Twilight had seen how Champion used the Master Cycle as a weapon earlier, and the carnage of destroyed furniture provided him with a perfect ramp. He swerved to line himself up with an upturned throne, red-lining the engine as he bounced onto it and vaulted into the air, aiming directly for the creature in the middle of the room.
The Deity’s bulky adversary moved much more quickly than Twilight thought possible. It turned head, its face an iron mask with five rough-hewn holes in the faceplate in no proper anatomical position whatsoever. Time shouted something that Twilight couldn’t hear as something flashed behind the beast’s shoulder, as the massive thing swung for him.
The wrong end of a battle-axe collided with the body of the Master Cycle just behind Twilight’s legs. Oil and gasoline sprayed the massive monster and the floor around it. Twilight flew legs-over-head, head-over-handlebars, and narrowly missed being gored on the tall, curving horns that crowned the creature’s massive head.
There was an unsettling moment of weightlessness as he floated in the air, the room spinning around him, the faces of gods and goddesses immortalized in stained glass mocking him from the walls and the ceiling.
And then the floor rushed up to meet him, and Twilight blinked out.
