Presenting a film tour of a residence at The Galaxy (51 West 81st Street)

Join Brian Lewis and Kelly Giesen of Kelly G Design on a film tour of a pristine pied-à-terre at The Galaxy. This is Kelly's fifth renovation project at The Galaxy for herself. Plus, she has several clients in the building. It's safe to say that The Galaxy is Kelly G's world. Brian describes Kelly as "a magician with light, space and views" who maximizes on all of these elements in the 2-bedroom, 1-bath home. This is Kelly's first home at The Galaxy with direct views of Museum Park, so she highlighted this feature by incorporating mirrors on the backside of the apartment to reflect the treetops. Thanks for the clever design trick! The kitchen also stuns with a Calcutta marble backsplash and the crown jewel of the home: a white and chrome Big Chill gas stove. Kelly's design follows a theme of circular details that could be found in the foyer, on the entrance door and on panels throughout the home. "I should probably go through here and count the number of circles I put in," Kelly says. She also played with the floor plan by adding a "flex room" that currently serves as a formal dining space off of the kitchen and living room. Kelly describes this space as the "vision of the apartment." She transformed gorgeous windows found at a salvage yard in Maryland into a glass wall that now separates the two spaces. According to Brian, the master bedroom has the best view of Central Park. Kelly adds that she had the entrance door moved for direct sightlines to the treetops. The tour ends with a peek inside the bathroom, which Kelly claims is the "nicest [bathroom] I've ever done for myself or anyone else." They kick off their shoes to laze in the custom designed cast iron tub, which of course was positioned for park-facing views.

FILM TOUR OF 346 BOND STREET, 2B WITH KRIS SYLVESTER & JULIE LEEDES BIENSTOCK 

Halstead’s Kris Sylvester and Julie Leedes Bienstock take viewers on a film tour of 346 Bond Street, 2B in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. The  2-bedroom, 2-bath condo features soaring 16-foot ceilings and large picture windows in the living/dining space as well as a sleek, open kitchen. An upstairs loft easily transforms into a master suite complete with a full bathroom, walk-in closet and laundry room. The condo also has its own private roofdeck offering views of Brooklyn and beyond. 

This is not your standard property video tour. Along the way Kris and Julie pause for a bit of banter and comedic moments (e.g. a picture of Kris with a tiki drink may appear more than once). Here are a few of our favorite soundbites: 

1. The video opens on a brownstone-lined street in Carroll Gardens where Julie shares her criteria for a home’s desirable location. 1) Close to transportation 2) close to “stuff,” such as retail, restaurants and bars 3) close to supermarkets like the Whole Foods in Gowanus, which Julie says is “a-ma-zing.” Amazing enough for those who live on the Upper East Side or even Canada to make the trip, she adds. 

2. Julie shows off the kitchen and its spacious countertop perfect for entertaining. “Hey Julie may I have an espresso?,” Kris asks as the barista-approved machine comes into focus. “Absolutely!” One look at the stainless steel behemoth, and she deflects: “you do know I have no idea how to use this thing, right?” 

3. Kris introduces the second floor loft which duals as the master suite. “This is a real second floor,” Julie exclaims, “I can maybe even stand on this bed!” Kris talks her out of this idea. After all, this is a staged home with a blow-up mattress! 

4. “And can I get a drum roll please?” Julie announces (cue drum roll sound effect). She reveals the condo’s second walk-in closet, and adds, “I think I hear birds singing” (cue chirping birds sound effect). 

5. They end the tour on the private roofdeck with a final quirky exchange:

 “Hey Kris pass the cole slaw.” 

“Umm this is an empty table, Julie.” 

“Kris, we’re acting,” she says through a clenched jaw, “just go with it.”

FILM TOUR OF 62 MORIARITY DRIVE WITH JOHN ENGEL, SUSAN ENGEL & SPECIAL GUEST BRIAN LEWIS 

In 1966 Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” topped the Billboard charts, the Oscars aired in color for the first time and miniskirts took the fashion world by storm. During that time two architects of the New Canaan-based firm Harvard Five, Eliot Noyes and Bob Graf, helped define a new era of mid-century modernism. Together, they redesigned Mobil service stations bringing their sleek design style to the American masses. Graf also designed his home in 1966 located at 62 Moriarity Drive in Wilton. Today, the modernist structure has been completely restored to 21st century standards. Halstead’s John and Susan Engel are exclusively representing the sale.  

What is the best way to experience mid-century modernism in 2016? John and Susan lead a film tour of the home along with special guest Brian Lewis, Halstead’s 2015 top agent of the year. The film begins with Brian arriving to the hilltop home in a swanky Porsche and a book titled The Harvard Five in New Canaan in-hand. He muses on the private setting. The 2-acre property is surrounded by 150 acres of woods. The home itself is constructed with a glass curtain wall and natural elements such as stardust granite, Carpathian elm and rare rosewood. As Brian marvels up at the home, Susan appears across the pool in 60s-inspired attire. “62 Moriarity Drive has a lot of history, Brian,” she says. “So, if you’re going to fit in, you better get ready.” Brian’s button-down magically transforms into a posh, Don Draper-approved get-up. John meets them in the living room complete with a fireplace built into a stone wall and a dining area that seats up to 10. The entire space looks out to the lush greenery allowing ample natural light to stream in at all hours. The master suite is located below the living/dining area with direct access to the sleek pool. As they make themselves right at home on the patio, Brian points out: “this would be a popular destination for the Manhattan friends.”

FRIDAY FILM PREMIERE WITH THE ARIFFIN KROMER TEAM
