yo yiu made the hamilton staged in asl post right??? theres a video on the hamilton youtube channel where they performed cabinet battle #2 with people translating it to asl!!!
Really? I couldn’t find it when I did a search, so if anybody has a link I’d like to watch it. I know there are a lot of ASL Hamilton videos, some with more accurate translations than others. Was this a Ham4Ham or someone unaffiliated with the production?
For those craving more ASL Hamilton, check out @timetoputmythoughtsdown. This awesome person has done covers of the opening number, Lafayette’s rap, and most recently, “Burn”. Also I saw a video of Josh Castille performing “Satisfied” but I can’t find the link at this moment.
Out of curiosity, if an ASL staging of Hamilton were to happen, what would happen to the dancing and staging? Not familiar with Broadway so I'm not sure what standard ASL productions do to interpret dancing, but one of the things I love about Hamilton is the movement around the stage; how do you think that would change in an ASL staging?
I imagine the choreography would be similar to that of the Deaf West Spring Awakening production. Unfortunately, since I haven’t seen the Deaf West Spring Awakening production outside of GIFs, I can’t really tell you what that is. I imagine the ensemble doing most of their dancing while the principal characters are signing their solos, and incorporating the signs in the song into their hand and facial movements. ASL is very expressive and engages more than just the hands in conveying meaning. In a way, it is very like dance, if dance were its own highly-specific language.
