Mulder had driven well over several speed limits, turning corners on dangerous , screeching edges in order to follow Vivienne to wherever it was she had run to, with Scully pointing and shouting directions to him as she looked at the map.

"Hold on, Scully," Mulder warned her as they came to the field and, instead of stopping, he drove right through it, coming to a chaotic stop just short of where they saw Vivienne reaching a muddy form on the ground which, on first glimpse, looked like a dead body.

"Oh no," Scully whispered, but at the sound of Vivienne yelling for her, she grabbed her medical bag from the back seat and ran as fast as she could. "I'm here, I'm here," she promised as she got to her knees, immediately looking at Lilia and the state she was in. "Vivi, do you know what happened?"

Working fast, she turned the woman on her side and began checking her vitals, listening close for heartbeat and breathing. "There's a pulse, and she seems to be breathing steadily, but it's shallow." Not waiting to check if the woman was conscious enough to ask for consent, Scully worked fast at unbuttoning the mud-stained shirt and pushing it aside. It was then that she saw the wounds.

"She's been stabbed. Twice." They seemed to have come straight through the back and just barely piercing her stomach, though, thankfully, both seemed to have missed her vitals. "Luckily, all this mud helped staunch the bleeding." Scully frowned as she got out the things she needed from her bag, seeing the disturbed patch of grass beside them. "Did she climb out of a hole in the ground?"

"Or from somewhere else," Mulder added knowingly, thinking on what Vivienne had said while she was scrying.

Scully began cleaning the wound, which prompted Lilia to be shocked back into consciousness, coughing and spluttering with pain and dirt and blood, the bliss of temporary oblivion fading so fast the only thing stopping her from yelling out in pain was a lack of energy.

"What are you all doing?" she asked in instinctive protest, though her voice was much weaker than usual. Coughing again, Lilia attempted to turn over in order to sit up but Scully pushed her back down as she worked.

"Saving your life. Do you remember where you were, where this happened?" Her tone was the epitome of the professional medical doctor.

"The Road," Lilia managed, feeling exhausted, another cough of pain threatening in her throat as she lay on the ground.

"You were on a road?" Mulder asked.

"No. The Road." Coughing up mud stopped Lilia from explaining further.

Vivi felt instant wave of relief when Scully got to them, it was a habit, learned through so many past situations, than when Scully was there, everything was gonna be alright. “ No, not yet, ” she shook her head “ but I'll find out soon. ” As soon as they'll know that Lilia will live, which right now wasn't a certain.

When Scully began to turn Lilia to the side, the girl moved closer to help. Lilia could yell at them later.. “ Stabbed?!? ” How could she be stabbed? By who? Why? Freezing without motion, Vivi couldn't figure out what she was feeling, fear, worry or anger at whoever got Lilia to this state, everything all at once.

'Get a grip' She thought to herself, trying to push any darker thoughts away, Lilia will live. She's in the best hands.

“ We should get her to the hospital. ” Whatever they did now wouldn't save a hospital trip and the sooner they get there, the better. “ She won't die, right? ” Vivi asked, starting to see all the blood mixed with mud around them. Maybe Lilia had lived half a millennia, but this certainly wasn't a way to go.

“ She got out from that hole, but I don't know where it leads. ” Probably a place where people are being stabbed, sounds like an instant no from both Scully and Mulder if she wanted to check it out.

And then Lilia regained consciousness, gasping in pain, but alive! Vivi couldn't stop the relieved smile that showed on her face. “ Don't move, let mom help. She knows what she's doing. ” She tried to calm, keeping Lilia down, hand on her shoulder to prevent her from getting up. She's been there, done that, and it only left her in the worse condition than before.

“ You and I are going to have a serious talk when this is over. ” She wanted to sound firm, tried to, but couldn't. Instead Vivi held Lilia's hand and let her lay her head on her lap. “ Now just let us help, we'll take care of you. ” She assured, looking up at Scully for reassurance.

“ Wait what? The Road is a myth, a legend, only Agatha Harkness had claimed to walk The Road and only she knows how to open it. ” A pause. “ Is Agatha here? ” Vivi raised her voice, looking around the field, but they were alone. Or so it seemed.

Could it be that this hole in the ground could lead there? That was a hypothesis for another time.

“ What the hell happened that got you stab wounds, Lilia? ” She asked with a frown, wondering just how will they have her fixed, if a 500 years old body was any different to the body normal people Lilia's age had.

Lilia didn't know how she had left the trial. When her hand had finally slipped from the table and she had felt herself falling, she had known it was the image she had Seen in her visions, and she knew that no matter what was to come, that Death was a cycle, a beginning, that her life out of sequence, which she'd thought was a curse, was the blessing that meant somewhere in time she'd always be learning and growing, just like everyone else.

And then she'd been back with her maestra, telling her everything about The Road, what she had learned, and about Teen and Agatha, about her life, and when she snapped back...she'd been on The Road. The actual Road, not the trial. That humiliating Glinda gown was gone, she was caked in mud and...

Movement made her realise she was hurt. Touching her hand to her back she felt blood. Whatever had removed her from the trial clearly hadn't moved her soon enough. Or had The Trial simply disappeared when it was no longer needed?

Realising she was alone, and seeing the barest glimpse of light above, Lilia knew what she had to do. And she hated it.

The climb, the digging, made her wounds worse and by the time she burst through into daylight, caked in dirt, all of her energy was gone. She didn't know where she was, how far from her home, how long she'd been gone, but she knew she wanted to close her eyes.

Coughing , she pulled herself out of the ground completely and fell flat on her stomach, letting oblivion come.

When the last time Vivi astral projected to Lilia, she found an empty place. It didn't take long until she spiraled so much, to the point her parents had no choice but to get on a plane with her and fly over to find the mysteriously missing witch.

Now she was standing by the tarot table, a paper map spread out and a crystal in hand. All she could think about was Lilia, the anxiousness rising with each second the crystal was circling above the map with no clear direction.

“ What does that mean? ” Mulder was standing right beside her, his forehead wrinkled in thought and curiosity of watching the process.

“ That she's probably further away or… in another dimension. ” Vivi finished her thought, trying to hold herself from spiraling further and imagining the darkest scenario. She wouldn't even speak it out loud, wouldn't dare to think that Lilia might be gone.

She'd go to hell and back just to find her sassy sicilian witch.

Suddenly a breakthrough, the crystal tugged at her hand and fell in the corner of the map, in the middle of nowhere, a field. With a peak of hope Vivi locked on the point, memorizing the details… and sprinted out like a little gepard.

“ Vivi! ” Mulder called out, but all that heard his words were opened door and chiming bells. “ We could've just taken the car. ” He sighed, marking the spot on the map and picked it up, giving it to Scully where it's the safest. “ Let's go. ”

The girl didn't care about passing through people's premises, over fences or across roads. When she got to the field, Vivi chaotically searched it until her eyes caught a mud covered figure in the distance.

“ Lilia! ” She sprinted to her, falling to her knees by her side. Everything was covered in mud, not only the marvelous coat, but also Lilia's iconic curls. None of that mattered in that moment. “ No no no. ” Vivi wasn't sure if Lilia was breathing, but she checked the pulse on her neck and thought she could sense a faint beat.

“ If you die on me, I promise I'll go wherever you are and drag you back just so I can kill you myself. ”

From the side of the road Vivi could hear her parents' calling her name. “ Over here! Mom help! ”

"With you, I never know," Lilia replied with a wry look. With this girl everything was always about the plan, and anything that argued with or got in the way of 'the plan' was something to be complained about or shouted at. Which usually meant arguing with Lilia. Gratitude was a refreshing, but unexpected, change of pace.

Raising her eyebrows slightly at the phrase 'new parents', Lilia passed no verbal comments but made a mental note on the change of status for the two agents. So much for Vivienne's refusal to admit they had any real, undeniable connection.

"Well, in that case you're welcome. Though I'm not sure how much standing I'd be doing with a wound like that," she added pointedly, unable to hide the subconscious wince at the dressing. For the briefest moment, Lilia Saw herself somewhere else, and for a flash of a second, she felt pain in her own side. The moment gone, Lilia did her best to shake it off, resuming her focus on Vivienne.

Touched, she gave her a warm smile. "Are you sure you want someone around who can usually See what you're up to?"

“ I'm going to keep surprising you. ” She smirked. “ Get ready. ” Even when 'the plan' ended with success and her being alive was an unexpected side effect she couldn't predict.. well there were multiple times that Lilia outright told Vivi that the agents won't agree to let her go or let her die, Vivi just waved it off. To her it seemed like no one could threaten her stubbornly pursued plan and when it turned out that Lilia was right.. Vivi was less than happy about it.

At her comment about standing too long, the girl shook her head with an understanding smile. “ I've just stopped by, Scully's in the car outside, but she won't come in, your incense is making her nauseous. ” She chuckled. “ We're going back to Washington tomorrow. ” At first Vivi asked nicely to visit Lilia after being discharged, but it had to go to 'I'll go anyway' for them to relent and take her, even for a short while.

“ You always know what I'm up to. ” She pointed out, unable to stop a teasing tint in her voice. “ And you know that's not what I mind, but you babbling around about it, especially to my new parents, this needs to stop. ” She tried to sound firm, but it all turned into smiles before Vivi even finished the sentence. “ I want you around, every day. ”

Vivi came over and gave Lilia a big hug. Her wound aching at the stretch when she lifted her arms, but that wasn't important. She just wanted to hug her friend. “ Thank you. Now you're gonna have to put up with me for the rest of my life. ”

"Implying that the colour I have usually isn't liked," Scully countered with a look. The reality was she had a lot more grey than she did when she first started dying her hair, and while she'd always liked red, getting the colour right at the salon was a bit harder now and her stylist had started playing around with the colours. Vivienne's throwaway comment was making her wonder if they should go back to the drawing board.

"Yes, I was actually assigned to the X Files to spy on Mulder at the time, to help shut his department down."

"But then she found out I was too cute," he cut in with amusement.

"What I found out was that there was science to be followed," Scully argued back, giving him a patient look before returning her gaze to Vivi. "I wasn't going to go in and just follow orders that went against the evidence. Our first case together was actually part of a larger story. It led to Mulder's abduction seven years later." A horrendous time and one that still filled Scully with a cold dread. Being pregnant, not knowing if she would see him again, only to find him dead, to bury him, and then for him to be back. It had been so many years now but part of her still hadn't processed it.

"What's wrong with staying like this is this isn't the age I am. Aside from the fact we don't know what side effects there might be, or medical complications, it isn't who I am anymore. The person I was when I looked like this isn't the person I am today." She knew Vivienne was perhaps too young to understand that, to see getting older as anything but a source of aching joints and wrinkles and more vitamins to take int morning, but while Mulder might jokingly complain about time's effects, she didn't think he'd feel comfortable being in his twenties again anymore than she did.

"I don't think a cave is making decisions about who it hits, Vivi," she replied, suspecting the girl was deliberately trying to goad her by bringing witchcraft into all of this. "Most likely it works like a geyser, a particular burst of energy at a specific time." But figuring out those parameters would require the witness statements.

"Charoite?" Scully repeated, walking back over to where Vivienne had found the deposits. "You mean the crystal?"

“ I didn't say I don't like your usual color, I said that this one is cool and I like it. ” She defended. It looked more natural, more orange than reddish red she was having recently.

“ Spy on him? ” Vivi frowned. She wasn't familiar with the bureau's internal.. policies and tricks, but it did seem like a shady place and this story only assured her in it. Now it made her wonder why two good hearted people like her parents wanted to have anything to do with such shady organization.

“ Are you saying he's not cute? ” Vivi countered with this playful tone and cracked a smile.

“ Is that what you're saying, Scully? ” Mulder played along, turning his head so now both of them were looking at her expectantly.

The thing that continuously made Vivi wonder was that how many years they've been working in the paranormal unit, how many cases they've solved and beings out of this world that they've met through these years, Scully still refused to accept that there were things unexplainable by science. It wasn't something Vivi was supposed to, or even be able to change. Just accept the way Scully was, perhaps that's why her relationship with Mulder never wavered, because he accepted that from the start.

“ Yes, the crystal. I've seen in a witch's medalion before, it represents transformation, change, connection to spirits. ” She began listing, speaking slowly in thought when it became obvious to her. “ Someone was performing rituals here. Someone who had the means to get this specific, rare crystal all the way from Siberia. ” She hummed, holding out shiny purple rock for them. “ And they forgot to clean up everything. ”

Part of her was tempted to let them turn in circles, because of course, it was their investigation. “ Do you want help on this case? ”

"Never been here before? What are you talking about? You live here!" Lilia protested, wondering what the hell was going on and deciding that if the girl kept this game up then she was going to revoke her promise not to Read her for answers.

But seeing the girl backing away, inching towards the door, Lilia began to realise that something was off. Blinded by worry and frustration, she hadn't Seen it, too absorbed by her own emotions, but now, when she focused, it was obvious. A clean slate, or the illusion of one anyway.

Using her magic, the slightest glow of gold shimmering around her fingertips, Lilia locked her door before Vivienne could run off, but thankfully curiosity seemed to get the better of her-- or perhaps the flicker of recognition?-- and pulled her back before she could even grab the door handle.

"You are Vivienne. You." Lilia insisted firmly, stepping forward and grabbing the girl's arms quickly, her hands wrapping tightly around the forearms as she looked at her, brown eyes searching her features. "Someone did this to you, you had a confrontation--" Or, more likely, went looking for trouble, Lilia thought to herself. "--and they did this. I don't know how but..." She frowned, trying to See further, to get the details, but it was as dense and formless as the magic around her whole aura.

"They've stolen your memories." Lilia realised aloud. "You don't have any, do you? Of yourself, your family, me, The Road...they've taken all of it."

“ I live here? with you? ” The second part came out with more surprise than the first. At least now she knew why the woman got upset the moment she saw her. Whatever happened last night must made her worry that Vivi hasn't returned. Taking a moment, she looked around the store, green eyes tracing the tarot table, the plants, posters, all of Lilia's props… nothing. She shook her head. “ None of this looks familiar. ”

Vivi hadn't expected the woman to come nearer, to close this distance between them and grab her arms. Jumping in shock, all the lights in the shop turned on, flickered and shut down with a loud zap of an electric surge. The biggest lightbulb in the room broke, its pieces falling to the floor.

“ What was that?! Did you do it? ” Her eyes were wide and hands started shaking until she took a step back away from Lilia, overwhelmed by all the revelations. The fact that the woman knew her so well while Vivi had no idea who she was didn't help either. There was this unsettling feeling being watched by this older woman, Vivi couldn't describe it, she was sure she didn't like it.

“ It's not possible that someone took my memories. ” She replied, refusing to consider it. Vivi ran her hand through her hair again, stopping at the back of her head one more time. There was a swelling that hurt when she touched it.

“ At sunrise I woke up on the field outside town, the road sign said it's this way to the center. ” So she came, looking for answers, just maybe this was too much answers all at once. If someone's taken them away, then she needed them back… just need to find out who and why. “ How do you know if someone took them? ” She asked as she watched Lilia with curiosity and a little bit of fear. “ Who are you? ”

"Pretty much," Scully admitted, hands on her hips as she looked around her, wondering just what part of this cave's chemistry had made this possible. Of all the cases Mulder had cited for this area, no witnesses had claimed anything about age reversal. It had all been perception, visions of their past and future. So what had changed? What new element had been introduced? "If I was to take a guess I'd say I'm the age I was when I first joined the X Files."

"Except you had a lot more pant suits back then," Mulder chimed in from where he was shuffling around.

"How is it that both of you have somehow managed to insult me?" Scully asked, looking between the two of them in challenge. Vivienne might have said she was beautiful, but she'd also thrown in that note about her hair colour. "Mulder, what are you doing? You can't seriously be trying to recreate this effect. What if it happens again but instead it advances your age??" They needed to find out what happened here and, more importantly, they needed to reverse it, but Scully wanted to do that away from the vicinity of the incident, at least until they knew what caused it.

"What do you mean I shouldn't have followed you?" Scully asked, turning to Vivienne, one eyebrow raised. "You shouldn't have come here on your own. I realise you have an interest in our work, but you have to know that what we investigate can be dangerous. What if I hadn't come here and whatever it was that flashed from that cave had hit you instead? We could be taking you home in a baby carrier."

At least in this scenario, Scully was still an adult. She just had a face that no longer matched her driver's license or her FBI badge.

"We need to take a closer look at those witness accounts."

“ Insult you? I wasn't trying to. I like this color. ” Vivi replied, then decided to not pursue this matter further. It wasn't important now, what they should focus on was how this was possible. “ So this is how you looked when you two first met? ” Raising her brows, she also observed Mulder's futile attempts of triggering the same flash. He's already walked around that spot ten times.

“ And you were standing…here? Come over. ” He gestured for her to approach.

Vivi knew by now that he wouldn't rest until he tested his theory and the only possibility that Mulder would leave the cave was to let him test it. So she came over and he held her arm.. nothing happened.

“ If you don't mind me asking, m.. ” it felt so odd to call this woman mom now, she didn't look like mom, “ do you really want to reverse it? What's wrong in staying young like this? ”

Initial willingness to stop discussing was keeping up until now. Vivi looked up at Scully and as much as it seemed a funny thought to be turned into a baby, she couldn't stay silent. “ Do you also realize that what you call work, I call daily life? ” She replied, her tone calm but firm. “ You don't need to remind me that this is dangerous, I was born into a family where unexplainable things happen regularly. And we always figured it out. Can you rule out that the reason I wasn't hit was that I'm a witch? ” She asked rhetorically, knowing that Scully didn't like the words like witch or magic being said while trying to explain things.

Ultimately they had to accept that there was nothing more in this cave, nothing to give them any hint and Scully's idea of going back to witnesses accounts was their best shot.

Walking up the steep climb to the exit, the moonlight was illuminating the rocky path up and Vivi's attention caught one different rock, shining a purple light. She picked it up and once out of the cave, turned on the flashlight in her phone to get a closer look. “ M - Scully? Mulder? Check this out, it looks like Charoite… but it's not possible. ” She said more to herself than to them, turning the crystal in her hand, it had sharp edges and white swirls patterns inside. “ They're only found in Siberia. ”

She could hear Mulder crying out in the distance, and knew he was no doubt careening through the woods with reckless abandon, tripping over leaves and branches just to get here. He was probably going to arrive more bruised than she felt.

Except she didn't feel bruised. She felt winded, yes, but otherwise...she felt like she'd taken a dozen vitamins and had about twenty hours of sleep.

"We're here, Mulder!" she called out, and again noticed how high her voice sounded. Clearing her throat again, she looked at Vivienne. "Bangs?" she repeated, frowning a little before lifting her hand to pull at the strands of hair around her face. Instinctively, she checked the back of her hair too and felt some very dated layers. "What the---"

She barely had time to finish her thought when she heard the sound of Mulder skidding into the cave. He was looking at her with the same shocked fixation as Vivienne.

"Okay, now you're both looking at me that way, why? What did it do to my hair?" she asked, as worried as she was puzzled.

Mulder's answer only made her feel worse.

"Twenty five years youn-- Mulder, that's impossible. That's--" Pausing in frustration, Scully checked her pockets for her phone and swiped to the front facing camera. "Oh my god..." She touched her own cheek, her own hair, her nose, her mouth, eventually lifting her gaze back to Mulder and Vivienne, looking between them in bewilderment. "This can't be real," she protested. "I look twelve, Mulder"

Vivienne had seen many strange transformations in her life. Witches turning into demons, mermaids, wendigos, ghosts, vampires, but they were all magical beings. Magic rarely directed it's power at mortals. It posed more questions than answers and the only good thing about this whole situation was that no one's gotten hurt.

“ Is this really how you looked in your twenties? ” Vivi looked between them both, this woman still looked like Scully, the similarities were obvious, but Vivi couldn't quite connect that she was the same one she knew. “ You're beautiful. And this shade of red suits you much more. ”

They still had no idea what triggered this change, how did the cave do it or why it chose to transform only Scully and leave Vivi untouched.

“ Where were you standing? ” Mulder began looking around the cave. His tone held anxiousness mixed with curiosity. “ Was it here? ” He found a spot with a lot of footsteps and distorted sand, the place the flash of light separated them.. he stood there, as if waiting for anything to happen, to no luck.

“ You done? ” Vivi quirked an eyebrow at him, only the disappointed look on his face held her back from making more fun of it.

Still stubbornly standing there, hands on his hips and expression far from content, Mulder wondered aloud. “ There's the opening in the roof of the cave, the moonlight could be shining inside. ”

“ That's werewolves. ” Vivi teased, throwing a look Scully's way, still unused to this new look. It didn't seem like she was about to turn into a murderous monster, thankfully. “ The age reversing rituals are complicated, they require careful preparation, sometimes even drinking a potion. One does not casually get younger, unless some other forces are at play here. ” She sighed. “ You really shouldn't have followed me. ”

Much to Lilia's surprise it hadn't taken long for a comfortable routine to develop between the two of them. It had been a long time since Lilia had lived with anyone, and her apartment wasn't exactly large-- it was barely enough to accommodate one person, let alone two-- and yet they never seemed to get in each other's way. In fact, it was only a short while before Lilia found herself struggling to remember how things had been when Vivienne hadn't lived with her.

So when she wasn't home in the evening, Lilia had gotten worried. Vivienne wasn't exactly the type to stay out late without their being a reason, or letting her know, and the silence in the room felt at odd's with Lilia's senses. She almost went to her scrying bowl, the obsidian one she kept in the back far away from prying customers' hands, but stopped herself. If Vivienne had an issue with being Read, she doubted she'd feel any better about being spied upon.

So Lilia had resorted to more human tactics; phoning her cell. But when that didn't work either, she had been forced to remind herself that she was her roommate and coven member, not her mother, and while Vivienne was young, she wasn't a kid, not technically. She could do things on her own, and the next day, when she decided to finally show her face, Lilia would give her a piece of her mind.

Having not slept particularly well, Lilia opened the shop a little later than usual, and was surprised when she heard the chimes above the door so quickly. Even more surprised when she saw who it was.

"Good morning?" Lilia repeated in indignation. "That's what you have to say? You're gone all night, you don't answer your cell, and you turn up with a 'good morning'? Where the hell were you? And you had better have a damn good reason, Vivienne, why you didn't call or leave a note."

The tarot shop was the first place that seemed opened at that time, one that, hopefully, would have a soul kind enough to tell her at least what town she was in. Not that knowing the name would help. Or perhaps a reading could reveal any past events and shed some light of what happened to her, her memory was one blank page. Vivi didn't know if she believed in these kind of things, but it wouldn't hurt to try, any advice would be very welcomed.

But when the woman got all worked up before she could say anything, Vivi realized there will be no help given here. The dollar bill went back into the pocket with a cellphone that ran out of battery and a pack of cigarettes. The other pocket had held just a pack of chewing gum to mask the smell.

One hand ran through the golden hair, stopping to scratch the back of her head. “ It must be some kind of misunderstanding, ” she started, already a few steps back than she was before, “ you're probably taking me for someone else, I was never here before. ” She added, truly convinced about the truth of these words.

Maybe she looked like someone the woman knew? Even if so, this wasn't the best way to get any information. For a moment the girl wondered if this Madame Calderu was talking like this to all of her customers. Whoever that person was, she doubted that 'Vivienne' would enjoy this kind of welcoming. Good thing it wasn't her. “ Looks like you're waiting for someone, I won't take up your time. ” She tried to smile, but it turned out rather confused and awkward.

Before she could turn to the door, the curiosity got the better of her. If she and that 'Vivienne' looked so alike, then maybe she could provide some answers? Perhaps finding her would also lead her to any trace of what happened.

It had been one of those instances where the work of the X Files had met with Vivienne's own experiences and skills, which meant that Scully had had her arm twisted on all sides by Mulder and Vivi both.

A cave in Oregon had been the subject of multiple claims and incidents, people claiming they had seen their lives jump back in time, others claiming they had seen the future, and then there had been the usual claims of aliens and demons and god only knew what else. It was this, more than anything, that had drawn their attention, but while Mulder had at least agreed to wait until they had spoken to witnesses, Scully had come back to the hotel to find Vivienne gone.

She's gone to the cave, she had said, looking to Mulder with worry before the pair had hurried to follow her. Splitting up to search through the two primary phenomena locations, Scully had been the one who had struck Vivienne gold, right in the mouth of one of the caves.

"You need to get out of here. We have no idea what this might be; there could be toxic gases, poisonous chemicals, any number of dangerous elements that could be the cause of--"

Scully hadn't had time to finish her argument as there was a sudden flash growing out of the heart of the cave. Instinctively, Scully had grabbed Vivienne in order to pull her out of the way but in the process had felt the impact of the energy hit her own back, sending her to the ground.

Coughing, feeling winded, she brushed herself off as she got to her feet.

"Are you okay?" she asked, and was surprised by the sound of her own voice. She cleared her throat, frowning a little. "Why are you staring at me like that?"

It's not like the company on the cases they were working on was optional. The back seat of the car was always occupied, whether she was sleeping with her head against the window and mouth opened, opening yet another pack of jellies (with Mulder stretching his hand back for some) or picking the songs, the rides never were or will be boring.

So when Vivi heard of their new case, it was obvious the three of them would be going to Oregon. She was glad her parents finally grew up and realized resistance was pointless. Vivi always tried to behave and not get in the way of their investigation.. okay that was a lie. She didn't go to Oregon to sit in the hotel.

One peek into that cave, nothing's bad gonna happen; she'll take a look around and be back, hopefully with some new info. It was better that she'd go there alone than with them, if anything was to happen. There had to be a source for all these events, anything to hint her into the proper direction. Vivi checked the stone walls of the cave for any hidden portals or symbols, now sitting down, she was searching the bottom of the cave, all for nothing, when she heard Scully's voice.

“ This isn't a lab, nothing's gonna happen until we figure out how to trigger it - ” she was getting up to her feet as Scully joined her when the flash of light turned them both temporarily blind. She could feel Scully's grip on her arm, she held her tight right back until in one second, she slipped away.

“ Mom! ” Vivi called out, she'd use her magic, protect them from all of this if she only saw anything. In a second, the light was gone and she spotted Scully just a short distance away. Immediately dashing forward, she heard someone running to them, didn't need to be psychic to know who it was.

“ Scullaaay! ”

The sight in front of her eyes was something neither of them could be prepared for. Scully wasn't hurt, she looked okay, she looked, “ You've got b-bangs.. ” Vivi stuttered, her mouth agape. It was Scully no doubts, right?

Right next to her stood Mulder, his expression matching hers, but there was more to it, a spark in his eyes, the familiarity of the person standing in front of him. “ Scully… you're 25 years younger. ” He said with obvious excitement. “ What happened here? ”

It's been some time now that Vivi had been living with Lilia, forming their own little coven after their journey on The Road had ended. She wouldn't say that aloud, but it was way better than she suspected it might be, learning a lot about each other and from each other. They've developed small habits of domestic life, respecting the other's space; Vivi usually left in the morning and came back after Lilia closed the store, knowing that after dark was the busiest time.

Except last night. She wasn't there when Lilia closed and didn't return the whole night, her phone answered with only silence to any attempt of contact.

Mornings were usually quiet. Bright sunlight lazily making it inside to the store, hitting the crystal ball on the stand by the window, scattering colorful light all around the walls.

A customer came in, quite early, perhaps it was a matter that couldn't wait. “ Good morning. ” A well known voice greeted Lilia. “ Are you open? I have… ” Her hand dived into a pocket and after a moment pulled out 5 dollars bill. At least that's what the price on the window said.

When the drinks were brought, she mirrored Mulder's behavior, taking a sip as soon as she got her milkshake. It only made her more hungry, Vivi was a person who sometimes forgot to eat, sometimes skipped meals simply because she was too invested in something else, but now when she knew they'll have food soon, she just couldn't wait.

Her stomach grumbled louder than she'd like it to be heard.. she didn't want him to feel like he had an advantage because of that.

“ And here I was thinking you're simply being altruistic. ”

She joked a little, a knowing smile painted on her face. “ But I do like you, you're not formal like the rest of these dudes at the police station who had sticks up their… anyway, I'll give you an advice. ” She moved the glass with her milkshake to the side and leaned forward slightly over the table. “ Don't dwell on this. Whoever did that - and I don't know who did - can clearly do it again. It would be a shame if it happened to you. ”
