31 days, 1 alphabet of horror tropes → Z is for Zombie Apocalypse    → A zombie apocalypse is usually the result of some kind of widespread disease that turns 90% of the earth's population into walking corpses whose only intent is to feed and feed a lot. This area of horror is so enormous and spans many mediums of media that a full zombie viewing could take anywhere from days to weeks. Zombie films predate back to the 1930's, with the subgenre having become one of the most popular in horror today.

31 days, 1 alphabet of horror tropes → Y is for You Are Who You Eat    → A trope that describes any time a creature must consume a person periodically in order to pretend to be human. A common theme is that the being will need to absorb a human in order to prevent turning into something even worse than their original form. This trope can be directly related to cannibalism as well as being a subtrope of any theme where humans eat humans.

31 days, 1 alphabet of horror tropes → X is for X Equals Anything and Everything    → Since it's very difficult to find a trope that begins with the letter X and will encompass enough horror movies to make a full set, this particular one is a made up combination of various tropes: Beauty Equals Goodness (spot 1) describes the relationship between someone's physical appearance and how it directly relates to their moral character ("good" characters are often better looking than their antagonist counterparts). A character who has been annoying, ignorant or has committed violent acts will often try to redeem themselves and will die before succeeding, filling the Redemption Equals Death trope (spot 2). In order to meet the Authority Equals Asskicking trope (spot 3) a character must have a place of importance in society while being a physical force to be reckoned with. They will be a better fighter the higher up they are. And finally, the Insane Equals Violent trope (spots 4-6) require their characters to be incredibly violent as a result of their mental instability.

31 days, 1 alphabet of horror tropes → W is for White Mask of Doom    → Simply enough, this trope involves any mask that is colored white, used to hide the faces beneath. Relatively featureless, this trope also applies to any mask whose color is lighter than a human's natural skin tone.
