it or carry a crystal in their pocket for anesthetic. Prue had to admit, from the marketing point of view, this trend provided tons of income.

Prue checked the kitchen, except the usual chaos no one was there. Deciding that she'll yell at Paige later, she set the kettle for some tea and returned to the living room.

Catching Lilia sniffing around wasn't what she expected, it only made Prue smile. “ How did the inspection turn out? ” She smirked. “ We try keeping the renovations to minimum, but the amount of repairs this house needs is absurd. ” Not to mention the cost of these repairs in an old Victorian manor.

“ Let's take a look through The Book, see if anything looks familiar. There has to be a starting point somewhere. ” And just like that there were footsteps coming down the stairs and another Prue emerged from upstairs, carrying most sacred inheritance to the Warren line, their book of magic.

Lilia's mouth dropped open in offended shock. "How dare you?"

While her efforts to maintain some connection to nature as she'd always been instructed had become a little hit and miss over the centuries as she'd been forced to switch from gardens and soil to household plant pots, she didn't think the learning gap was that wide. She might not really get house plants and pots, but the ones in her kitchen seemed to do pretty well, and she'd only scorched a few at the front of her shop in recent years. It was better than killing all of them, and it was better than watering some damn plastic.

"You think I haven't been read before?" Lilia asked, letting out a small laugh. "My mother and grandmother were divination witches, and my teacher had the Sight," she pointed out emphatically. Her Sight had worked differently to Lilia's but it had been strong, spying glimpses with what seemed like no effort at all. "The difference is I had less to hide," she added, still not impressed with this apparent wager.

Seeing Vivienne making her attempt at escape, Lilia pressed her lips together in a momentary conflict of decision before slamming her hand down in the air, and a flash of gold energy filled the doorway, physically blocking the exit before Vivienne could walk through.

"There's three, not four," Lilia corrected, flashing Vivienne a smile. "And since you've forgotten to empty it, I think you should be the one to retrieve it."

“ What? No one can be good at everything, it's normal. ” Vivi explained, seeing that she'd probably ruffled some feathers there. “ You don't do best with plants and that's okay, no need to get defensive. Shit, there's a whole list of things I suck at that you could pull right out of your sleeve, isn't it? ” She challenged, holding Lilia's gaze for a moment longer just to let it sound out loud.

“ I've got nothing to hide, ” that's a lie, “ but it doesn't mean I like it when you See me as if I were transparent. ” Maybe because Vivi didn't like it herself what was going on in her mind, having someone else see all that chaos, didn't matter it was a close friend, made her feel vulnerable, weak. 

Was Lilia judging what she's seeing? Was it just one thing at the time or was she presented like an open book? Was it just memories, facts, or emotions as well? Could she somehow prevent being Read?

This train of questions got interrupted when gold energy glowed right before her eyes, before she could reach for the door handle. Vivi froze, not in fear but in awe, watching the energy dance on the doorframe before ultimately fading.

Finally turning around, her mouth still slightly parted before turning into a smile. “ That was awesome. ” She stated eagerly. “ And you're right, there are three. ” A smirk. “ I'll gladly empty it, if you just tell me where it is. ”

“ Good morning. ” A familiar voice came from the store, the woman already directing her steps to the back to Lilia's home. “ Hello bedda. ” Iris greeted, warm smile showing on her face the moment she saw Lilia, then she saw the girl too. “ Hey Vivi. ” She was holding a bundle of sage stems she brought from her garden for Lilia. “ Am I interrupting something? ”

"Fate," Scully and Mulder surmised, speaking in absolute sync. They instinctively looked at each other, a mix of surprise and amusement in their expressions.

"Jinx," Mulder joked affectionately before returning his attention to Lilia and Vivi. "But that's what you mean, isn't it? A series of events, something that seems like a collection of coincidences, working together to ensure that one singular event happens. Like Scully being assigned to the X Files all those years ago to her arresting you to this meeting right now," he concluded.

Lilia looked at him, studying him as he spoke and even after he'd stopped, her brown eyes flickering between him and his partner as she pursed her lips in visible consideration.

"Hm," she concluded, giving nothing away of the opinions she'd formed on both them and the situation.

"Mulder is not mostly right," Scully corrected Vivi. "He just chooses the most outlandish theory and then adjusts it repeatedly until it matches the actual evidence."

"Still gets me closer than you," he argued good-naturedly.

"And Henry Weems?" she challenged. "You thought he had a superhuman ability to heal. I suggested luck, which was exactly what it was."

"A superhuman luck though," he insisted.

"Oh my god," Lilia sighed in exasperation, rolling her eyes skyward as she shook her head, and was grateful for when Vivi brought the conversation back on to its actual topic.

"He's moving too much. Hitchhiking, hiding, he's aware people want to find him, which means he's trying to hide from everyone, including all of you; he just doesn't realise that part yet." And he was a teenager, which added a whole other bunch of complications that even Lilia's Sight couldn't get into.

"The reading isn't technically complete, no," she answered, gesturing to empty spaces on the spread. "But that doesn't mean it's not over." Frankly, drawing any more cards for these three was going to be a waste of time and a draw of energy; they were all going to do whatever the hell they wanted to regardless. Lilia could see that even without her Sight. "But the three of cups is unity and celebration, a group coming together in friendship. Wherever it is you decide to go, you need to stick together. Either you need to go to D.C," she pointed to Vivienne, then looked at Mulder and Scully "or you two need to stay in San Francisco."

Relieved that both of them decided to shift their attention to bickering rather than dwelling on the topic of time travel, Vivi just watched their exchange, a small smile tugging at her lips. “ Yeah, he seems to be right on point, whether by knowledge or sheer dumb luck. ” She specified, giving a little smirk at Mulder as she took his side.

But that comment did nothing to distract either of them. When they casually continued to bounce their arguments around, Vivi leaned closer to Lilia to whisper with obvious amusement. “ Believe it or not, they're actually flirting now. ” She announced. “ They do it all the time, literally all the time. ” Accenting the word, she shook her head. Maybe Lilia was right before, they don't need to name it, but denying it was simply delusional.

Unity and celebration? How it could be even a little relevant to their situation now? Vivi raised an eyebrow at Lilia. She knew Lilia knew what she was going on in her head. Mulder and Scully had plane tickets back to Washington for 10am the next day, all it would take was to leave unnoticed and wouldn't be found until the plane takes off the next day. And Vivi had the advantage of her hometown.

Quickly casting a look at Scully, Vivi tired to assess how much of Lilia's words the woman was willing to believe. Luckily it seemed the score wasn't very high. There might be hope for her after all.

“ I'm gonna wait in the car. ” She told them, already directing her steps to the door. If the reading was over, then it was the wisest move to get the agents out of there, before Lilia says anything more that might give the agents any ideas or work in contrary to what Vivi had planned or reveal anymore stuff that she'd like to remain private.

Passing by Lilia, the girl stopped for a short moment, looking up at her friend. Words were at the tip of her tongue, yet in the last moment she decided against it. “ See you next time. ” She said quietly, then left the store, bells above the door chiming it's usual melody.

Their rental car was parked just on the opposite side of the street. Despite the keys still being in Mulder's pocket, the car blinked orange lights as Vivi unlocked it. Finally in the back, she sunk down in the seat and let out a long sigh – the air she was unconsciously holding now lifted from her chest. But Vivi knew it was just the beginning of her problems, the agents will surely have more questions to ask, questions she didn't want to answer.

“ Can we stop by the store? ” She asked when Scully and Mulder joined her in the car. There was one a few streets away, one she remembered from her time.

He's been up all night trying to find a way out of thie god damn mess. His hair is mussed from both lack of sleep and the amount of times he'd scored a hand through it in frustration at the lack of answers. His jaw works, a mixture of irritation and desperation as he turns away from the Book of Shadows and makes his way down the staircase towards the kitchen in search of water. He almost runs into Vivienne, blinking several times to clear the sleep from his eyes. His brows furrow at the sight of his younger cousin. “Vivi?” he asks. “It’s…” his gaze flicks to the clock on the kitchen wall. " 3am. " he winces internally, had he been up that long? “Everything okay?” Concern slips through despite himself.

For a moment, Vivi stood in front of the manor, making sure all the lights were off and everyone was asleep already. Just to be double sure, she decided the back door through the kitchen were probably safer than the front. The door creaked a little, but that was as much noise as she was planning to make; the sneakers in her hand, she made her way through the manor in socks.

Until she bumped into Chris, holding back at the last second to not squeal in shock. “ What are you doing here?? ” She asked, hand still over her mouth. He looked.. sleepy. Unfocused. “ It's technically 2:46. ” That didn't make it any less late.

“ I'm fine, was just going up to my room. ” She took in the look on his face, his messy hair. “ You look like you're pulling an all nighter, need help? ”

"I thought it was an aspidistra," she defended. "They survived in cigar rooms." Surely a plant that could survive a dark and dingy room filled with cigar smoke and pontificating men could survive a dark corner of her home. That was if it was real, and not some plastic imitation placed there in some sort of test.

"So let me get this straight," Lilia began, one hand on her hip. "You gave yourself extra work, sneaking around emptying pots of water behind my back, all for a bet at my expense?" There was a challenge to her expression as much as her tone.

At the revelation that there was more than one culprit in her home, Lilia pursed her lips in barely reserved irritation, privately wondering just how much Vivienne and Iris had talked about this, and what the exact content had been.

"That would mean reading you which you repeatedly claim you don't like," Lilia reminded her, though the barest prod of her Sight directed her attention to the one above her kitchen cupboard. Marching over with a sigh of frustration, Lilia grabbed the step stool and used it to reach the offending fake. At least she hadn't been watering this one; it was too much effort to keep getting out the foot stool to reach it.

“ It was plastic. They survive everything, even your care. ” Vivi teased playfully in reply. It was nothing more than a harmless prank that could get her a few extra bucks. And a bunch of laughs as a bonus. “ Technically, at Iris' expense, she owes me money, not you. ” She clarified, but more or less Lilia was right. Vivi considered it more probable that Lilia might catch her at night, emptying pots than realize she's been watering plastic plants.

What Vivi also found hilarious was that Lilia still held onto the image that she's been keeping up for the customers - serious witch who could kill with a glare and her jokes are over hand on hip stance - most people would get chills now, but it didn't work on this girl, never really did.

Green eyes followed Lilia's movements and she had to admit she was impressed, but not surprised, by how quickly the challenge got accepted. “ If you could be Read, you wouldn't like that feeling either. ” She shrugged. “ It's like standing in front of someone with an impression you don't have any clothes on. ” Even describing that made her wince a little.

Deciding it was about time to evacuate before she could be Read fully not only where she hid the impostors, Vivi reached out her hand and the jacket that's been hanging on the hook by the door to Lilia's store flew to her hand. “ I gotta go, but best of luck to you. There were four in general. Ciao! ”

"You were making bets on it?" Lilia asked with disbelieving indignation, dropping the miniature watering can down on the table with a clunk before taking the offending imposter and carrying it over to the trash.

"So you're telling me that after all this time I spent thinking I was finally getting something to grow in that dark corner, it was all a big joke." Dropping the fake plant unceremoniously in the trash can, Lilia sighed heavily and threw Vivienne a look that, by most people's standards, could kill.

"I read people and I read time, I don't read fake plants. Why would I even think to check whether it was real? Why would I have a fake plant in the apartment?" She argued in protest.

“ Lilia look at that corner! Nothing will grow there, because it's freaking dark. You'd have to drill a hole in the wall to let some light in to have any chance of a live plant surviving there. ” Vivi sighed, it's not the first time she's said it, but if Lilia was still going to try, why not have a little prank?

“ It was worth it to see you going over there with that little can to water it every day, I had to empty that pot later. ” Which was a hilarious little routine, waiting until Lilia goes to bed and going on her tiptoes to pour out all what she's watered with so much dedication.

“ That's it? ” She said, challenging spark in her eye. “ You threw away one fake plant and think that's all there is? ” Still chuckling, Vivi got up from the chair which produced a dull sound being pushed over old wooden floor. The girl walked over to the sink to leave her empty cup there. When she turned around to see Lilia glaring daggers at her, she just couldn't not crack a smile. “ Use your Sight. ”

“ But Iris really believed in you… at first. After first five days I won 10 bucks, then $1 for every day you didn't notice. ” Quick math in her head got the number. “ She owes me 23 dollars as of now. ” Vivi flashed a grin. “ Though I think she lost something more than money — last bits of faith in you. ”

Vivi tilted her head, deciding she wasn't done grilling yet. “ You know, as for a divination witch, you See surprisingly little of what's coming at you. ”

"Perhaps I do not speak it very much because none of you in your country would understand it," Lilia reasoned, acknowledging that Vivienne's language was English, but with a strange accent she had never heard before. She mad met many English people in her travels, and none had the sound of Vivienne's words, the diction to her pronunciation. It was strange, but then much of the world could change in centuries.

"No, I have no choice. The gaps...they have happened ever since I was a child. I would get these flashes, of other moments, and be left with large gaps in my current memory as if someone else had been walking in my place. My maestra called it 'visiting'. She would tell me 'you were visiting again', and that was it," Lilia concluded with a shrug. "I don't know why it happens, I don't know why it is me, and I don't know if there are triggers, or if those gaps will ever fill in, if anything will ever fall into place." It was exhausting, living a life out of sequence, but she tried her hardest to find some pattern in it, to live her life to the best she could, even through grief, even without her coven.

Liking the sound of this description of her future self, Lilia smiled a little, but it was tempered slightly by a frown as she tried to understand the rest of the meaning. There were times when she was alone. Did Vivienne mean such as now? Periods of travel, periods where she had no choice but to be alone.

"We lost members of our coven?" Lilia's heart lurched at the thought that once again she would have to grieve that kind of loss, that a coven she had managed to form would be taken all over again. She had more questions, more concerns, but the sound of a commotion outside interrupted her thoughts.

"Chi sta succidennu?" She muttered aloud, more to herself than to Vivienne, as she rose from her seat and opened her door, looking out into the muddied streets of the village.

Cries of accusations in French came through the crowd, that and crude insults that could only mean one thing.

"They think they have found a witch," Lilia explained, brown eyes filled with worry and sadness as she looked back at Vivienne.

“ That's true, no one would understand you there, but if I were you and knew such a beautiful language, I wouldn't stop speaking it. Let the ignorant remain ignorant. ” She shrugged, adding a little indifference to the comment. Can't do much about people's stupidity. In her time, English was a universal language around the world, no need to know any other which left some experiences feel tasteless, unoriginal.

“ It could've been our secret language, we could talk in public and no one would know. ” It would only be a matter of time for Vivi to soak through with this language, and for Lilia a nice way to connect with her roots. “ Could you teach me some? ”

Even when this little time had passed, Vivi clearly enjoyed this company. She leaned forward, listening, all of her attention was on Lilia and she couldn't believe the other hasn't explained this before, not this openly and simple. “ It had to be so scary the first time that it happened, you were just a little kid.” She noticed.. when another question popped into her head.

“ Do you think that when you're visiting the you from that time comes here in your place for that brief moment? ” Tilting her head, she wondered aloud. “ Maybe something triggers it.. but Lilia you'll, you'll.. understand it.. ” Small smile broke the girl's expression, the least she could offer the woman was some little reassure that one day it will make sense. “ I don't know how to explain it, but you in my time, you said you understand it all. ”

Just when Vivi was about to reply, to somehow wrap her head around everything that had happened on the road recently and share it with Lilia in a way that wouldn't traumatize her more, hundreds of years before it actually happened – she was interrupted. Getting up quickly, she followed Lilia to the door.

“ What's going on? ” Whispering quietly, Vivi stood behind Lilia, only stretching out her neck to see more. It didn't matter that she didn't understand a single word, the screams, she cries, it didn't need translation.

More people opened their doors and windows to see, dozens of curious eyes watching the scene and no one, not a single soul moved to do anything, to protest.

It did sting, the indifference, the audience attitude. Vivi saw another witch as a sister in craft, someone who should be protected from evil.. she was a protector. 

That also meant that while saving one, no one else could be endangered. Her head snapped back to the open window at the other end of the room, better safe than sorry, no one better saw her coming out of Lilia's place. Vivi rushed to the window, picking up some pots placed on the stone windowsill and moved them to the table. “ I have to do something, Lilia, can't just sit and watch. ”
