Halma Bravo - Voices
Halma Bravo - Scent of the Day
One of my favourite Halma Bravo tracks of all time is Scent of the Day. It was going to be on The Philanderer’s Key album [2009] but five minutes before release I pulled it and I can’t remember why. Initially I attempted to cover a song by Haruki, an experimental musician and sound artist from Belgium, real name Boris Snauwaert. I was impressed by his music on Birds And Other Machines [2006]. Lovely album! His label describes the music as amorphous, organic and free floating. One could add many more adjectives as the music doesn’t fit any label. For me Haruki’s music sounds simultaneously naïve and meditative and I really like that combination.
Anyway, my attempt to cover the song failed – as it had to - but something new came about. I can still hear elements of the original but it can’t be called a cover version.
Halma Bravo - Chameleon Girl
Chameleon Girl was written by Oswaldo Dolci and first recorded by SICK n.s.t. I did a cover version back in 2010 which nearly ended up on A Bridge Too Far. I always liked it but it spent the last four years hidden away in the dungeon of my PC, gathering moss. A little polish and it started to shine again like a diamond.
Listen to: Loft by Halma Bravo
A new album is coming. It’s called TANK. Out before the end of 2014.
