Christmance
When did Christmas turn romantic?
a holiday of hearts and love,
where every kiss is accompanied
by snow falling from above?
It’s all about lights and garland
and meeting cute strangers in shops,
and steaming cups of coffee galore
and Christmas trees used as props.
Mistletoe in every doorway,
and wedding bells Christmas eve,
and every prince is looking for love
as if that can be believed.
Now it out-romances Valentines
if Hallmark is any gauge,
and every film is a romance novel
scripted right off of the page.
I don’t need diamonds or kisses
or a lover on Christmas morn,
my only wish is they don’t forget
it’s the day that Jesus was born.
