In today’s installment of The Universe Speaks™️ ✨🤘

I bowl as one of the younger members of a ladies’ bowling league with my mother-in-law, who is a fantastic bowler, even in her late 70s. She has kicked my ass every Monday morning, for the last three years (with a break for the pandemic, but still.) I am working my way to being a better bowler, and finally have an average that’s higher than my handicap.

In an effort to redeem myself, and to feel worthy enough to bowl with this badass on the same badass team, it’s been suggested that I level up to a heavier ball, now that I can actually hit something.

So while shopping online for a new ball, this one popped up randomly in my Google search. I’ve been bowling for a while now, and have never even heard of Hammer bowling balls. They are apparently under the corporate umbrella of Brunswick, after Brunswick bought Ebonite.

HAMMER. REDEMPTION.

It even comes in blue and yellow. 💙💛😳

I don’t even care that all that’s left is the 15-pounder, and all I can probably handle is a 12.

I’m going to learn to throw this motherfluffer. Hard.

OMG, this beautiful but exasperating Hammer Redemption bowling ball! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤪🎳😱

I am still learning its mystical ways, still getting used to fingertip grip, and because it’s heavier than my regular ball, still can’t quite control it as I should. My teammates groan when they see me pick it up, because I am all over place with it: could be a strike, could be a gutter ball, who the hell knows?

I will bust it out on Mondays only if we’re far ahead of our opponents, which is rare, but the Hammer has also helped me keep my handicap high (a silver lining!) I still need so much practice with it. 🙃💥💪🔨🙌 😅

The last time I practiced alone, exclusively with the Hammer and my favorite retro comic book graphics, this screen popped up. It cracked me up, and not just because my score sucked.

Oh, the irony.

This ball has a mind of its own: it loves to ride the edge, in the most hair-raising, nerve-wracking way, almost to the end of the lane until it suddenly curves to the left, at the very last moment, right in the pocket. It’s harrowing to watch, and positively thrilling when it strikes, and it strikes HARD.

It’s a beautiful thing when I trust it to work. Second guessing it inevitably puts it in the gutter.

I have to learn to just let it do its thing. I have to trust that it knows what it’s doing. But that’s easier said than done.

I have to learn to trust the Hammer... 🤔
