I relapsed into my Kingdom addiction and It's actually worming it's way into my heart and it's pissing me off. It's such a simple gameplay loop that's inherently unimpactful. It's odd for me to love something with literally 0 plot or tragedy or pain or even VIOLENCE in it whatsoever. You're a guy, build your kingdom. You have a 2D sidescroller space to work with. You can only make three types of buildings. Your only resource is money. There is no health bar. Losing the game just means having your shiny little hat knocked off and literally everything else is fine.
And yet. What the fuck? It's such a journey to play, and the game knows it. It's stupid self-conscious, in how beautifully it sets up it's backdrops, environments and soundtracks. It's gorgeous, and it's hardly detailed pixel art. You're always on your feet and it causes your brain to care IMMENSELY about what you've built. There is no result reward, the satisfaction and enjoyment just comes from BEING.
God, and the soundtracks tear me up. Why are they composed like life is a flawed and beautiful concept and despite our struggles and loss we cannot help but find beauty and fulfillment in what we make. I'm going crazy
anyway. Really had to get that out of my system. If you're wondering why I'm using the griffin in every single screenshot it's because I fucking love the griffin and everyone who calls him useless is tripping greed griffin sweep for life
