Hamster Help??

Honestly thinking about getting a hamster but I can't seem to find any decent, trustworthy reources on care and necessities, and I've only found a few posts with actual dimensions on proper cages. I've written about four and a half pages on Do's and Don't's but it's just a cluttered mess and I'm getting mixed info. (Do this, it's good for them. Don't do that, it's bad for them! Feed them this, it's the most nutritional food. Don't feed them that, it's filler.) I know this is a fish blog primarily, but if anyone has any links to reliable resources or if you yourself have any info, it'd be greatly appreciated. I'm going to do the most research I can before even laying eyes on the fuzzballs at the store. I know it's not good to buy, but when you live in the middle of nowhere where the only animals anyone ever seems to have are dogs, cows and horses, you don't get the luxury of having good quality breeders nearby. 🙁

The photo on the left was taken literally three hours before the one on the right when I saw her eye. I tried to wipe off some of the blood but she wouldn't stay still. Has this ever happened to anyone's ham? I think she scratched herself or something because it doesn't look like any thing is wrong with her actual eye. Thanks in advance----

Hamster advice?

I was playing with my Lil Guy and noticed there was a small bald patch behind one of his ears and now I can't stop freaking out. He seems otherwise fine: eating, drinking, bright eyed, full glossy coat, happy to see me: he actually crawled onto my hand, I didn't even pick him up. Once out, he tested my fingers and palm to see if they were food (still no, just like every other time), ran around my arms, lap, chest, everywhere I'd let him, eager to explore, sniffed everything, in a good mood, but definitely had a bald spot. I'll take him to the vet tomorrow but I'm completely freaked out. Halp?

i have a question for hamster community!

recently i got a new hamster, and although i see him eating, he doesnt seem to be interested in fruit. food is important for taming and training, but so far hes turned down blueberries, bananas and pears. he sniffs them and turns away. they dont seem to upset him, he just doesnt really care. mache salad interested him a bit more so i left him some, but we'll see if he eats it.

this is the first dwarf hamster ive ever had (winter white), and all my syrians were food crazy. they were big eaters and hoarding food all the time. you could get them interested in literally anything. getting them up on my hand for a slice of an apple was easy peasy.

does anyone have any ideas for other treats i could offer him? im experimenting with various fruits and veggies, but he doesnt seem to react to them. :0 id rly appreciate help!

Dwarf hamster help!

I have two dwarf hamsters one is roughly 6-7 months old i love him dearly. My other is about 3 months old shes a little trouble maker.

But this is about my older boy. I’m in the process of getting both of them in bigger homes because i know the cages they are both in are NOT big enough. I take them both out frequently until i save enough for the 3 story cages i want to get both of them! But when i took my boy out today i noticed a red rough spot under his front arm! I do not have money to take him to the vet i’ve been looking around for home remedies or to even figure out what it is! for the sake of the hamster community i am not going to post photo of it, but if someone could please reach out and maybe take a look at the photos i can take it would mean a lot. i love my boy and am worried.

Okay so I'm currently in the middle of moving rooms, which gives me a little leeway for a hamster cage. Would 45x27x30" be a good start? I do believe so, just would like opinions. The largest I can go is about 50x30x30" but that will be cutting into walkway space. So would going just a bit smaller than that be okay?

Please help!! I found a hamster cage by a trash can. Had been left out in the rain. No food and no water. One dead hamster and one live hamster left inside. I put the live hamster into a bag I had with me, dumped everything in the cage but the food dish and water bottle in the trash, brought it and hamster home. Spent an hour scrubbing and disinfecting with boiling water, then lined with toilet paper and let the hamster back in. Cut up some raw carrot and peas and put in the food dish. Filled the cleaned water bottle. Ever since I put him back in, hamster's been desperately trying to escape. After all he survived, I'm afraid he's going to give himself a heart attack trying to get out of this cage. I don't have any other safe place to put him. Any hamster experts here have ideas? How can I help this little guy feel safe and have a chance to survive? Please reblog if you have followers who could help or help me find help.

Would any hamster experts be able to give some advice on how to make sure they are cared for? I know about making sure they have lots of bedding to tunnel and burrow in, about making sure it has lots of toys and a nice big wheel. (I’ve also been reading this wikihow and it seems to be full of useful info but I figure I should also verify here while I can) but is there anything else I should know about?

What are ideal temperatures to keep them in? My area can get rather cold at winter and hot in summer so what can I do to help them stay in ideal heat? And would they be okay if their cage in near a window, or would sunlight (especially in the summer) be too hot?

Are hamsters sensitive to dust or dirt? (My home tends to get rather dusty and dirty in hard to reach places like under furnature so id like to know if I should deep clean everything just Incase something’s in the air)

Are hamsters also sensitive to sound? I don’t usually use my tv speakers and have a set up to use headphones but the only place in my room is next to my tv so is that okay?

Also how long can they be left alone? If I have to leave for the day for work or something else will they be okay without me for some hours?
