@hammeringheart : "Sonic! Where've you been off to this time, huh? Hm... somewhere cool and exciting, I bet!" She wants to hear alllll about it.
Getting back from one of his whirlwind adventures — be it an impromptu trip around the world, just for fun, or a hunt for stray badniks — is always nice; he’s far from the kid he once was, the kid he barely remembers, who’d have found the thought of having someplace to come back to stifling. Having somebody to return to felt much the same way for a long, long time — but it’s just nice, now.
Amy finding him is as predictable as anything; she’s always sweet, and admirably consistent in her care for the people she knows — he smirks as she skids to a stop before him, his head tilting. It’s almost unthinkable that, a few years prior, he might has flinched away or rolled his eyes, felt cornered by the idea of somebody loving him that much, wanting to know him that much — let alone somebody who just came out and TALKED ABOUT IT.
Now, her questions and her smile and Amy, herself, all feel as comforting as warm rain on a run.
“Everything I do is cool and exciting, Ames.” He’s just teasing, and they both know it — he laughs, stretches, bounces on his heels, and is still laughing when he comes out of his stretch. “Next time ya gotta come along, make sure you don’t miss out on anything!”
It’d maybe be easier, if Amy was just like him — scattered and summoned by the wind, never particularly tied to places or people. Then she could just come along — and isn’t that it’s own wonder, that he wants her along — for all his adventures. But —
He wouldn’t change her for anything. It’d be easier, sure, but way less fun.
“Howsabout this — I’m starved. Let’s get somethin’ t’eat and I’ll tell ya all the details. Then you can let me know what you’ve been up to.”
